Stop hating your hair

Monday, October 31st, 2011

You should have no reasons to hate your hair!If you wake up in the morning dreading how your hair is going to behave for the rest of the day, you're not alone. According to Glamour magazine's beauty blog, Dove recently conducted a survey which showed that only about 7 percent of women truly love their hair. That means 93 percent of ladies aren't happy with their tresses, which is unfortunate because there are so many ways to make your hair cooperate and get along with your style.

The survey also found that 58 percent of women used three or more styling products every day in order to tame their unpredictable hair. While it's true that there are numerous products out there that can help make your locks manageable, you probably don't need that many. As long as you have a great shampoo and conditioner, the task of styling your hair should be easy.

L`Occitane – Aromachologie Repairing Shampoo (10.1 oz.) works to make your hair smooth and shiny, so you don't have to worry about anti-frizz products or heat tools. Follow it up with L`Occitane – Milk (Shea Butter) Ultra Rich Conditioner, which will nourish and protect your hair from damage. After a couple of days, you may be surprised to start loving your hair again!

Don’t gift your guy a set of nail polishes for men

Friday, October 28th, 2011

He doesn't need nail polish, but he needs a good shave! It's totally fine for a guy to give his nails a bit of attention every now and then. After all, it's not attractive to have scraggly nails and torn-up cuticles, especially for occasions where everything else looks clean and fresh. However, Allure magazine recently posted news of a nail polish line for men called EvolutionMan Nail Varnish and Nail Paint.

The line features a base coat, top coat, sparkly top coat and three metallic shades of purple, gray and gunmetal. It's nice that some guys care this much about their nails, but chances are your guy isn't one of them. Instead of getting him a set of nail polishes that he likely wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pamper him with a gift set.

Anthony Logistics – FACE Kit includes a cleanser, moisturizer, clay mask and a scrub – all of which can be used at home without his friends ever knowing what made his face look so great. eShave – Start Up Kit is another great option that will help him get the closest shave ever. It comes with a brush, pre-shave oil, shave cream and after shave cream. He'll appreciate the thought!

Go natural and join the thick brow trend

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Go natural and join the thick brow trendAfter years of plucking, waxing and tweezing, ladies can finally take a break and let their eyebrows grow in. Thick brows have been spotted everywhere this season, from the runway to magazine fashion spreads. Letting hair grow in is easy enough, but in order to polish off the look, ladies should add the following beauty tools to their collections:

The pencil. The Too Faced Brownie Eye Brow Pencil helps women with thinner brows fill them out and give them a bit of definition. Ladies who naturally have thick eyebrows will still benefit from purchasing an eyebrow pencil because it will allow them to sculpt the specific shape that flatters their face.

The comb. The Jane Iredale PureBrow Fix and Mascara comes with a comb designed for use on eyebrows as well as a brush for use on the lashes. This product helps ladies hold their eyebrows in place so stray hairs don't fall out of line.

This budding trend is perfect for women who naturally have thick brows. If you are one of them, this is truly your time to be free and shine in the spotlight.

Five beauty mistakes that make you look older

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Keep mascara on your top lashes only!If you want to look younger, the trick is to avoid makeup blunders that make you look older. Not only should you shy away from out-of-date makeup and trends, but you should know what kinds of mistakes are guaranteed to ruin your look. Here are a few examples of what not to do, according to Allure magazine.

1. Heavy makeup. Instead of caking on the foundation, choose a tinted moisturizer like Paula Dorf – Face Tint with SPF 15 or a sheer foundation that lets your face show through.

2. Light foundation. If your shade is too light, fine lines and wrinkles will be highlighted. Choose a warmer shade with a light-reflecting formula that will make you look glowing.

3. Too much powder. Face powder works great to get rid of shine, but you shouldn't apply it in places other than your T-zone. It can accentuate fine lines and make skin look dry.

4. Feathering lipstick. Your natural lip line fades as you age, which means your lipstick is more likely to wander into your creases. Use a lip liner like Jane Iredale – Lip Pencil in a shade that's close to your natural lip color before using any lipstick so it stays put.

5. Using mascara on the lower lashes. This can make your dark circles appear darker and any crow's feet look more prominent. Just use it on your upper lashes.

Candy corn nails in honor of Halloween

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Use these treats as your inspiration!Funky nails are everywhere lately, so if you're looking to spruce up your manicure this Halloween season, why not go with a candy corn-inspired polish job?

To begin, you'll need a base coat, like Lippmann Collection – Rehydrating Base Coat With Aloe Vera, which will add tons of moisture to cracked, brittle or peeling nails. You'll have prettier digits once you take it off!

Next, you'll need three different polishes: an orange, yellow and white. Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers, Nailtini – Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer and POP Beauty – Nail Glam should have plenty of shades to choose from. Use the orange color first and paint two thin coats. Once they're dry, use stickers to separate sections on the top and bottom of the nail. Paint the top part near your cuticle white, then paint the tips yellow.

Let the polish dry before you take the stickers off, then finish off with a strong top coat that will keep your fun nails chip-free until Halloween.

Get a flirty fishtail this weekend

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

The standard braid just doesn't always cut it!If you have longer hair and haven't tried a fishtail braid yet, there are really no excuses left for you. It's a simple, quick and gorgeous way to tame your hair no matter what state it's in, and the style is trendy to boot. It's the perfect accompaniment to your weekend ensemble.

Whether your hair is dry or wet, a fishtail is simple to make. Tons of volume and texture can help out a lot, so use plenty of Jack Black – Body Building Hair Gel before you begin. Pull your hair over to the side opposite your part, then separate into two sections. All you have to do now is take a piece from the outside of one side and bring it over to the other. So, take a piece from the outside of the left and bring it over to the right, then pull it tight and do the same with an outer piece on the right side.

Make sure to keep pulling it tight as you go, then secure the ends with an elastic. It's okay if you have layers and there are pieces sticking out, or if there are a few bumps. It's supposed to look slightly messy. Finish off with Leonor Greyl – Voluforme (Setting spray for volumn & hold), then flaunt your look for the rest of the day!

Repairing damaged, overstyled hair

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Repairing damaged, overstyled hairAlmost every woman has been guilty of applying too much heat on her hair from time to time. Those with natural curls may decide to go with the straight look for an extended period of time, while those with finer locks may want to add more volume with a few bouncy waves. These transformations require a regimen defined by heat – featuring blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons.

All of this heat can damage the hair, leaving it dry and lifeless. To revitalize overworked strands, ladies should look for hair care products stocked full of moisturizing nutrients. Start off using the Dermalogica Shine Therapy Shampoo, which relies on natural ingredients like lavender extract and rosemary oil to restore shine and body to hair. Beta hydroxy citric acid starts the renewal process directly at the scalp and can reduce dandruff.

Finish off your hair routine with the L'Occitane Milk (Shea Butter) Ultra Rich Conditioner. This formula not only repairs damage but adds a layer of protection from any future heat treatments as well as environmental factors, such as the sun and the cold. The active ingredients detangle thick locks while coating capillary fibers.

How to get a sexy blowout

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

The perfect blowout is easy to achieve! There's nothing better than walking down the street knowing you have gorgeous hair, but it's not usually something you can just wake up to. That's why it's essential to find a way to get super luxurious hair without having to spend tons of time on it, because you probably have better things to do. Glamour magazine's beauty blog featured tips for a blowout inspired by Amanda Seyfried's stylist, so you know it's good. Here's the how-to.

Towel dry your hair after showering and use a volumizing product like Leonor Greyl – Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice (Volumizing Styling Mousse), concentrating on the roots. Apply an anti-frizz cream, like Jack Black – Sleek Finish Texture Cream to the ends of your hair, then blow dry it using a round brush. It helps to have the blow dryer pointing down the shaft of your hair, which will keep it smooth.

Set your hair in large Velco rollers, rolling them away from your face except for the front sides, which should be rolled under. Once it's cooled, unroll the curlers and gently brush out with a paddle brush. Tease your crown for a bit of added height, then use a light hairspray, like Leonor Greyl – Laque Souple Gentle Hold Hair Spray (4 oz.), to make it last. Easy!

Louis Vuitton will launch new fragrance

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

No one knows what the new scent will smell like!Rumors have been surfacing everywhere lately saying that iconic luggage maker and fashion icon Louis Vuitton is working on a signature fragrance. Glamour magazine's beauty blog found that Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, master perfumer, is in charge of the project.

Belletrud helped designers like Stella McCartney, Dior and Lancome develop their branded scents, so it's no wonder he's in on Vuitton's. No one is quite sure what the new fragrance will smell like, but sources have said that the company has been investigating super rare, practically extinct flowers in France that could eventually become elements.

If you can't wait for the rumored scent to come out, you may want to invest in the signature scent of another brand, like BURBERRY – Classic For Women Eau de Parfum Spray (1.7 oz.). The fresh floral with an Asian influence will be sure to spark your interest. ISSEY MIYAKE – L'Eau d'Issey For Women Gift Set (EDT+BL) was also created with the help of Belletrud, featuring a woody floral scent with a hint of musk. Try it before the new scent comes out!
