Skincare Benefits of Oxygen

Saturday, November 8th, 2014

Skincare Benefits of OxygenCells need oxygen to survive, and skin cells are no different. The unfortunate effects of smothering skin under layers of makeup– or, even worse, sleeping with makeup on– are well known, but it turns out that topically applying skin can help it stay fresh, youthful, and healthy.

Oxygen was first found to help heal people with severe burns. Oxygen gas, which is naturally present in a stable, bonded form, helps increase cell turnover and speeds up cellular metabolism. This makes it helpful for anyone that wants to maintain healthy skin.

Oxygen Therapy vs. Oxidative Damage

Oxygen isn’t always friendly to skin. Oxidative stress, an imbalance between reactive forms of oxygen and the body’s ability to neutralize them, leads to free radical damage. This damage is partially associated with signs of aging, including dull, sagging, and wrinkled skin. Oxygen therapy doesn’t contribute to this kind of skin damage, since is uses stable diatomic oxygen molecules rather than unstable, unpaired oxygen atoms.

How Oxygen Is Delivered to Skin

Hospitals have access to oxygen tents and gas tanks, but these aren’t remotely practical for home use. Fortunately there are skincare products containing oxygen on the market that offer it in a stabilized liquid form, which converts to oxygen gas once the product is applied. This lets users get the benefit of fresh, oxygenated skin without having to resort to gas tanks and expensive trips to specialty spas.

Antioxidants and Oxygen

Much has been made of antioxidants when it comes to fighting aging and preventing free radical damage. One of the benefits of using skincare products that contain oxygen is that they can be combined with antioxidants like vitamin E, botanical ingredients, or other compounds that have their own skin-saving virtues. In the end, it’s possible to get the best of both worlds– improved skin health with oxygen, and prevention of free radical damage.

Maintaining healthy skin means protecting it from damage and providing all of the nutrients it needs, including oxygen. By thoroughly cleansing skin every night to remove oxygen-blocking debris and clear out pores, and applying oxygen-containing skincare products afterward, you can have a brighter, clearer, more youthful complexion.

Must Have Fall Fashion Accessories

Wednesday, November 5th, 2014

Must Have Fall Fashion AccessoriesThe fall season is the time to bundle up in warm attire and enjoy feeling cozy to ward off the chill of the lower temperatures outside. Although it’s easy to hide in oversized coats and thick boots, there are a number of accessories to wear that will dress up your clothes and allow you to look current with the latest trends. Instead of feeling frumpy, you can feel your absolute best with pieces that have recently been seen on the runway.

Infinity Scarves

For a chunky scarf that works as the focal point of any outfit, infinity scarves are a sophisticated way for both men and women to add extra detail to their top. The item can easily be paired with a snug beanie and an oversized sweater for the season. It’s a modern take on the traditional style of a wrap scarf and will even stay in place while you’re on the go.

Fingerless Gloves

To keep your hands warm and enjoy a new take on a common fall accessory, fingerless gloves are a popular item to wear for a product that still offers mobility. From texting to typing, fingerless gloves allow you to perform everyday activities while still staying warm when traveling outdoors.

Over-the-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee boots are a chic and feminine shoe style that can be worn with various styles of outfits in the fall. For formal events, the boots can be paired with a pleated skirt or dress for a shoe that goes up to the thigh. They can also be worn with ripped jeans for an everyday look that creates a cool street style.

Floppy Brim Fedora

The floppy brim fedora is one of the more popular accessories to wear this season for a vogue look that nods to the 1960s. The hat is casual yet formal enough to wear with different outfits for an urban look that offers a bit of edge. Choose a fedora that comes in a warm color to embrace the fall season. Opt for taupe, burgundy, black, or evergreen shades.

When it comes to choosing your fall fashion for the season, it’s important to accessorize with the most popular items available to ensure that your look isn’t bland or basic. Each piece will add more to your wardrobe and will allow you to stand out with trendy items that make a statement.

Happy Movember!

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

Happy MovemberIt is that time of year again when moustaches rule – the month of Movember. Movember was created by the Movember Foundation which encourages men to grow moustaches in an effort to bring awareness to men’s health as well as to fund research or treatment for prostate and testicular cancer. The organization’s vision is to deliver the message in a fun, unique manner.

Movember Rules

Movember has official rules which can be found on the foundation’s website. The first rule is that participants must sign up on the site to become a “Mo Bro” and begin the first of November with a clean-shaven face. For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache and only a moustache. They may not grow beards, goatees or use fake moustaches. As people ask why they are growing such a rich, luscious moustache, each Mo Bro is supposed to begin a conversation on men’s health. In addition, Mo Bro’s are asked to raise money in some manner to help prevent or develop cures for prostate and testicular cancer. Lastly, each Mo Bro must behave as a true gentleman.

Fund Raising Events

There are many options for fund raising during Movember. One suggestion on the website is to plan a Mo Party. Those who choose to host a Mo Party can register on the site and receive a free Mo Party pack in order to raise funds and encourage others to participate in Movember. Some areas have created running of the Mo’s, events that bring Mo Bros and Mo Sistas together. Many other running events are planned throughout the country to promote Movember as well. Shave the Date is the official start to Movember, where participants shave their faces in order to begin growing their Movember ‘stache. Although November 1 is the official Shave the Date, events can be held throughout the month for those who don’t mind getting a late start.

Grooming the Stache

Participating in Movember does not mean growing a big lump of hair under your nose that is unruly and unkempt. The moustache should be well-groomed and tidy, although it should draw attention to the man sporting it. The moustache should be shampooed regularly as bits of food can collect in it which no one really wants to have happen. Work in a tiny bit of conditioner as moustache hair is course. A soft, hot towel is perfect for cleansing the skin under the moustache to avoid drying and itching.

Choose the moustache style from the beginning and be sure to invest in the right tools for the job, such as barber scissors, clippers and fine-toothed combs. Beauty Bridge have everything you need to make your moustache part of a very Happy Movember!

Skincare Benefits of Pumpkin

Skincare Benefits of PumpkinWhen most people think of pumpkins, they think of all the delicious foods they can make in the kitchen. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin breads, and pumpkin soup are just a few of the wonderful dishes many love to enjoy. Others might think of the fall, pumpkin patches, jack-o-lanterns and roasted pumpkin seeds. However, there is a little beauty secret behind the orange shell. Pumpkins are excellent for the skin! Who knew? Many cosmetics brands know and incorporate pumpkin into their exfoliating masks and lotions. There are lots of different ways to use pumpkin on the skin and produce a glowing complexion. Listed below are a few ways pumpkins can help give anyone gorgeous, glowing and flawless skin.

1. Erases Blemishes

For those who are acne-prone, the struggle with blemishes is all too familiar. It can be very frustrating to deal with the everlasting effect of a pimple. Unsightly scars and pimples may seem like they will never go away, but they can. It is best to apply pumpkin to the face once the pimple is on its way out. This will help diminish the potential for scarring and more pimples. Vitamin E, which is found in pumpkins, is notorious for providing relief and healing effects to the skin.

2. Controls Oily Skin

When applied as a paste or a mask on the skin, pumpkin can have a positive effect for those who struggle with oily skin. Due to the amount of zinc found in pumpkins, they hold the ability to absorb a lot of the excess oil on the skin and prevent excess production.

3. Eliminates Dry Skin

People who suffer from dry skin have a difficult time with exfoliating the dead skin cells. Pumpkin naturally completes the exfoliation of the skin. There are natural enzymes as well as really strong antioxidants found such as beta-carotene. Alpha hydroxy acids are also found and can soothe dry skin tremendously. Antioxidants such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C add more nutrients to the skin and soften dry skin as well. The application of pumpkin isn’t just for the face. Those with dry and cracked hands and feet can really benefit from applying a mask to those areas as well. This is primarily because pumpkin holds the ability to hydrate and soften the rough, dry skin so well.

These are just a few of the many different ways that pumpkin can adequately benefit the skin. The next time a pesky pimple rears its ugly head, head for the grocery store and grab the best pumpkin available!

The Beauty of Cleansing Oils

Saturday, October 18th, 2014

The Beauty of Cleansing OilsAny beautician will attest to the benefits of cleansing oils for skin care. They contain a broad range of healthy antioxidants, can relieve specific skin conditions and have incredible moisturizing properties. They are also exceptional for cleaning skin without clogging pores, a serious issue with most soaps and other cleansing products.

Methods for Cleansing with Oil

  1. Select an oil suited to your skin type.
  2. Run yourself a nice steamy bath and get a clean wash cloth.
  3. Place eight to 10 drops in your palm and rub it carefully between the palms to warm the cleansing oil.
  4. Massage the oil thoroughly into the skin. You want to remove all traces of sebum and makeup impurities. Perform the act for no less than two minutes.
  5. Dip the wash cloth into the steamy water. Do not ring out water. Instead drape it across your face.
  6. After the wash cloth cools, gently pat away excess oil.
  7. Repeat the process up to five times or until your skin feels clear of oil and impurities.
  8. Tone and moisturize.

Choosing a Cleansing Oil

Talk with a beautician or other skin care specialist about how to determine what cleansing oil is best for your situation. Still, here are a few of the best oil cleansers and moisturizers for cleaning skin and effectively combatting issues like acne.

Argan Cleansing Oil

Besides not clogging pores, argan oil is a sound solution for preventing stretch marks and restoring skin elasticity, rehydrating skin and regenerating skin cells. It’s helpful in the reduction of brown spots and acne. It also provides a healthy dose of Vitamin E, which is great for skin care.

Coconut Cleansing Oil

It’s important to note that despite its benefits, coconut oil can clog pores. You should test it for a couple of days before deciding if it is the best cleansing option for your skin. Otherwise, it has exemplary moisturizing, anti-microbial, antiseptic and anti-aging properties. Coconut oil also provides a pleasant soothing and softening feel to the skin and touch.

Jojoba Cleansing Oil

Jojoba is a popular cleansing ingredient because it is similar to the natural oil that skin produces. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, helping to balance acne and oily skin. Great for dry skin as well, it treats skin infections and doesn’t clog pores.

They say oil and water don’t mix. That doesn’t apply when it comes to caring for your skin. Cleansing oil and water is an ideal solution for even the most problematic skin.

Anti-aging Tips By AgeLet’s face it, we all get older. You can kick, cry, and scream that you don’t want to say good-bye to your youthful appearance, but that won’t stop the calendar from moving forward. However, by taking a proactive approach and starting an anti-aging routine when you’re young, you can hold on to those youthful years just a little bit longer. We’ve taken the liberty of breaking out simple routines based on age to help you get started.

- If you’re in your 20′s
Lucky you to still have a youthful face. However, that youth can also be a curse if you don’t take the time to think about anti-aging. Right now you should be wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to save yourself a lot of grief later one. Additionally, skip the tanning beds. Self tanners are getting better than ever and they won’t give you wrinkles.

- If you’re in your 30′s
While in your 30′s, water may quickly become your best friend. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the easiest ways to keep skin looking young. In addition, make sure that you’re using a daily moisturizer and taking plenty of vitamin D (at least 1,000 IUs per day).

- If you’re in your 40′s
Anti-aging in your 40′s isn’t just about healthy skin; it’s also about a healthy you. Be sure that you’re eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and cut back on the processed sugar. Regular exercise will also give you a healthy glow. If you haven’t started yet, then it’s time to use retinol to minimize fine lines around your eyes.

- If you’re in your 50′s
This can be a busy age where sleep takes a back seat to higher priorities, but this will wreak havoc on your skin. Make sure you carve at least 8 hours of shuteye a night for yourself. Additionally, consider start using hyaluronic acid if you’re noticing fine lines around your mouth; this product will help hide them.

- If you’re in your 60′s
Starting to worry about anti-aging in your 60′s isn’t too little too late; after all, it’s never too late to start taking proper care of your skin. At this age, the right eye make up can hide drooping eyelids and use products with white or green tea extracts to help fight swelling. Additionally, check that the air in your home isn’t too dry; the lack of moisture is bad for your skin.

Health and Beauty Benefits of Nutmeg

Thursday, October 9th, 2014

Health and Beauty Benefits of NutmegMost people are familiar with nutmeg as a common kitchen spice. However, few people realize that its benefits go far beyond making tasty treats. Nutmeg is also has potent benefits for health and beauty. Here are just a few of the things you can try it for.

Tooth Pain

If you’re experiencing tooth pain, it’s strongly advised that you see your dentist. However, you can’t always get to the dentist right away. In that case, you can temporarily control the pain by placing some nutmeg oil or powder on the affected tooth. Eugenol, a substance also found in cloves, will numb the area for a time. This can keep you more comfortable until you can make a dentist appointment.

Even Complexion

Are you looking for a natural, inexpensive way to enhance your complexion? If so, just combine honey and powdered nutmeg into a paste and rub it gently onto your skin. Within days, you’ll notice a clearer complexion and reduced appearance of acne scars. Furthermore, nutmeg contains powerful antiseptic properties that can help prevent additional breakouts caused by bacteria.

Preventing Tooth Decay

Clear skin isn’t the only thing nutmeg’s antiseptic properties are good for. It can also help prevent tooth decay through the same action. Eugenol is highly toxic to the harmful oral bacteria that eat away at tooth enamel, which is why it’s so often added to toothpastes. However, you can get the same effect just by sprinkling a little nutmeg powder onto your toothbrush during your regular brushing routine.

Digestive Aid

You’ve enjoyed a big meal of pizza with drinks and dessert, and now you’re bloated and it feels like your dinner is just sitting in your stomach. This happens to everyone occasionally, especially when overindulgence in unhealthy foods is involved. Fortunately, nutmeg offers an easy and delicious solution to these problems. The spice has been used for thousands of years as a digestive tonic to relieve gas, indigestion, bloating and heartburn. One easy way to use nutmeg for this purpose is to steep a quarter teaspoon of the powder in a cup of hot water and drink it as a tea.

Nail Fungus

Nail fungus is a common problem that affects millions of people, but that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing or unsightly. Furthermore, these fungal infections can be notoriously difficult to treat, and many over-the-counter drugs have unreliable effects. If you’ve tried other treatments only to have them fail, give nutmeg a try. It contains a number of potent antifungal compounds that can help thwart stubborn nail fungus.

With all of the things nutmeg can do, it’s no wonder that it’s long been one of the world’s most prized spices. Try adding it to your daily health regimen and beauty routine to take advantage of its numerous benefits.
