Rescuing your feet from killer heels

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

They look innocent enough, but those heels can wreak havoc on your feet!Everyone knows that cute shoes aren't always the comfiest pairs in your closet, but that shouldn't stop you from flaunting your fashion sense on your feet. Instead of allowing your shoes to do serious damage on your heels and toes, take care of those tootsies!

Glamour magazine's beauty blog recently pointed out a new line of designer band-aids from Cynthia Rowley. While these bandages are a heck of a lot cuter than those standard tan strips, you probably want to avoid having to use them by taking good care of your feet.

Pamper your soles with something like Get Fresh – Totally Soaked Softening Foot Gel, which will buff and moisturize to perfection. Consider using gel insoles when you're wearing high heels to soften the blow on the balls of your feet, and keep the back of your heels safe from rubbing by applying a moisturizer or a barrier, which you can find at drug stores.

If your feet do have a rough day, let them unwind with Alchimie Forever – 532 nm Antioxidant Relief For The Feet, which heals and protects your feet while soothing pain and discomfort.

Matching your nails to your accessories

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Shoes like this would look great with matching red nails!Recently, Tyra Banks was spotted promoting her new book, Modelland, wearing a sporty black, white and gray ensemble that featured pops of yellow accessories and, of course, yellow nails. Glamour magazine's beauty blog featured the look – asking readers what they thought of the matching style. The feedback was mostly positive!

While some people weren't into Banks' outfit, most agreed that matching your nails to your accessories is a total "Do." The key is to match the shades more or less perfectly, unless your ensemble has multiple shades of the same color.

For example, if you're planning to wear a bright red pair of patent leather pumps, a color like Nailtini – Mini Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer in Bloody Mary would pair gorgeously. An ultra-shiny top coat like Lippmann Collection – On A Clear Day Top Coat would make your nails match the patent leather perfectly.

If you wanted to be even more fierce, you could always consider adding a touch of red lipstick – as long as you keep the rest of your face neutral.

Glistening shimmer for fall

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Get subtle shimmer like Selena Gomez! If you want to spice up your fall makeup look a bit without trying something totally crazy, take a cue from Selena Gomez, whose look for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno was featured on Glamour magazine's beauty blog.

Gomez had her usual thick black eyeliner and dark lashes, but instead of a boring eyeshadow, she chose a shiny, dewy shimmer that made her eyes look a bit dressy without being overly showy.

To get the look yourself, use a black eyeliner to line your inner rims and your upper lash line. Use two coats of a super volumizing mascara, like Rilastil – Makeup Volumizing Mascara, to get seriously sexy fringe. Then, choose a gray shimmery cream, like Jane Iredale – Eye Gloss, to get a glistening finish. Just rub it on your eyelids and a bit past your creases for a gorgeous glowing effect.

Whether you're singing on national television like Gomez, or just prepping for a night out on the town, a surprising flash of glitter when you blink is sure to get you noticed.

Subtle hair makeovers you don’t have to stress over

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Need a quick new 'do without all the stress?Sometimes we all need a little pick-me-up when it comes to our hair. But instead of wondering whether you'd look good with a set of full bangs or a couple of chunky highlights, just take one of these ideas, inspired by Glamour magazine, to mind.

1. Girls with curly hair could get an instant update just by loosening the appearance of their curls. Instead of slaving over your tresses with a flat iron, just tweak your blow drying routine. Rub in a little Leonor Greyl – Gel a La Keratine (Alcohol-free styling gel), then use a paddle brush to straighten out the sides while you dry, then use a round brush for the front of your hair and at the crown. Your locks will be curvy, not curly.

2. Get your hair cut in stages. Rather than going from long layers to a short bob within a matter of 20 minutes, try out a shoulder-grazing style first. Then, once you're ready for the next step, have your stylist go all out.

3. Use a demi-permanent hair color if you're thinking about a dye job. It will wash out in four to eight weeks, depending on how much you shampoo. If you really love it, make it last with a shampoo like Leonor Greyl – Shampooing Reviviscence, which will rejuvenate your strands. Then go permanent!

Makeup for a more glamorous date night occasion

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Some dates call for a little extra glam! While an evening in with your man is always something to look forward to – especially if you have a good flick in mind and plenty of opportunities for snuggling – you know how much you appreciate a good night out.

Whether it's at a classy show in town or the trendiest local restaurant, you want to look like you tried a little harder to get ready for the occasion (even if you didn't). Next time you're gearing up for a more sophisticated date, consider this makeup look, as inspired by Glamour magazine.

Instead of your go-to lip gloss, try out a bold red lipstick. BABOR – Classic Lip Color has plenty of deep red shades to give your lips a touch of siren glam. Keep it relatively matte so you don't have to worry about smudging gloss on your champagne glass or on your man's cheek!

For the eyes, skip the harsh black eyeliner and go for something a little softer. A coppery shade would work perfectly, especially to complement the red shade on your lips. Jane Iredale – Cream to Powder Eye Liner looks soft and adds a hint of shimmer, which is just what you need for a memorable outing.

Guy-friendly manicures

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Be ready for the season by sporting NFL nails! If you've ever been frustrated by your guy's lack of interest in your nail color efforts, you may want to check out an idea from Cosmopolitan magazine: Football-inspired manicures.

The NFL recently launched a nail color line that has each team's specific colors available. While the colors are likely to match, the quality of the polish remains to be seen. You may want to consider getting a bit creative with your own collection of hues or shop for matches from collections like Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers.

Once you've picked out your favorite team's colors, it's time to have fun. You could wear just one shade, but it would be a lot more fun if you used two or even three. That way, you can experiment with different looks. Why not try a colorful French manicure or paint each color on alternating Nails? You could do a different color on each hand or make contrasting stripes. Cosmopolitan magazine suggests even marbling the colors together. Use a top coat like Lippmann Collection – Addicted To Speed Ultra Quick-Dry Top Coat to seal and protect your paint job. Then cheer for your team!

Milky, creamy nail colors to complement natural makeup

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Milky isn't just an adjective for dairy products. An all-natural, healthy look took over the Spring 2012 runway. Barely there makeup, nude nails and no-fuss hair complemented sporty, clean styles – making en vogue fashion much more accessible for everyone.

A simple face calls for a tinted moisturizer or soft powder concealer, like BABOR – Classic Perfect Finish Foundation. A little brown eyeliner and a touch of mascara are all you need for a pretty yet subtle visage.

For hair, try air-drying to give yourself a break from blow dryers. Work in a texturizing cream like Baxter of California – Clay Pomade and twist and scrunch every now and then for a messy, slept-in vibe.

Use a light, creamy nail polish that's either nude, white or slighty pink. Prep your nails by soaking your hands in warm water before applying moisturizer. Push back your cuticles and shape nails with a file before using a bit of nail polish to wipe nails clean. To avoid a streaky paint job, apply two or three light coats, letting each one dry before the next. Finish with a top coat for a shiny effect or use a matte finish.

You'll look clean and fresh by wearing a sporty outfit with these hair and makeup tips. No one will have to know how easy it was!

Easy and effective body scrubs

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Sugar scrubs will leave your skin smoother than you thought possible! There’s nothing like a bit of exfoliation to brighten up a dull complexion. Not only does a body scrub work to get rid of dead, dry skin cells – it moisturizes too. If you use it a couple times a week, you’ll be on your way to having the smoothest body ever in no time.

Here’s an easy DIY recipe you can make at home with ingredients you probably already have, inspired by Glamour magazine.ap. Mix together regular or raw sugar with a bit of oil (vegetable, safflower or coconut will do) until it has a paste-like texture. Add a few drops of essential oil if you want to and use to scrub off in the shower.

For an even easier way to slough off dead cells, try something like Bioelements – Cactus Cloth, which is made of natural cactus fibers and is meant to smooth the skin and increase circulation.

If you’re worried about a scrub for aging skin, there are plenty of options with anti-aging ingredients, like PETER THOMAS ROTH – Anti-Aging Buffing Beads. It uses aloe vera, jojoba beads, lemon and other natural ingredients to rejuvenate your skin. Your skin will look radiant!

How to play up Asian eyes

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

No more worrying about which eye makeup trends will work for you! Many Asian women get frustrated with eye makeup, which doesn’t always play up gorgeous eye shapes and might not show when your eye is open. Fortunately, there are tons of tricks, techniques and looks that you can use to pull off fabulous eye makeup that will enhance your unique features.

Techniques to try

1. Use foundation or a makeup primer on your eyelids. This will make sure your shadow stays on and lasts all day.

2. Eyes will look bigger if you layer your eyeshadow. Use darker colors close to your lash lines and lighter colors as you go upward on your lids. This gradual change of tone will give the illusion of depth.

3. When using an eyeliner (like Sothys – Waterproof Soft Eye Pencil, which comes with a smudge tool) to define bottom lash lines, smudge it out. This will prevent your eyes from looking smaller and bring your outer edges forward, creating a larger look.

4. Full brows and lips will keep your eye makeup looking natural. Use an eyebrow pencil to shade in sparse areas and a plumping gloss to amp up your pout.

5. If you have monolids, there’s no need to fake a crease with eyeshadow if you tailor your look to work for you.

6. Do your eye makeup before the rest of your face. This will prevent any loose shadow or mascara clumps from falling onto your cheeks as you’re applying.

7. If you’re going with false eyelashes, use individual lashes for a more natural look that will make your eyes appear wider.

Looks to try

1. Everyday glamour. This style works great if you don’t want a heavy makeup look or are just starting to experiment with eye makeup. To create defined eyes, sweep on a cool brown or plum eyeshadow, like one from Pixi – Eye Beauty Kit, along your top and lower lash lines. Go up your lid a little bit so it will show. Use a dark brown liner on your top lash lines, curl your lashes and apply a lengthening mascara. Chic and easy!

2. Modern smokey eye. This edgy look works great on all skin tones and even on close-set eyes. Use a warm brown eyeshadow all over your lids and slightly above the creases. Extend the color straight out beyond the outer corners if your eyes are closely set. Do the same with your lower lash lines, then apply dark brown or black eyeshadow over the top and bottom lash lines, without extending outward. Go over the top of the lash line with a black eyeliner, curl lashes and use plenty of lengthening mascara. Pair with pink lips for a cute touch.

3. Glowing goddess. An allover glow will give fair-skinned ladies a touch of radiance. Use a shimmery light gold shadow three-quarters of the way up your lids as well as on your inner corners and lower lash line. Use an olive green eyeshadow along the upper lash lines, making it thicker as you get to the outer corners. Go over the top lash line with a black eyeliner, then line the inner rims of your bottom lids. Curl your lashes and top with mascara for a fresh-faced look.

4. Bronzed babe. This, warm, monochromatic look compliments a tanned skin tone. Use a nude eyeshadow all over your lid, then apply a cool brown shadow from your lash lines to just above your creases. Sweep a dark brown or black eyeliner over your upper lash line and on your lower inner rims. Curl your lashes and use a brown or black mascara. Finish with a bit of bronzer and an apricot gloss.

How to stop biting your nails

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Keep your nails pretty and primped to avoid biting them!Biting your nails isn't attractive. Not only is it potentially dangerous, as your nails harbor tons of bacteria, but it ruins your nail beds and makes your hands look exactly like they've been gnawed on all day. Having healthier nails can make you feel more confident about yourself, so why not try to kick the habit? Here's how to go about doing it, according to Glamour magazine.

If you haven't already tried a no-bite product, invest in one. These go on your nails and taste awful, so you won't want to have your fingertips anywhere near your mouth. Tabasco sauce also works if you dip each nail in it (that is, of course, unless you like the taste).

If you regularly bite your nails to fix breaks or rough spots, carry a nail file in your purse so you won't have to rely on your teeth. Use a product like Talika – Nail Regenerator Serum to bring your dead nails back to life and get them looking normal again.

That being said, it helps to invest in a good nail polish that will make your nails look great and prevent you from biting them. Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers have plenty of colors to choose from for DIY manicures. Keep your nails painted and pretty so you won't be tempted to ruin them.
