Methods for Cleansing with Oil

  1. Select an oil suited to your skin type.
  2. Run yourself a nice steamy bath and get a clean wash cloth.
  3. Place eight to 10 drops in your palm and rub it carefully between the palms to warm the cleansing oil.
  4. Massage the oil thoroughly into the skin. You want to remove all traces of sebum and makeup impurities. Perform the act for no less than two minutes.
  5. Dip the wash cloth into the steamy water. Do not ring out water. Instead drape it across your face.

We’ve taken the liberty of breaking out simple routines based on age to help you get started.

- If you’re in your 20′s
Lucky you to still have a youthful face. However, that youth can also be a curse if you don’t take the time to think about anti-aging. Right now you should be wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to save yourself a lot of grief later one. Additionally, skip the tanning beds. Self tanners are getting better than ever and they won’t give you wrinkles.

- If you’re in your 30′s
While in your 30′s, water may quickly become your best friend. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the easiest ways to keep skin looking young. In addition, make sure that you’re using a daily moisturizer and taking plenty of vitamin D (at least 1,000 IUs per day).

- If you’re in your 40′s
Anti-aging in your 40′s isn’t just about healthy skin; it’s also about a healthy you. Be sure that you’re eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and cut back on the processed sugar. Regular exercise will also give you a healthy glow. If you haven’t started yet, then it’s time to use retinol to minimize fine lines around your eyes.

Healthy Squash Recipes

Healthy Squash RecipesSquash are a delicious, versatile vegetable that can be combined with an array of different ingredients to create tasty dishes. Zucchini, a summer squash, and butternut squash, a winter vegetable, are two squashes that are both healthy and very appetizing.

Baked Zucchini with Savory Sauce

Ingredients

Zucchini
• 3 zucchinis
• ½ cup of Panko breadcrumbs
• 1 cup of dried breadcrumbs
• ¼ cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
• ½ teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
• ½ teaspoon of salt
• 2 large eggs, beaten

Sauce
• 2 plum tomatoes, halved
• 2 small red peppers
• ½ cup of cubed French bread (sans crusts)
• 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar
• 1 ½ tablespoons of smoked almonds
• ¼ teaspoon of salt
• 1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
• ¼ teaspoon of Spanish paprika
• 1 garlic clove

Directions

Zucchini: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut each zucchini in half, and then cut each half into 8 wedges. In a large mixing bowl, combine both types of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, pepper and salt. Dip the zucchini wedges in the beaten eggs then dredge them in the breadcrumb mix. Place the pieces on a lightly greased baking sheet and cook for approximately 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve with the dipping sauce

Sauce: Preheat the broiler. Cut and seed the bell peppers and remove the membranes. Place the peppers (skin side up) and tomatoes on a baking sheet and broil for 10 minutes or until the outsides are blackened. Place the peppers and tomatoes in a plastic bag and let stand for approximately 15 minutes. Once the time is up, peel the peppers and tomatoes, and then chop them into tiny pieces, saving any liquid. Place the peppers, tomatoes and the rest of the sauce ingredients into a food processor and process until the mixture is smooth.

Butternut Squash Soup

Ingredients

• 1 ½ pounds of peeled, seeded and cubed butternut squash
• 3 cups of fat-free chicken broth
• 1 teaspoon of olive oil
• 1 clove of minced garlic
• 1 teaspoon of freshly chopped sage
• ½ cup of chopped onion
• ½ teaspoon of salt
• 1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Use a large stock pot to sauté the garlic, onion and olive oil for about 3 to 4 minutes. Then add the sage, salt, pepper, chicken broth and butternut squash. Bring the contents to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat. Simmer for approximately 20 minutes or until the butternut squash is tender. Puree half of the soup in a food processor, and then add back to the stockpot, or use a stick blender and puree until the soup is partially smooth, leaving some chunks. Garnish with fresh sage and serve warm or hot.

Breast Cancer Awareness MonthOnce again October is upon us and so is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While the disease affects both men and women, it remains the second leading cause of death among women. Because of this, it’s important to join together this month to discuss and work toward finding a cure. Whether someone close to you has suffered or you simply want to help end it, every single person is welcome to join this fight.

What is Breast Cancer?
Cancer can occur anywhere in the body. It happens when the DNA within a cell becomes damaged, mutating the once healthy host. This mutant then begins to replicate unchecked within the body, invading other, healthier parts. Luckily, with all of the research and work going into officially stopping it, breast cancer rates have been dropping since 1990. This is often attributed to better screening and early detection techniques.

How is it Diagnosed?
Nowadays, there a great many ways to check for breast cancer. The main method is known as a mammogram. This is a special type of x-ray that allows the doctor to find any suspicious tissue. Ultrasounds work the same way as those done for pregnant women, the only difference being it is performed on the breasts. The MRI is another scanning method and provides the most detailed visuals of the breast tissue. Other times, the doctor can remove a small bit of tissue to run a biopsy on. This test determines if the sampled tissue is cancerous or not.

What about Self-Exams?
For early detection, a self-examination method has been developed and can be done in three locations. While bathing, use the fingers to move around the breasts in a circular motion from the outside to the center. If you notice and lumps or hardening knots, have them checked out by a doctor. The exam can also be done in front of a mirror. Simply raise your arms over your head and then flex your chest muscles after putting your hands on your hips. Watch the breasts intently to see if there is any dimpling or puckering. Finally, lie down with a pillow under one shoulder. Like in the bath, use your fingers to check the tissue in a circular motion with different amounts of pressure. Note if there are any strange lumps or discharge from the nipples.

How to Achieve the Perfect Eyeliner

How to Achieve the Perfect EyelinerThe perfect eyeliner adds a beautiful, dramatic touch and draws attention up to your beautiful eyes. Getting the right techniques down can revolutionize your look for everyday and out on the town glamour.

Basic Topline

You should always start with the basics. A simple topline eyeliner look can be appropriate for everyday wear or dressed up for a night out with an intense lipstick shade or dramatic eye shadow. To get this look, first add a small amount of eyeshadow primer to the lid to keep the liner in place. Then press the outside corner of your eye to pull it tight and use the other hand to apply the liner along the upper lash line in small strokes. Use a brush or q-tip to clean up or even out any imperfections, ensuring that it will look even and natural.

Open Up Those Eyes

Women with smaller eyes, those looking to hide a lack of sleep, or those who want a wide eyed romantic look can achieve benefit from a white eyeliner. Adding white just under the brow line and smudging it lightly downward will open up the whole area and make you look more awake. Add a smudged line of white to the lower middle of your lids, just above your regular liner to make eyes look larger and rounder or add a little white to the lower inner rim of your eye to reflect a lighter color into your eye and cancel out any redness from a late night out.

Winged Eyeliner

For a more dramatic, night time look, consider winged eyeliner. To achieve this look, draw a short line sweeping up from the outer corner of each eye. Draw another line that is connected to the one you already drew that is sweeping gradually in toward your upper lash line. Then, fill in the space between these two lines and add a relatively thick top line along your lashes, narrowing as it approaches the inner corner. The larger the wing, the more dramatic the look.

Smokey Eyes

For a sexy, smokey eye look, start with an eyeshadow primer as your canvas. Then place your eyeliner along the upper lash line, getting thicker as you move toward the outer corner of the eye. Use a brush to spread the line outward and very slightly upward from the edge of the eye. This will create a soft second corner. Follow up with mascara to complete this dramatic look.

Eyeliner can completely change your look. Be sure to choose the right technique for the occasion.
