How Springtime Blossoms Affect Beauty Trends

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

Isn’t it wonderful that winter’s finally over and springtime blossoms have reappeared? Don’t get me wrong. I like the cold seasons as much as anyone, but it sure is refreshing to see bright blue skies and flower gardens again. One of the most amazing things about the changing season is the way new spring blooms affect beauty. Yes, fields of fresh wildflowers are lovely to look at, but I’m talking about the way the flowers of May have a direct impact on our color choices in fashion and in makeup, too.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker HairI don’t know about you, but I was done with winter about a month ago. Boot weather is nice, but enough is enough. Now that spring is here, it’s time to put the heavy winter woolens into storage and time to unpack our favorite cotton sun dresses and strappiest sandals. Springtime is all about renewal and fresh beginnings, right? May is the perfect month to take a break from heavy winter cosmetics. Now’s a great time to do a bit of spring cleaning, both in our closets and in our cosmetic cases, too.

As Mother Nature shares her most vibrant hues, we can strike a more colorful pose. Adopt a pastel palette and toss off the muted earth tones of your winter makeup routine. Springtime is the right time to change it up with Easter egg colors and seashell tints on fingertips, eyes and lips. Ditch your heavy creme foundation and switch to a lightweight silky powder. My favorite this year? Natural Mineral Foundation by Youngblood.

Before they told us how dangerous solar radiation can be, we girls used to spend the month of May working on our suntans. Not such a good idea anymore, but that’s no reason we can’t have a bit of sun kissed springtime bloom on our faces. Super lightweight Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel gives us a sweet blush without the hazards of UV light or the bulk of heavy blushing creams.

If you have any questions about Beauty Bridge products, send us an email or give our customer service number a jingle. We’re always delighted to speak with our customers. In the meantime, I have a springtime flower garden I need to go see about.

Ciao for now!

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every WeekWomen love to spend quality time in the bathroom doing the things that make us beautiful. To ensure that this time is well-spent, we need to be doing things that have a real impact on the way we look and how we feel about ourselves. The seven following beauty treatments fit into those categories, and you can do them on a weekly basis.

1. Face Masques

With so many different types of masques in existence, you will be able to find a product that can reduce any particular problem. For example, if you have acne, a clay masque has the effect of reducing the amount of oil and grease in the skin. One excellent example is Exuviance Purifying Clay Masque. By using a clay masque, your skin will receive essential anti-oxidants as well as a moisturizer that gives your skin a soft and smooth look and feel.

2. Hair Treatments

Some people recommend that you do a hair treatment every month. In order to have the best results, a weekly treatment is going to be necessary. You may wish to try theBalm Enroot Conditioning Treatment Mask that brings anti-oxidants, rice proteins and bamboo extracts to your hair. Bamboo extracts have the effect of strengthening your hair while it restores moisture and increases the hair’s volume.

3. Microdermabrasion

As an anti-aging product, microdermabrasion is placed near the top. However, if used to often, microdermabrasion can have harsh side effects. When used on a weekly basis, it is extremely effective as an exfoliator and is even known as an alternative to the face lift. Sothy’s Renewal Microdermabrasion Mask is one example that will brighten your skin after every use.

4. Body Scrubs

The rest of your body needs to be exfoliated as much as your face does. For this purpose, people travel all the way to the Dead Sea to experience its therapeutic effects. You only need AHAVA Deadsea Salt Softening Butter Salt Scrub that contains Dead Sea salt to have similar results. Dead Sea salt has the effect of reducing deep wrinkles and making your skin feel nourished, clean and soft.

5. Whiten Your Teeth

As we age, our teeth become stained with the food we eat and the beverages that we drink. To combat this reality, a weekly teeth whitening routine that restores your smile to its former brilliance is warranted. However, teeth whitening doesn’t have to be a difficult procedure. The GoSmile On the Go Teeth Whitening Pen makes whitening your teeth simple with an easy-to-use pen that you can apply and go or take with you.

6. Brow Grooming

Sometimes, we neglect our eyebrows, but this will be less likely to occur if you have something like Youngblood’s Brow ARTISTE Kit. You will be able to ensure that your eyebrows are perfectly groomed every week with this product’s botanical brow wax that does not contain any parabens. The kit also comes with pigmented brow powder. This makes it possible for you to groom your eyebrows and end with a natural look.

7. Upper Lip Wax

The hair on the upper lip is a constant thorn in the sides of women especially if they color their hair. A weekly upper lip wax will eliminate this problem. It can be a simple matter of applying a wax strip to the area and quickly removing the unwanted hair. To achieve this goal, Bliss Poetic Waxing Wax Strips Face is an excellent choice because it is hypoallergenic and contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is a substance that has been known to ease the pain of wounds and also aids in healing.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair

1. Use The Right Shampoo and Conditioner
The first step to having thick and luxurious looking hair is to use the right products in the shower. Many shampoos and conditioners focus on hydrating hair, which is a good thing, but thin hair can be weighed down and made to look limp. Replacing your current cleanser with either Hamadi – Honey Soymilk Hair Wash or Leonor Greyl – Bain Volumateur Aux Algues, both of which offer lightweight moisture and a volume boost, may make a huge difference in how full your hair appears.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair2. Don’t Let Long Hair Weight You Down
When it comes to making your hair look thicker, less can be more. The longer your hair is, the more weight it has, which can make it appear flat. Not only are shorter looks easier to manage, they also tend to look fuller. Getting a blunt cut with bangs or going for artfully arranged layers makes can make even baby fine hair appear full of volume.

3. Blow Dry Your Hair With The Right Tools
For many people with thin hair, blow drying is a must. However, you want to be sure that you are using the right tools and products when doing so. You should be using a product that will both protect your hair as well as add volume, such as Fekkai – COIFF Defense Pre-Style Thermal/UV Protectant. These types of products will help you get volume without also making hair appear brittle or lifeless due to heat damage.

4. Use Curlers and Rollers
Curls are a great way to pump up the volume in your hair, and you can easily achieve this using a curling iron or hot rollers. If you don’t want to go with ringlets, you can also add extra oomph to your hair by using large rollers that create a more wavy or tousled look.

5. Add Volume With Extensions
One way that a lot of models and actresses get extra volume is by using falls or extensions in their hair. There are both synthetic and natural hair pieces available, and most can be dyed to match your exact hair color. Additionally, you can choose your level of commitment; salons can put in extensions that last for months or you can purchase clip-ins for daily use.

6. Maintain Your Hair’s Health
If you’ve already got hair that is fine, it’s important to keep it looking healthy and shiny. Hair with numerous split ends and that looks dull will appear even flatter, and you are looking for volume, not frizz. Treatments like Leonor Greyl – Creme Regeneratrice can undo the effects of damage from heat and styling as well as adding volume to naturally thin hair.

7. Consider Your Diet
Getting fuller hair is more than about what you put on your head, it’s also about what you put in your body. Adding certain items to your diet or taking supplements can improve the building blocks your body has to work with when it comes to growing hair. Biotin, Zinc and B-Vitamins are all essential to healthy and full hair, so adding them to a diet that is lacking can speed up the growth of hair as well as improving its overall appearance.

Dry Brushing for Health

Saturday, April 12th, 2014

As technology advances, there are a variety of options to choose from when investing in one’s health and beauty, but sometimes the simplest methods are the most efficient. If silky smooth skin is the goal, and it usually is, one of the best ways to achieve it is through dry brushing. This technique is used at spas throughout the world to brighten and tighten skin, leaving it with a healthy glow, but this practice is perfect for those who prefer to treat themselves at home. Investing just a few minutes a day can help improve circulation, toxin elimination and exfoliation.
Dry Brushing for Health
Exfoliation
The most obvious benefit of dry brushing is the sloughing away of dead skin cells. By eliminating the rough, dry patches, the skin’s overall appearance will show noticeable improvement. It also preps the epidermis for any further treatment, such as moisturizers or body masks, by removing a barrier and allowing skin care products to penetrate.

Lymphatic Drainage and Cell Renewal
While the body has systems in place that naturally filter and detoxify, dry brushing helps to speed up the process. The pressure of the brush, when moved in the proper direction, pushes the lymph through the body to aid in waste elimination.

Cellulite
Many spas use dry brushing as a part of cellulite treatment. Opinions are varied as to the usefulness of the procedure and whether or not eliminating toxins actually reduces the appearance of cellulite. Some critics claim that the results are only a temporary plumping, but for some clients, even that may be enough.

When dry brushing at home, always start at the feet and work up, using long upward motions towards the heart. A stiff brush with natural bristles is the best choice, but watch that the skin does not become irritated or inflamed and be sure to avoid areas with abrasions or cuts. While it is important that the brush is slightly rough, very little pressure is needed for positive results.

To clean the brush, simply use mild shampoo and warm water, then let it air dry completely to avoid a gathering of bacteria. Dry brushing can make a dramatic difference in any skincare routine and still remain simple and cost effective.

Spring Manicure Trends

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Spring Manicure TrendsSpring is the traditional time for rebirth and renewal, which makes spring the perfect season for trying out new styles. Along with donning shorter skirts and outfits in brighter hues, trendsetters may want to experiment with unique colors and nail art techniques this spring. The word for Spring 2014 nails is “subtlety,” so step outside the box and elicit compliments wherever you go with the following understated spring manicure styles that are easy to do at home.

Tortoiseshell

The ombré nail trend is still going strong, but the coming of spring gives you the opportunity to play with it a little and make it your own. Try the tortoiseshell, or ecaille, technique as an alternative. Recently demonstrated as a hair technique by celebrity fashionistas including Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, tortoiseshell fading also looks great on your nails. With this technique, two nail colors, usually complementary, fade into each other much more subtly than with traditional two-tone ombré contrasting.

Pearled

Who knew that the timeless elegance of pearls could come to life on your nails? For a simple touch of luxury that works perfectly with your favorite little black dress, coat your nails with two layers of a sweet-colored polish, like bubblegum pink or sky blue. Using tweezers, carefully add pearl rhinestones at the base of each nail, covering about one-third of the surface.

Textured

Textured nails were on display at New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2014 runways, and adding a bit of texture is a great way to have fun with your nails without being too gaudy or over-the-top. Start with a light pastel or Earth-toned polish. On a paper plate, mix the polish with a few teaspoons of coffee grounds or coarsely-ground sugar, then apply. Make your three-dimensional nails shine by finishing with a topcoat.

Radiant Orchid

Radiant Orchid, 2014’s color of the year is bold and striking, and it’s perfect for those who like to stand out. On your nails, use the tortoiseshell technique with Radiant Orchid and a lighter violet or lavender hue, or accent a neutral-toned outfit with Radiant Orchid polish and lipstick. Because nothing about Radiant Orchid is subtle, a small touch is all it takes to turn heads.
