Scarlett Johansson rocks a new wrist tattoo

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Scarlett Johansson has new ink to brag about!Recently, Scarlett Johansson's been seen out and about in New York City sporting a new wrist tattoo that defines her love of the city. According to Glamour Magazine's beauty blog, the tattoo is of a chain link bracelet on her wrist, with a charm that says "I heart NY." This isn't the first piece of ink for the starlet, but it might be one of the most noticeable.

If you're into tattoos, you may have noticed that sometimes an event or occasion calls for a different look. Whether you're a bride-to-be who's getting married soon or you have a serious job interview coming up, you may find that covering up your tattoo is to your best benefit. But how exactly do you go about camouflaging something that's normally meant to be in the spotlight?

Luckily, Dermablend Cosmetics has you covered – literally! Use Dermablend – Leg and Body Tattoo Primer first to conceal the ink and set up a smudge-proof surface, then apply Dermablend – Leg and Body Cover Creme SPF 15 for a smooth and natural finish. To make sure the concealer does its job all day or night, finish up with a setting powder. No one will ever know what's underneath!

Have you tried orange lipstick yet?

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Orange lips are huge these days!By now, you probably know that Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year for 2012. That’s probably why so many gals have been walking the streets with orange lips, manis and eye makeup. While it takes a certain degree of boldness to put on a color like this, it’s definitely a great way to ensure that all the attention’s on you.

Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Morrison and Busy Philipps have all been embracing the orange pout, according to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog. Paired with subtle eyes and cheeks, it’s a great way to rock the trendiest shade in fashion without going overboard.

When you’re wearing an orangey shade of Youngblood – Lipstick, it’s important to wear lip liner underneath to prevent the color from migrating to the area outside of your lip line – otherwise you might end up looking like a little kid who’s been eating an orange popsicle. Jane Iredale – Lip Pencil has you covered. Just pick a shade that’s close to either the lipstick color or the natural shade of your lips. Then go wild!

Frizz-free hairstyles for humid weather

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Not every style will be ruined by humidity! Now that spring is here, the weather might feel a bit humid in your area. With warm temperatures and more rain, your go-to hairstyle might quickly turn into a frizzy disaster. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways you can style that mane so it won’t go nuts on you. Here are a few suggestions.

1. A ponytail. Sounds simple and maybe a bit boring, but you can actually do a lot with a ponytail. Wrap a strand around the elastic, then curl the ends for a cute retro vibe. Consider putting a flower or a ribbon in there as well.

2. A sock bun. Just cut the toe off of a sock, then use it to transform a ponytail into a chic bun. The ends of your ponytail should wrap around the rolled-up sock as you go toward your head.

3. A braid. A simple fishtail braid is trendy when you pull it to one side. Just part your hair on the side, then pull it to the opposite shoulder and braid as usual.

4. Grab a headband. If your hair is short, just toss a headband on and tease the hair at the crown of your head for a little extra volume.

Before you try any of these styles, use a shampoo like Dermalogica – Shine Therapy Shampoo, which will sleek-ify your strands. Then follow up with Hamadi – Shea Pomade to add a bit of texture.

An easy trick for fuller lips in an instant

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

The trick to fuller lips is to highlight the upper outline! If your lips are on the thin side, you’ve probably tried all kinds of methods to make your pout look fuller. From plumping lip gloss to bold shades of lipstick, you might have given up all hope of volumizing your lips without some kind of unnatural filler. However, The Beauty Department has a great trick to make your lips look bigger in an instant, and it’s not hard to master!

According to the source, all you’ll need is a highlighting lip liner pencil like Too Faced – Luster Liner Pearl Effects Lip Pencil in Tahitian or Akoya, as well as your favorite shade of BABOR – Filling Lip Color.

The idea here is that you’ll use the highlighter to brighten up the top line of your lips, which will bring them forward on your face and make them look larger. Simply use the pencil to trace along the upper line of your lips, including the cupid’s bow. Stretch it from one corner to the other. You should also use the pencil to highlight your philtrum (the two grooves stretching from your nose to the upper points of your lip).

Use your finger to blend the lines so they look natural but aren’t completely faded, then apply your lipstick as usual. Nice, huh?

Revamping the look of an old lipstick

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Creating your own lipstick shades is easier than you think!Chances are, you don’t always use every last smidgen of lipstick left in the tube. If you have several unfinished lipsticks in your possession that you’re hesitant to throw away, you might be interested in mixing up your own custom colors that will give new life to those old shades. Here’s the how-to, according to The Beauty Department.

You’ll need the old lipstick, as well as a new shade of BABOR – Classic Lip Color. A metallic lipstick can add shine to the old shade if it’s matte, or a nude shade can lighten up a dark color. It’s up to you to get creative with your combinations. You’ll also need a kitchen knife, a spoon and your stove during the process, as well as a clean cosmetics jar (available at beauty supply stores) to put the new color in.

Simply slice off pieces of each lipstick and place them on the spoon. Hold it about four inches over the flame of your stove and allow the lipsticks to melt. Use the spoon to mix the colors together for an even hue, then pour into the jar and let harden. That’s it! Once you have your gorgeous new shade, feel free to top it off with a bit of Jane Iredale – PureGloss to add dimension.

Blue eye makeup is huge this season

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Blue is the color of the season! If you’ve been paying any attention to the world of fashion and beauty this season, you’ve probably noticed how often blue shows up. This classic cool shade is having a resurgence of interest, and if you don’t already have the eyeshadows and eyeliners necessary to pull it off, it’s time to stock up!

According to Allure Magazine, the best thing about this hue is that it’s “bright, sheer, and can be layered to increasing levels of richness.” It will go with almost any outfit and can flatter a variety of skin tones. What’s not to love?

Try it along your upper lash line using blue BABOR – Liquid Eyeliner, then use plenty of mascara to finish the look. (You might even opt for blue mascara for a touch of unexpected color!)

If you’re using blue eyeshadow, try Too Faced – Eye Shadow Duo in Skinny Dip. Sweep the lighter shade over your entire lid, then use the darker hue to darken the crease. Make sure the edges are well blended, then use black liner on your inner rims and finish with mascara. Once you see how versatile blue is, you’ll get a clearer sense of why everyone’s wearing it!

Chic ways to rock a glitter manicure

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Glitter manicures are a cool addition to every style! You might think that once you reach a certain age, some beauty trends are best left untested. This may be true in a few instances but it's definitely not the case when it comes to rocking a glitter manicure. No matter your style or your age, a shimmery mani is fun and pretty. Here are a few ways you can make sure yours is glamorous, according to Glamour Magazine's beauty blog.

1. Use sparkles sparingly. Whether it's just at the base of your nails or on the tips, a little glitter over a nude polish can go long way. Try Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers in Naked.

2. Apply gold glitter over taupe polish. Look for a glitter bottle that has both chunky and fine specks for an intriguing effect. It'll be like wearing a gorgeous gold ring!

3. Do a glitzy French manicure. Instead of white tips, use white glitter or another color that suits your mood. Don't forget to top it off with Lippmann Collection – On A Clear Day Top Coat to seal the sparkles and make it last.

See? Sparkly manicures can be chic and appropriate as long as you use muted colors and a subdued style.
