How to get Jordana Brewster’s pink look from the Chanel 5 Dallas launch party

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Jordana Brewster knows how to pull off delicate makeup! If you've always been a sucker for pink, whether it's a petal-pink dress, a rosy lipstick or even a cute little piggie, you're going to be all over Jordana Brewster's pink ensemble. According to Glamour Magazine's beauty blog, she wore the pastel pink outfit to the recent Chanel 5 Dallas launch party with a matching makeup look. Here's how you can copy her!

Start out with your basic makeup routine of moisturizer, primer, concealer and foundation. You don't want any pinkish splotches or blemishes competing with your beauty products! Now slick on a pale rosy shade of lipstick, like being TRUE – Pure Lip Color in Libertine. Two coats with a blot in between will make sure it lasts.

Now use a light pink blush on the apples of your cheeks to create a natural-looking flush – this'll finish up your face. As for the eyes, line your inner rims and along your lash lines with a black eyeliner like Jane Iredale – Eye Pencil. Sweep a delicate gold shadow across your lids, then use a pink eyeshadow on just the outer corners. Finish with two coats of black mascara and you'll be as pretty as Jordana!

Four summer styles to rock as much as possible before fall starts

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Summer's almost over, so take advantage of the last couple of weeks! It really stinks, but summer's almost over and pretty soon you won't be able to wear those cute sundresses and shorts unless you pair them with tights and long-sleeved shirts. But you still have a couple of weeks left to shamelessly rock summer styles – so go for it! Don't forget to pair your fashions with these summer beauty looks.

1. Neon nail polish. Something like Lippmann Collection – Sweet Dreams Nail Lacquer will cheer you up, even if you're dreading going back to school or suffering through colder weather.

2. Chic updos. Sure, you can still rock a pulled-up style in the fall, but your neck might be a lot colder! Break out those braids, chignons and ponytails while you're still prone to sweat.

3. Bright lipstick. This summer was all about shades like orange and fuchsia, which might not mesh so well with fall fashion staples. Pick up a daring shade of Too Faced – Lip of Luxury while it'll still match your style!

4. Self-tanner. Rocking a goddess glow is a bit weird in the winter unless you just came back from a tropical vacation, so use up the rest of your self-tanners now!

Ten bad habits that are ruining your complexion

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Drinking through a straw can create fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth.Even if you’re diligent about sticking to a skincare routine and have a flair for applying makeup flawlessly, you might still be doing your skin a disservice if you’re guilty of any of these bad habits. Take a look at our list – if you ever catch yourself doing any of these activities, cut it out and take action!

1. Skipping sunscreen. You’ve heard it before, but it’s worth repeating. Sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin against harmful UV rays that can cause cancer, fine lines, wrinkles and a dull complexion. It’s not hard to apply a product like COOLA – Face SPF 20 Mineral Sunscreen Unscented Moisturizer before your makeup every day, and exposed areas of your body should be coated too. Even on cloudy days and in the winter!

2. Sipping from straws. It seems harmless, but pursing your lips around a straw can set you up for fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth as you age. Skip drinking from them as much as possible, or just be sure not to pucker up when you’re sipping.

3. Ignoring your hands and neck. You might be paying a lot of attention to your face, but the skin on your hands and neck is just as delicate. These areas are just as prone to signs of aging, so treat them with as much care as you do your visage. Slather your face serums and moisturizers onto your neck, then follow up with a hand cream like Philosophy – Pure Grace Hand Lotion.

4. Falling asleep with your makeup on. Not only will your pillowcase get messy, but your pores could become clogged, resulting in breakouts and irritation. If you can’t wash your face before bed, at least use a makeup-removing wipe.

5. Popping your zits. While those whiteheads definitely aren’t doing your face any favors, popping them only makes the problem worse. You could spread the bacteria or create marks that may take a long time to fade. Treat blemishes with acne products with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, and keep your hands off!

6. Biting your nails. Not only does this create unattractive fingers, but it can cause infections if you regularly pull hangnails or bite too close to your nail beds. To make your fingernails less tempting to bite, keep them polished with Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers and carry a file in your purse to fix breaks that you’d otherwise try to treat with your teeth.

7. Smoking cigarettes. Duh! As if these weren’t bad enough for your health, they also negatively affect the look and feel of your skin, aging your complexion much faster than if you were a non-smoker. Get help quitting – it’s worth it!

8. Eating junk food. People used to think it was a myth that junk food can cause breakouts, but recent scientific research has proven that processed carbohydrates and sugars really can make your acne worse by stimulating oil-producing hormones called androgens, reports Allure Magazine. Eat high-protein foods and whole grains instead, and you should see an improvement in about six weeks.

9. Taking long, hot showers. Yes, it’s very relaxing to unwind in a steamy shower, especially when you have luxurious bath products like the Whish – Lavender Dream Collection, but staying for too long in a shower that’s too hot can dry out your skin, making it blotchy and itchy.

10. Squinting. Your eyes are the features that are most likely to make you look older than you really are if you don’t take care of the skin around them, and squinting is one of the most offensive things you can do to the area. It creates creases, fine lines and wrinkles when done on a regular basis. Always wear sunglasses and use a rich eye cream at night.

Are you wearing the wrong shade of blush?

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Are you wearing a flattering shade of blush? Before you jump to defend yourself, you should know that we're not talking about "wrong" as in "you look terrible" or "you're not allowed to experiment with trendy shades." By using the wrong blush, we simply mean choosing colors that aren't as flattering to your complexion as others. So what shades DO complement your coloring? Here's what The Beauty Department recommends.

If your skin tone is porcelain, as in really, really light, apricot blush is subtle enough to look natural. Try a shade like Youngblood – Luminous Creme Blush in Champagne Life.

If you could describe your complexion as ivory, try using a pale pink blush for a believable flush.

Beige gals would do well to choose amber blush – it's kind of peachy, kind of pink.

Tawny ladies look luxurious in shades of rose, like BORGHESE – Blush Milano in Puccini Rosegold.

Almond skin, which is dark with warm undertones, looks best with cool-toned blush, like fuchsia.

Got ebony coloring? Something vivid like tangerine orange works perfectly!

Of course, don't be afraid to change it up every now and then if you're trying to create a specific beauty look. Just stick to these shades if you're aiming for a natural finish!

Caring for your Skin Type

Adopt this habits for your unique skin type to maintain an even, blemish-free tone!

  1. Dry Skin: Tight & Uncomfortable
    • Skip the morning wash with soap and use plain water instead. Applying moisturizer frequently helps skin produce and retain natural oils.
  2. Sun Damaged: Spots & Wrinkles
    • While you can’t undo the effects of sun damage, you can prevent further wreckage by always applying sunscreen before heading outside.
  3. Sensitive Skin: Stinging & Burning
    • Reduce exposure to irritating chemicals by avoiding products that contain fragrance, alcohol or acidic ingredients. Stick to well-known and trusted professional skin care products.
  4. Oil & Acne: Shine & Pimples
    • Wash your face 2-3 times daily with a gentle cleanser. Use a light, oil-free moisturizer that won’t clog pores or irritate pimples.

The Essential 24 Body Cream starts making a difference immediately upon application, stimulating fat breakdown and reducing the formation of fat molecules after meals, providing you with slimming effects for up to 30 days after treatment.

The Reshaping Cream is ideal for those who experienced changes in skin after a pregnancy or significant weight loss, reinforcing collagen and elastin levels, reducing fat storage and improving the appearance of cellulite. The Firming Body Cream follows up by giving your complexion a firmer, smoother and more toned surface, diminishing stretch marks and preventing them in the future. Finally, the Velvet Hand Cream delivers the nutrients necessary to protect your hands from the elements and strengthen fragile nails.

Friday, August 17th, 2012

Want fuller-looking lips? Try this trick! There's nothing wrong with having lips that are on the thinner side – plenty of celebs manage to make theirs pop with fun colors and glosses, and you can too. But if you're looking for an easy, go-to way to make your pout appear fuller, sexier and more voluptuous, here's a tip from The Beauty Department that'll make you jump for joy.

The best part? You'll only need two products to pull it off. The first is your favorite lip color, like something from the being TRUE – Pure Lip Color collection. It can be anything from watermelon pink to cherry red to wild fuchsia – as long as you love it, it'll work!

The second product you'll need is a highlighting powder, which could be either a shimmery eyeshadow or something along the lines of Pixi – Lumi Lux Radiance Power.

Now just apply your lip color as usual, then dip your finger in the powder and use it to stamp the color on the center of your bottom and top lips. This will create a flattering 3D effect that'll make your lips look positively plump!
