Tips for keeping your tresses super shiny

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Keep your hair super healthy! It doesn't matter if your hair is long and straight or if you're currently sporting a bunch of curlicues on your head – chances are you care about the condition of your tresses. Unfortunately, factors such as the weather and even pollution can strain your mane and cause it to look especially dry and unhealthy.

Before you throw your arms up in exasperation, give yourself a buzz cut and book it to the nearest wig store, you may want to take note – every woman can have healthy, luxurious hair! With a few simple steps a celebrity-worthy hairstyle will be yours for the taking.

First, try your best to use the right shampoo. L'Occitane – Shea Butter Ultra Rich Shampoo and L'Occitane – Aromachologie Repairing Shampoo, both of which are jam-packed with hair healing ingredients, are two wonderful options.

Additionally, don't hesitate to take advantage of a deep conditioning treatment the next time you're at the salon. Many professional establishments come equipped with super powerful products that can do wonders for your appearance.

Finally, don't neglect those split ends! Trimming your tresses will allow them to remain in tip-top condition and foster the growth of gorgeous, healthy locks.

How to make your beauty products more appealing

Give your beauty routine a bit more glamour! There's nothing sexy about swiping on lipstick while you're in line at the bank or checking your eyeshadow in the rear view mirror. Remember those days when women used to take the time to put on their face in the morning while sitting down at a vanity? The seemed a lot more in love with their makeup. If you want the same thing, here are a couple of ideas, courtesy of Allure magazine.

Set yourself up with your very own vanity. Even if it's just a decorative mirror above a shelf in your bedroom, it will be a special place for you to go through your makeup routine. Add a few pretty elements, like flowers or a couple of vintage pictures, then make sure your beauty products are all displayed attractively and within reach.

A kit like POP Beauty – Hello Gorgeous will ensure your stuff is all organized and in one place, while POP Beauty – Sara`s Beauty Cabinet is another cute idea that will look adorable on your vanity. Pull up a comfy chair in the morning and take a bit more time to get ready. You'll feel a lot better about the process.

Makeup tricks to make you look younger than you really are

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Look younger no matter what your age!No matter what your age may be, chances are you wouldn't mind looking a year or two younger. If that's the case, here are a couple of ways you can make sure that your makeup takes off a few years, courtesy of Allure magazine.

1. Don't go overboard. Using too much makeup can make you appear older – especially with products like foundation and concealer. Instead of slathering it on, only use the product where you need it. You want your skin to be able to shine through, not be totally covered. Try Bioelements – Sheer Makeup with Calcium and Lipoic Acid.

2. Avoid using powders. These can settle into your fine lines, making them appear more prominent. Use liquid or cream makeup instead, and opt for products with a hint of illumination, like Nuxe – Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil Golden Shimmer (100 ml).

3. Make your eyes appear bigger and brighter by curling your lashes and using a highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes and underneath your eyebrows. A very dark mascara will make the whites of your eyes look whiter, so choose a deep black.

Pull off a casually contrasting lip and cheek

Kate Bosworth knows how to mix it up!Sometimes your regular makeup routine just doesn't cut it. Whether you have a special occasion planned for the day or you just feel like mixing it up by trying something new, there's a cute, easy way to update your look and take a small risk with your daily makeup. Take a cue from Kate Bosworth, who Glamour magazine's beauty blog featured for having a rosy lipstick paired with an apricot blush.

Pink lipsticks are usually worn with pinkish blush, which is nice but can get a little too matchy-matchy. The subtle contrast created with the apricot cheeks is a bit unexpected and still totally wearable for day.

Try Paula Dorf – Lip Color in Sky Pink on your lips, and be sure to put on two layers, blotting in between. This will give you long-lasting color that will look fully pigmented and shiny. Pair it with a blush like GloMinerals – gloBlush in Spice Berry. Be sure to apply to the apples of your cheeks and blend the color toward your temples. Looks pretty fresh, doesn't it?

Did you ever think mustache nails would be cool?

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Mustache nails? Why not!The phrase "mustache nails" seems pretty weird, right? However, they're becoming trendy this November as a result of "Movember," as guys everywhere are sporting mustaches to raise awareness for prostate cancer and other men's health issues. You may also be familiar with "No Shave November," which your guy may or may not be participating in.

Nevertheless, if you want to support Movember in your own way, you can't exactly grow bushy facial hair. You can, however, create cute little mustaches on your manicure. Here's the how-to from Glamour magazine.

Use a pale shade of pink from Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers to paint two coats on your nails. Then, use a toothpick or a small detail brush, like Youngblood – Travel Lip Brush to make two black dots of polish touching each other in the middle of your nails, close to the bottom. Create two smaller dots on either side of these, then use two curved lines to connect them. Fill in the sides, then coat with a top coat. Cuter than you thought, huh?

A foolproof smokey eye no one can resist

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Smokey eyes are easier than you think! If you've never had the guts to try pulling off a smokey eye makeup look, you're truly missing out. It's one of the sexiest ways you can make your stare smoldering and super defined, so you're bound to get tons of attention. Here's a foolproof way to apply it for yourself, courtesy of Glamour magazine's beauty blog.

First off, you should know that a smokey eye should be worn with neutral makeup everywhere else. If you're going out at night, you may be able to get away with a bolder lip, but otherwise keep your face understated.

Start out by using a black eyeliner pencil on your bottom and top inner rims, like GloMinerals – gloPrecision Eye Pencil. You can use a bit to line your upper lash line, but you don't really need to if you already have thick lashes. Next, you'll need a gray eyeshadow, like BABOR – Eye Shadow in Grey. Use it all the way around your eyes, up to the creases. Finally, choose a copper shadow to go a bit past the crease and just below your brows.

Top your lashes off with mascara, use a bit of highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes, then get ready to strut your stuff.

The buzz about ombre nails

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

You want similar hues for an ombre manicure! If you've been keeping up-to-date on the fashion and beauty world lately, you've probably heard the word "ombre" about a million times. It's referring to that gradual color-change that you often see on celebrity hair and nails. Think Rachel Bilson's grown-out highlights.

Ombre nails are super easy to achieve and the best way to rock them is by painting each of your five fingernails a different shade of the same color. While you could stock up on five similar shades of Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers, that might not be a part of your budget.

If you're willing to get a little intense about your manicure, you may want to consider mixing up your own shades using a white polish, like Sothys – Nail Enamel in Blanc douceur. Just get a plastic tupperware lid and use a small paintbrush to swirl together drops of your favorite shade of polish with the white. Use more white in each mix so you have a gradual lightening effect. Seal them all with a topcoat once you've painted them on, and you'll have a sweet manicure that will make your friends totally jealous.

One important lipstick step you may be missing

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Are you blotting your lips?Take a second to think about your lipstick application. More than likely, you're the type of woman who takes out a tube, swipes it on and hopes it lasts. Since you missed an important step there, you shouldn't be surprised when it doesn't stay on throughout the day.

According to Allure magazine, blotting your lips after the first application is essential because it creates a base for the second coat to stick to. Just swipe on something like Jane Iredale – PureMoist LipColour SPF 18, then use a tissue to blot it. Swipe it on again to create the second coat, which will add both shine and coverage.

When you're applying the lipstick, you want to start in the middle of your mouth and blend it out to the corners. It'll look silly if you apply lipstick directly to the corners. Jane Iredale – Retractable Lip Brush can help you with the blending.

You'll also want to apply bolder shades of lipstick to just your bottom lip, then pressing it against your top lip to distribute the color. This will prevent you from overdoing it.
