Would you ever take a milk bath?

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Would you take a bath in milk? There’s nothing more relaxing and indulgent than a long soak in the tub, but have you ever considered bathing in something other than hot water and perhaps a product like AHAVA – Deadsea Mineral Bath Salt Sweet Cinnamon Silk? How about a dip in milk? Believe it or not, this fabulous liquid has plenty of skin benefits, from smoothing to moisturizing to softening. But how can you pull off a DIY milk bath at home without lugging gallons upon gallons of milk to your tub?

According to Glamour magazine’s beauty blog, the answer is powdered milk. All you have to do is mix it in with your water and a few other ingredients if you want to get a soothing soak that will leave your body glowing.

The Natural Beauty Workshop recommends mixing and matching basic ingredients like 2 cups of milk powder, 1 cup of grain powder, ½ cup of honey, clay, salt or cornstarch, 2 tablespoons of herbs or aloe vera, 2 teaspoons of essential oils and ¼ cup of baking soda. Combine them all or just choose ingredients that address your skin’s particular needs.

Some options include goat’s milk, coconut milk, oat flour, rice powder, honey, tea, chamomile, rose oil or lavender oil. Go online and do a bit of research to find the best options for your skin, then get mixing!

If you’re short on time, a body wash like Whish – Coconut Milk Exfoliating Body Wash can give you similar results!

How to make a faux bob

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Like the look of a bob but don't want to cut your long hair? Try a faux bob!Have you ever noticed how some stars rock the red carpet with long, gorgeous locks one night and show up a few days later with a chic bob? Sure, there are extensions and major haircuts that might come into play sometimes, but one of the latest celebrity hair trends is the faux bob. Believe it or not, it's easy to create yourself!

Start out with a reparative shampoo in the shower, which will strengthen weak or broken hair, leaving it much softer and more manageable. A complementary conditioner will further prep your strands for styling.

Now, it's up to you to decide if you want a curly or straight faux bob. Depending on your choice, you may need to use a curling iron or a straightener to achieve the texture you're looking for.

When that's finished, gather your hair into a low ponytail and use a small elastic to secure it loosely toward the end of the tail. Tuck the end underneath the tail and roll the entire thing up toward the nape of your neck. It's okay if a few pieces fall out – especially if you have shorter layers!

Secure the roll of hair in place with plenty of bobby pins, then use a hairspray like Fekkai – COIFF Sheer Hold Hairspray for added hold. That's it!

Reality television star Kendall Jenner stuns on magazine coverWhile she may have grown up in the shadow of her glamorous older sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, model and reality television show personality Kendall Jenner has set out to prove she's a star in her own right.

The brown-haired beauty appears on the cover of Miss Vogue Australia in a sophisticated backless, long-sleeved dress and dashing black hat – the latest in a string of magazine covers for the rising young starlet.

A soap-free, anti-aging face wash that helps stimulate cell renewal can be a stellar way to reduce the visible signs of aging, from wrinkles to fine lines to age spots. Best of all, with a face wash packed with powerful botanical extracts, you can be confident that your skin will look more radiant than ever!

But before you call it a day, it's also important to take care of your hands. A moisturizing cream that offers UV protection can keep your palms looking pretty even if you spend all day in the sun.

Top 10 nail art looks for the holiday season

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Here are our top 10 nail art picks for the holiday season!Chances are you have several holiday gatherings to attend in the upcoming weeks, which means you'll be looking for just as many awesome nail, hair and makeup looks. In the spirit of the holiday season, why not deck your nails out with festive nail art designs? Here are the top 10 to try!

1. Candy cane stripes
There's nothing quite as iconic as candy canes when it comes to Christmas, and luckily they're not that hard to create on your nails. Just grab a white nail polish and paint two coats on top of your base coat. When that's completely dry, use tape or nail stickers to create diagonal stripes (some of them should be a bit wider than others), then paint over your nails with red polish. Peel off the tape or stickers when that's dry to reveal a cute candy-striped design!

2. Snowflakes
To pay homage to the beauty of winter, how about painting an assortment of snowflakes on your nails? After using a base coat, paint your nails a background hue like light blue, red or green. Then use a toothpick or a tiny lip brush dipped in white polish to paint snowflake designs. Just like in real life, they shouldn't all look the same! Add some glitter polish like Lippmann Collection – Stairway To Heaven Nail Lacquer on top for extra sparkle!

3. Gift wrapping
Christmas wrapping paper always comes in festive colors, so it's the perfect inspiration for a holiday manicure. Use gold nail lacquer as a background color, then paint on diagonal stripes in colors like red, green and white. If you need to, look at pictures of wrapping paper online to figure out the best combination.

4. Reindeer
If you're a great artist, you might be able to pull off reindeer on your own. Otherwise, you can find a nail stamp online, which is easy to use. Just paint your nails with a base coat and a background shade, then choose another color for the reindeer and apply it to the stamp. Scrape off the excess, then press on.

5. Holly
Whether it's on an accent nail or you paint it on all 10 of your digits, a sprig of holly is totally festive. Use a red nail polish for the berries and a green polish for the leaves, then add a top coat to seal the design.

6. Glitter
A glitter mani for New Year's is the perfect accessory. Just paint on your base coat as usual, then apply a few layers of a polish like Lippmann Collection – Happy Birthday Nail Lacquer. Paint on a top coat and you'll be sparkling just like that champagne!

7. Hanukkah-inspired
If you're celebrating Hanukkah this year, whip out your blue, white, gold and silver polishes and get creative putting together a fun design. You could go with dreidels, menorahs, stars of David or whatever else you can think of!

8. Snowman
What's cuter than a snowman manicure? Get out your white nail polish and create three circular shapes to form his body on an accent nail, then use colors like black, orange, blue and red to add on his features. A top coat will ensure that your handiwork stays put for days.

9. Bows
What present is complete without a big bow tied on top? Turn your nails into gifts by painting off-centered crosses on each nail, then adding bows in the center of each one. A little sparkle will make them extra special.

10. Gingerbread man
Make your manicure super sweet with gingerbread man accent nails. Just paint a background color, then use a brown polish for his body and add decorations like eyes, clothes or hats. How cute!

Do you struggle with flyaways?

Monday, November 19th, 2012

Do you struggle with flyaways? When it comes to making a stunning first impression, having well-maintained and luxurious hair is an important component. Yet, when the winter season gets underway, it can be difficult to keep locks looking their best. From cold winds to blistering snow storms, most women battle the elements by bundling up in scarves and hats – this can lead to the dreaded appearance of flyaways.

If your hair gets static-like after wearing a hat or other woolen material, you don't need to fret. You can guard against this threat with a few simple beauty steps.

For starters, you should invest in quality shampoo products and a silky finish conditioner that will leave your mane voluminous and hydrated. You may not think this matters in the fight against flyaways, but you couldn't be more wrong. By having well-nourished strands, you can prevent a host of follicle foibles, including frizz and flyaways.

Once you're through, you can make your beleaguered locks feel good as new with a non-sticky hairspray that can allow you style your hair into any look you desire. A reliable spray can also keep your strands from going haywire if you slip a hat over your head for a trek outdoors.

One easy trick for creating winged eyeshadow

Friday, November 16th, 2012

Wondering how to get the perfect winged eyeshadow? You know that winged eyeliner is cool, but have you ever considered winging out your eyeshadow? Celebrities and gals everywhere have been experimenting with this look lately, and it's suddenly an awesome trend! It's a little edgy and daring, but with the right outfit and attitude, you're sure to pull it off. Here's how!

According to The Beauty Department, all you have to do is start with a basic smokey eye, which should cover your entire lid – extending out toward the end of your brows. BORGHESE – Shadow Milano Trio can help you achieve the perfect blend of color.

Now grab a makeup removing wipe, or use a cotton ball or pad dipped in a little AHAVA – Time To Clear Eye Make Up Remover. Starting from the corner of your eye, drag the wipe or pad up in a diagonal line toward the end of your eyebrow. This will create a clean edge for your wing. If you want a perfect edge, a cotton swab dipped in the makeup remover will neaten it up.

That's all it takes! But if you want even more drama, the source recommends using the wing shape as a guide for your eyeliner, then create a cat eye.
