Get frightfully fashionable beauty tips for your Halloween costumeDo you eagerly count down the days to Halloween, but always have trouble picking out the perfect costume? You don’t need to be a professional makeup artist to flaunt some of these super-sexy looks in time for your big holiday bash! With a few of these quick tips, you can pull off a range of frightfully fun styles with tools from your very own cosmetics bag.

Vampire. They’re trendy, mysterious and impervious to the aging process – what’s not to love about being a vampire? From the Twilight Saga to True Blood, the undead have a timeless allure we just can’t help but swoon over. To sink your teeth into this lively costume idea, start by painting your nails a vampy shade of blood red. With Lippmann Collection – Forsaken Bad Things Nail Lacquer Set, you can capture the sultry energy the undead are so known for.

And as any creature of the night knows, nothing ruins a perfectly decadent party like an uneven complexion, or worse, the dreaded signs of sun damage. Before getting into costume, apply a chemical-free and ultra-hydrating product like COOLA – Face SPF 20 Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tint, which can keep your complexion free from the harmful effects of UV radiation.

Witch. Forget the green skin and the wart-covered nose! If you really want to bewitch your pals this Halloween season, the best costume for you is as a witch. Back in the day, you might have relished dressing up in ghoulish face paint and a black wig to channel a spooky witch vibe, but this year, you can show how magically appealing you’ve become by sporting skin so radiant and age-defying, onlookers are sure to fall under your spell.

With an anti-aging cream like BABOR – Baborganic Pure Age Preventing Cream, you can boost cell regeneration and renewal, both essential in turning back the clock on fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. Best of all, this green product features 100 percent organic ingredients, just like you’d find in your average cauldron.

You can also add a captivating sparkle to your style by sprinkling loose mineral eyeshadow like those offered by Colorscience Pro – Genie Sparkle Colore over your peepers. In dazzling shades like Moonlighting or Wait Until Dark, you’re sure to create a scene.

Medieval queen. For fans of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, this fantasy series has inspired everything from home decor to personal style. This Halloween, you can channel your inner regal and capture the dynamic energy of the show by dressing up just like a Medieval queen!

For a fresh and feminine look that will complement your ensemble, leave your hair unbound or crown yourself with a loose braid. Hair products that will add volume and definition can be a great way to give your tresses a subtle yet luminous appeal.

Playful cat. Are you looking for a costume you can pull together in a pinch? While it may not be the most unique, dressing up as a playful cat for Halloween can be a flattering costume for women of any age and with a few of the right beauty products you can make this style one-of-a-kind. The best part about dressing up as a mischievous kitty for the holiday? It gives you the chance to show off flawlessly crafted cat eyes!

To start, grab a primer and blend it along your upper lash line to ensure your eyeliner stays intact throughout the evening, then gently trace a line over your upper lash. Most importantly, don’t forget to add a swoop! You can make your initial line thicker depending on how much of a statement you want to make.

A precision eyeliner like BABOR – Maxi Definition Eye Liner (Black) offers a calligraphy tip that can make it easy to draw the most exact line possible. One thing’s for sure, though – with this bold look, you’re bound to make a dramatic impression!

Have you ever considered rainbow eyeliner?

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Here's how to pull off rainbow eyeliner! If the first few colors you think of when you hear the word "eyeliner" are black, brown and MAYBE white, it's probably time to spice it up a bit. You could do that with a simple line of blue or purple eyeliner, but why not take it to the extreme with rainbow eyeliner? Halloween is just around the corner, after all. Here's how to get the look, according to The Beauty Department.

First thing's first: you'll need to stock up on several different colors of eyeliner, whether it's liquid eyeliner or pencil. You don't have to go the ROYGBIV route to get a perfect rainbow, but try to pick an assortment of colors that are different yet still look good together.

The source recommends starting with a darker color on your lash lines, as this will help define the shape of your eyes and make your lashes look thicker. Just draw a line like your normally do, and flick it out a bit past your outer corners for a cute cat eye.

Now do the same thing with the rest of the colors, tracing them just above the line you created along your lash lines. Stop when you get to the crease, then go back and neaten or darken lines if you need to. Use a cotton swab and makeup remover to fix up any mistakes, then add mascara and you're good to go!

How to get the “blood-dipped” nails from Prabal Gurung

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

Looking for creepy nails to make your Halloween costume awesome? Look no further! If you're looking for a creepy nail look to wear this Halloween, the nail art from Prabal Gurung's recent runway show is the perfect choice. Referred to as "blood-dipped nails," the effect makes it seem like blood is dripping down the tips of your fingers – great for a spooky costume. Here's the how-to.

First, choose a hydrating base coat and a shade of polish that will make the blood. A bright red could work, but it might look more realistic to choose a darker shade of red-purple. Of course, it's totally up to you!

Once you have the polish picked out, grab a small brush, like one that you'd use for lipstick or eyeliner. Even a regular paintbrush will work just fine. You'll need more precision than you'd get with the regular nail polish brush.

Now create drip shapes by painting from the center of your nail down to the tips. They shouldn't be uniform at all – different heights, shapes and widths look the most convincing. You might even want to make a few blobs that aren't attached to anything.

Once you've made the drippy lines, connect them at the tips of your nails by painting a line like you would if you were doing a French manicure. It doesn't have to be perfect – in fact, it shouldn't be! When that's all set, finish up by painting on a quick-dry top coat. Creepy, right?

Capture a glowing complexion in your photos with the right beauty products

Capture a glowing complexion in your photos with the right beauty productsMaybe you're at the club, or you're having an intimate dinner with friends. It doesn't matter where you might be, because disaster in the form of a candid camera lens can strike at any time.

While commemorating a great night out by snapping a couple of photographs can seem harmless, it could be absolutely disastrous if you're the kind of gal who loves to look effortlessly flawless.

You don't have to shoot the cameraman (or woman!) a thousand-yard glare the next time he or she plays fast and loose with the lens. If you invest in the right beauty products, like a full coverage concealer, you can instantly rid your face of those ultra-embarrassing fine lines and dark circles.

Appearing radiant and full of life in your photos is one thing, but what you don't want is your shiny complexion to be plastered all over Facebook come morning. You can skip out on this – not to mention untagging every photo online – by grabbing a neutralizing primer for sensitive skin and applying it before any other products. This can ensure that your makeup stays on throughout the evening and will cut back on any extra shine.

Channel the dynamic energy of autumn with purpleIt may seem a little unconventional, but hear us out, here – if you really want to capture all the dynamic energy that autumn has to offer, forget the shimmery allure of copper and the cool radiance of silver. If you want to channel the energy of purple into your next ensemble, be sure to go with something like GloMinerals – gloDazzle Gloss in Purple Lotus. This rich hue can leave your lips shiny and moisturized throughout the day, making it a wonderful choice during crisp afternoons this fall.

To transition your look from day to evening and to lend a dazzling accent to your eyes, try Too Faced – Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Perfect Purple or Perfect Black Orchid. Either one of these stunning colors is sure to turn heads and make you the center of attention at your next gathering!
