Anti-aging Tips By AgeLet’s face it, we all get older. You can kick, cry, and scream that you don’t want to say good-bye to your youthful appearance, but that won’t stop the calendar from moving forward. However, by taking a proactive approach and starting an anti-aging routine when you’re young, you can hold on to those youthful years just a little bit longer. We’ve taken the liberty of breaking out simple routines based on age to help you get started.

- If you’re in your 20′s
Lucky you to still have a youthful face. However, that youth can also be a curse if you don’t take the time to think about anti-aging. Right now you should be wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to save yourself a lot of grief later one. Additionally, skip the tanning beds. Self tanners are getting better than ever and they won’t give you wrinkles.

- If you’re in your 30′s
While in your 30′s, water may quickly become your best friend. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the easiest ways to keep skin looking young. In addition, make sure that you’re using a daily moisturizer and taking plenty of vitamin D (at least 1,000 IUs per day).

- If you’re in your 40′s
Anti-aging in your 40′s isn’t just about healthy skin; it’s also about a healthy you. Be sure that you’re eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and cut back on the processed sugar. Regular exercise will also give you a healthy glow. If you haven’t started yet, then it’s time to use retinol to minimize fine lines around your eyes.

- If you’re in your 50′s
This can be a busy age where sleep takes a back seat to higher priorities, but this will wreak havoc on your skin. Make sure you carve at least 8 hours of shuteye a night for yourself. Additionally, consider start using hyaluronic acid if you’re noticing fine lines around your mouth; this product will help hide them.

- If you’re in your 60′s
Starting to worry about anti-aging in your 60′s isn’t too little too late; after all, it’s never too late to start taking proper care of your skin. At this age, the right eye make up can hide drooping eyelids and use products with white or green tea extracts to help fight swelling. Additionally, check that the air in your home isn’t too dry; the lack of moisture is bad for your skin.

Health and Beauty Benefits of Nutmeg

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Health and Beauty Benefits of NutmegMost people are familiar with nutmeg as a common kitchen spice. However, few people realize that its benefits go far beyond making tasty treats. Nutmeg is also has potent benefits for health and beauty. Here are just a few of the things you can try it for.

Tooth Pain

If you’re experiencing tooth pain, it’s strongly advised that you see your dentist. However, you can’t always get to the dentist right away. In that case, you can temporarily control the pain by placing some nutmeg oil or powder on the affected tooth. Eugenol, a substance also found in cloves, will numb the area for a time. This can keep you more comfortable until you can make a dentist appointment.

Even Complexion

Are you looking for a natural, inexpensive way to enhance your complexion? If so, just combine honey and powdered nutmeg into a paste and rub it gently onto your skin. Within days, you’ll notice a clearer complexion and reduced appearance of acne scars. Furthermore, nutmeg contains powerful antiseptic properties that can help prevent additional breakouts caused by bacteria.

Preventing Tooth Decay

Clear skin isn’t the only thing nutmeg’s antiseptic properties are good for. It can also help prevent tooth decay through the same action. Eugenol is highly toxic to the harmful oral bacteria that eat away at tooth enamel, which is why it’s so often added to toothpastes. However, you can get the same effect just by sprinkling a little nutmeg powder onto your toothbrush during your regular brushing routine.

Digestive Aid

You’ve enjoyed a big meal of pizza with drinks and dessert, and now you’re bloated and it feels like your dinner is just sitting in your stomach. This happens to everyone occasionally, especially when overindulgence in unhealthy foods is involved. Fortunately, nutmeg offers an easy and delicious solution to these problems. The spice has been used for thousands of years as a digestive tonic to relieve gas, indigestion, bloating and heartburn. One easy way to use nutmeg for this purpose is to steep a quarter teaspoon of the powder in a cup of hot water and drink it as a tea.

Nail Fungus

Nail fungus is a common problem that affects millions of people, but that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing or unsightly. Furthermore, these fungal infections can be notoriously difficult to treat, and many over-the-counter drugs have unreliable effects. If you’ve tried other treatments only to have them fail, give nutmeg a try. It contains a number of potent antifungal compounds that can help thwart stubborn nail fungus.

With all of the things nutmeg can do, it’s no wonder that it’s long been one of the world’s most prized spices. Try adding it to your daily health regimen and beauty routine to take advantage of its numerous benefits.

Healthy Squash RecipesSquash are a delicious, versatile vegetable that can be combined with an array of different ingredients to create tasty dishes. Zucchini, a summer squash, and butternut squash, a winter vegetable, are two squashes that are both healthy and very appetizing.

Baked Zucchini with Savory Sauce

Ingredients

Zucchini
• 3 zucchinis
• ½ cup of Panko breadcrumbs
• 1 cup of dried breadcrumbs
• ¼ cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
• ½ teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
• ½ teaspoon of salt
• 2 large eggs, beaten

Sauce

• 2 small red peppers
• ½ cup of cubed French bread (sans crusts)

• 1 ½ tablespoons of smoked almonds
• ¼ teaspoon of salt
• 1/8 teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
• ¼ teaspoon of Spanish paprika
• 1 garlic clove

Zucchini: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut each zucchini in half, and then cut each half into 8 wedges. In a large mixing bowl, combine both types of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, pepper and salt. Dip the zucchini wedges in the beaten eggs then dredge them in the breadcrumb mix. Place the pieces on a lightly greased baking sheet and cook for approximately 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve with the dipping sauce

Sauce: Preheat the broiler. Cut and seed the bell peppers and remove the membranes. Place the peppers (skin side up) and tomatoes on a baking sheet and broil for 10 minutes or until the outsides are blackened. Place the peppers and tomatoes in a plastic bag and let stand for approximately 15 minutes. Once the time is up, peel the peppers and tomatoes, and then chop them into tiny pieces, saving any liquid. Place the peppers, tomatoes and the rest of the sauce ingredients into a food processor and process until the mixture is smooth.

Bring the contents to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat. Simmer for approximately 20 minutes or until the butternut squash is tender. Puree half of the soup in a food processor, and then add back to the stockpot, or use a stick blender and puree until the soup is partially smooth, leaving some chunks. Garnish with fresh sage and serve warm or hot.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness MonthOnce again October is upon us and so is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While the disease affects both men and women, it remains the second leading cause of death among women. Because of this, it’s important to join together this month to discuss and work toward finding a cure. Whether someone close to you has suffered or you simply want to help end it, every single person is welcome to join this fight.

What is Breast Cancer?
Cancer can occur anywhere in the body. It happens when the DNA within a cell becomes damaged, mutating the once healthy host. This mutant then begins to replicate unchecked within the body, invading other, healthier parts. Luckily, with all of the research and work going into officially stopping it, breast cancer rates have been dropping since 1990. This is often attributed to better screening and early detection techniques.

How is it Diagnosed?
Nowadays, there a great many ways to check for breast cancer. The main method is known as a mammogram. This is a special type of x-ray that allows the doctor to find any suspicious tissue. Ultrasounds work the same way as those done for pregnant women, the only difference being it is performed on the breasts. The MRI is another scanning method and provides the most detailed visuals of the breast tissue. Other times, the doctor can remove a small bit of tissue to run a biopsy on. This test determines if the sampled tissue is cancerous or not.

What about Self-Exams?
For early detection, a self-examination method has been developed and can be done in three locations. While bathing, use the fingers to move around the breasts in a circular motion from the outside to the center. If you notice and lumps or hardening knots, have them checked out by a doctor. The exam can also be done in front of a mirror. Simply raise your arms over your head and then flex your chest muscles after putting your hands on your hips. Watch the breasts intently to see if there is any dimpling or puckering. Finally, lie down with a pillow under one shoulder. Like in the bath, use your fingers to check the tissue in a circular motion with different amounts of pressure. Note if there are any strange lumps or discharge from the nipples.

How Can I Help?
While you may not be a millionaire, you can still help the cause and help yourself. During this month, many companies put together products that donate proceeds to breast cancer research. Items like a Murad Hydrate For Hope Set or a AHAVA Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream 50% More Breast Cancer Awareness Edition are great ways to keep yourself healthy and clean while helping continue the steady decline of breast cancer.

Astrological Signs and Beauty

Astrological Signs and Beauty

Astrology and Personality

If you follow astrology, you’re probably familiar with all of the typical personality traits that are associated with all of the various signs. If you’re an Aries, for example, you’re likely aware of your spirited and fiery reputation. If you’re a Libra, on the other hand, you’re likely familiar with your sign’s intuitive, sensitive and careful characteristics.

Astrology and Beauty

The characteristics of astrological signs aren’t just limited to personality traits, however. They’re also frequently associated with beauty, surprisingly enough. If you’re a Pisces, a look that works well for you might not necessarily be so flattering on a Cancer, and vice versa. As a result, learning about what styles are most suitable for your specific astrological sign can go a long way in enhancing and improving your overall look and fashion.

Fire Signs and Beauty

If you’re a fire sign such as a Sagittarius, Leo or Aries, you might want to have a makeup look that’s as intense and unforgettable as your personality. Bright red lipstick and nail polish can help you accomplish that.

Air Signs and Beauty

If you’re an air sign such as an Aquarius, Libra or Gemini, then a more minimalistic and fresh approach to cosmetics might do a world of wonder for you. A light BB cream or tinted moisturizer that will make your complexion look vibrant, even and luminous can help you achieve that.

Water Signs and Beauty

If you’re a water sign such as a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancer, then you might look wondrous in cosmetics that are geared toward cool complexion tones. Sheer, light makeup usually is effective for water signs. Light cream-based eyeshadows are a great example of tasteful makeup that can give your look a slight “pop” that’s both attractive and mesmerizing.

Earth Signs and Beauty

Last but certainly not least, if you’re an earth sign such as a Capricorn, Virgo or Taurus, then you might want to investigate somewhat modest and earthy makeup options. Soft bronze colors on your lips and eyes might be excellent. If you apply a light coating of bronze eyeshadow, then you might be able to accomplish the low-key beauty that is so characteristic of classic earth signs.

Astrological Signs and Shopping For Beauty

When you shop around for makeup, it’s crucial to be as diligent and patient as possible. Never simply buy the first makeup item you see on the counter, no matter how popular it seems or how pretty the packaging is. If you try to purchase makeup items that are appropriate for your specific astrological sign, however, you could be doing yourself a great favor. Astrological signs are often excellent indications of personality in people. As a result, it’s not a big surprise that they can often indicate what beauty styles are effective for people. Your personality and your personal style frequently go hand in hand, after all. Be sure to check out Beauty Bridge for more exciting makeup options that are geared toward your sign.

De-Stress with Beauty ProductsLet’s be honest. When you feel beautiful and pampered, you naturally feel less stressed. So, why not do a little extra pampering to reduce your stress levels even more. Your new go-to routine for reducing your stress levels should be centered on a few simple beauty products and practices (plus a few pieces of chocolate). Try a simple 3 step beauty process paired with our favorite stress-relieving beauty products the next time your feel your anxiety levels rising.

The 3 Step Process for De-Stressing

There are 3 major components to a de-stressing routine. You’ll feel much better if you are able to relax your body, rejuvenate your face, and pamper your hands and feet.

1. Relax Your Body

Your first step toward reducing stress has to be to relax your body. Think a relaxing bath followed by a gentle massage. While you might not be able to accomplish the massage on your own, you can definitely take advantage of a calming bath and apply a little lotion to leave your feeling more relaxed.

2. Rejuvenate Your Face

There are few things more relaxing than the perfect massage and facial. Why not offer yourself the same level of care at home and at least give yourself a few moments of peace with a rejuvenating facial at home.

3. Pamper Your Hands and Feet

Once you’ve relaxed your body and rejuvenated your face, you need to target two other key areas for ultimate stress relief – your hands and feet. Because you likely spend a great deal of time on your feet and working with your hands throughout the day, these areas are tension sites. A mani-pedi is great for relieving stress, but sometimes you just don’t want to go anywhere but home. Try soaking your hands and feet and applying a little lotion at home instead.

Best Beauty Products to Use to Lower Your Stress Levels

The key to any de-stressing routine, though, is the right products. If you are trying to achieve ultimate relaxation at home, try these products.

Lavender Herbal Bath

Few scents are more relaxing than lavender. The calming aroma as well as the complex herbal composition of lavender make it the perfect options after a long day at work. Try Kneipp – Lavender Balancing Herbal Bath to relax your entire body.

Facial Mask

Taking time out of your busy schedule to apply a facial mask is one of the best treats you can give yourself. Masks help refine your skin and offer you a little time out to reset and relax. Try Philosophy – Purity Made Simple Deep-Clean Mask or AHAVA – Time to Clear Purifying Mud Mask.

Hand Cream

Even the simple application of hand or foot cream can help you detox and de-stress. Take a few minutes to massage some lotion into your hands and on your feet and you’ll feel your anxiety dropping in no time. Try Caswell-Massey – English Lavender Hand Cream or AHAVA – Leave-on Deadsea Mud Dermund Intensive Hand Cream for ultimate relaxation.

Whatever you have going on, take a few minutes for you. Taking a time out to relax and applying a few simple beauty products will leave you feeling calm, refreshed, and beautiful.

All-Over Beauty: A Practical Guide To Bust and Decollete Care

All-Over Beauty: A Practical Guide To Bust and Decollete CareMany of us have detailed and complicated skincare regimens, full of targeted creams and serums meant to treat our biggest skin concerns. However, for as much love as we give the skin on our faces and necks, we often neglect the delicate skin on our busts and decolletes. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be using products meant to target concerns in this area. To help you get a more lovely bust, here is a practical guide to bust and decollete care.

Protect Against The Sun

Too many women who take painstaking care to protect their faces and necks from sun damage fail to provide the same level of attention to their decollete. Sun damage on the decollete area can cause permanent scarring and discoloration, which can thereby ruin your appearance whenever you want to rock a low-cut dress. Protect your decollete skin by applying sunscreen to the area whenever you go outside. We love the DCL Super Sheer Sunscreen in SPF 50+ for this area.

Buff Away Impurities

If you struggle with an uneven skin tone on your decollete, buff away those impurities and irregularities by using an exfoliating treatment in the shower. However, be careful with what product you choose. Fine facial scrubs might be too gentle to do any real resurfacing, but coarse body scrubs can be too irritating. Try a finely milled exfoliating wash that is designed for the body but free of any rough, sugar-like granules, such as the Philosophy Microdelivery Micro-Massage Exfoliating Wash.

Treat With The Right Products

You use the appropriate serums and moisturizers for your face. So why not give your bust and decollete the same love? There are a myriad of products specifically designed to treat and target problems in the decollete area. If you’re trying to combat signs of aging, try an anti-aging bust serum, such as the BABOR Skinovage PX Intensifier Firming Neck and Decollete Cream. If you long for a fuller bust, try a plumping and firming serum like the Talika Bust Phytoserum.

As with any skincare concern, the best way to get a beautiful finish is by combining the right beauty regimen with the right lifestyle choices. As always, get enough water, sleep and nutrients, and you will be all the more closer to a beautiful bust and decollete.

Fun Ways to Organize Your Makeup

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014

Fun Ways to Organize Your MakeupBuilding a beauty station of your own with the use of makeup and accessories is an easy way to access the items you need on-the-go or when getting prepared for any event. Getting a bit inventive and creative when organizing your makeup is not only a way to maintain organization, but it is also a way to create a fun space and atmosphere any time you are using new makeup and beauty tools.

Brushes

Organizing your makeup brushes can be done by utilizing glass mason jars, plastic tooth brush holders and other vertical jars or bins. Using colorful craft boxes and bins that allow for upright standing is another way to store your brushes without laying them down flat and horizontally. Keeping your makeup brushes standing at all times is a way to give them oxygen, helping to preserve your tools for longer periods of time.

Nail Polish

When you want to get creative with organizing your nail polish collection, doing so is possible by investing in clear glass boxes, bottles or bins. It is also possible to organize nail polishes by creating your own customized shelf, suitable just for the size of nail polish bottles. When organizing your nail polish, doing so by color and shade is the quickest way to get the polish you need whenever you are ready for a fresh manicure or pedicure of your own.

Foundation and Concealer

Organizing your foundation and concealer is best done by tone and shade, whether you use mostly pale colors or if you have bronze foundations and concealers. When organizing concealer sticks, do so by lining them up from lightest to darkest to get the concealer you need anytime you have a pimple, blemish or red mark on your skin. Organizing foundation by shade is the fastest way to complete any makeup job.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is one of the most exciting types of makeup to organize, especially if you have a collection with a wide range of color palettes and schemes. Organizing eye shadow can be done for evening and day wear in addition to organizing the eye shadows you own by color and shade. It is also possible to organize eye shadows by liquid and powder materials, making it simple to get the color you need for the look you envision for yourself at any time.

Implementing a few fun ways to organize your makeup is a way for you to quickly access any color palette or type of makeup you need within seconds. Keeping your makeup organized at all times is essential whether you’re an avid nail polish collector or if you have a variety of eye shadow shades that are fitting for just about any occasion.

Choosing Your Signature Scent

Sunday, August 17th, 2014

Choosing Your Signature ScentWhether an array of florals or a musky vanilla catches the attention of your nose, you have recently become more interested in perfumes. While you like to dabble with different scents from time-to-time, you would like to know how to pick out a scent that is your very own.

What Appeals to You
No one can tell you what the best scent for you to wear is except yourself. The scent has to be one that you are attracted to. Some people find certain smells horrific, and others laud the same scents at the most pleasing to the olfactory sense. Start with getting a basic idea of what smells you like. For example, a deep lavender fragrance is much different from a light strawberry mist.

Consider Its Appeal
While you want to love the scent, you also do not want to smell offensive to everyone around you. People who work in a small office with many others probably want to avoid opting for anything that is too potent. Take a family member or friend with you. The person does not need to love the scent, but make sure he or she does not seem entirely repulsed by it.

Light and Heavy
You also need to think about how heavy the perfume is. If you are looking to buy something that you can wear every day no matter where you go, then you likely need to choose something a bit lighter. However, for those who wear perfume only to special events, the options are at least a bit wider.

Consider Allergies
Let’s say that you found the perfect scent for your senses. However, you should not buy it without checking the list of ingredients. Failure to do so could mean that you are purchasing a product to which you are allergy, and the consequences could vary from mild to extremely serious.

Order Some Samples
Purchasing some small samples can help you to determine if you really like a perfume and how long it lasts on your body. Individuals who frequently buy makeup or other such products from one particular store might even be entitled to some free samples. Then, you do not need to spend any money determining which perfume should act as your signature scent.

Knowing what you like, but also what is realistic to wear all of the time, will help you to decide upon the perfume to purchase.

Fall Beauty Trends

Fall 2014 Beauty TrendsMetallics, thick lashes and bold liners along with statement-hair are some of the magnificent beauty trends waiting for us just around the corner for fall. Dramatically layering it all on has never been more practical or acceptable until this season. Going hand-in-hand with pulling out the comfy over-sized sweaters, sexy boots and trendy scarves, this year’s fall beauty trends allow for complete indulgence. Combining awe-inspiring colors with the bling of metallic-sparkle is what’s in-store. In addition to framing out the entire eye-dazzling application of a bold, dramatic eye in black, cosmetics will compliment one another by taking a traditional focal point and amplifying it.

Quirky fall cosmetic colors

This fall we will see bright colors like aqua blues, brilliant oranges and yellows alongside gunmetal and mineral tones to anchor them. Make-up trends will be both adventurous and unapologetic. Interestingly, it is now more acceptable than ever to utilize bold pops of color on more than one feature. For instance, a bold lip paired with heavy eye-make up somehow works this fall since the eye make-up still trumps the bright lip through featuring thicker-than-thick lashes and generous liner application.

Lush lashes

Evening-style lashes have now become the wildly popular style of the day. Keeping in-tune with the Summer’s falsie-style lashes, the blackest black mascaras combined with popular lash serums like Peter Thomas Roth’s lashes to die for make lashes bolder and more lush than ever before. Dark, thick eyeliner styles emphasize the deliberate use of bold shadow-color gorgeously this fall.

Statement hair

Frizz-free styles like intricate braids, blunt bangs and deep hues like black-blues and vibrant reds will dominate. Longer tresses that can be both worn blown-out, full and wavy or pulled into purposeful pony-tails will be seen throughout the fall season. Keeping up with fall beauty trends will be tremendously workable with the assortment of fall hair accessories like small embellished clips and thin, detailed headbands as well.

Fall beauty trends are fashion forward, bold and combine a daring mix of great products. A contoured complexion is the basis for achieving the perfect fall look this year. Shimmer and glitter that was once more appropriate for the hotter months, has transitioned brilliantly into this year’s fall beauty trends arsenal. From brightening make-ups to illuminating radiance powders, these rich, fall beauty trends will keep us glowing and as beautiful as the season ahead.
