DIY Table Decorations

DIY Table DecorationsCelebrations are sometimes planned way in advance. In those situations it is very easy to spend time making sure everything is perfect before guests arrive. But sometimes holiday and party preparations are an impulsive thing. One thing that can make a spur of the moment party memorable is a great set of table decorations.

A good place to start is with the flowers. Good floral arrangements can brighten up any table. All you have to do is find a suitable container for them. The good news is if you have a kitchen, you have a whole room full of containers for just about everything. How about some coffee cans with the labels removed? If you can find some pastel or metallic paint, a set of coffee cans can make great ad-hoc vases for your floral decorations.

If you are scheduling a dinner party, cloth napkins will give the meal class. Slick looking napkin holders will make the table look distinguished. How about a bow? If a nice gift can be presented with a festive bow, so can your holiday table’s cloth napkins. If you take the time to make sure the colors complement the rest of the decorations, this idea can really make your table shine.

With a little time and planning, you can take wreaths, hurricane vases and candles and turn your centerpiece into a conversation piece. A green wreath and pine cones surrounding shining clean vases containing large wide red candles will put your guests in a festive mood without putting much stress on your holiday preparations. These kinds of decorations combined with poinsettias, red ribbons as napkin holders and a suitably patterned tablecloth will put your design over the top.

Decorating is far more an art than a science, and that means the results matter much more than the tools utilized to achieve them. Almost anything can be marshaled into a well-presented decorative design, provided you see the table as a place to express your celebratory spirit and make sure your decorations are combined with your overall party preparations to match. Less is very often more, and when decorations work, they make everything more fun.

Flawless Foundation Application Tips

Thursday, November 27th, 2014

Flawless Foundation Application TipsOne of the most important cosmetics to apply to the face is foundation. It works to create an even canvas for all your other makeup. The product should appear natural and hide any imperfections that may distract from your other makeup. To apply foundation like a professional and make it look flawless, follow these tried and true steps.

Begin with Primer

Beauty experts recommend applying a liquid primer product to the skin before foundation is used to ensure that the product lasts throughout the day. It will create a smooth base and will also minimize open pores or wrinkles. For those with oily skin, the primer should mostly be applied to the t-zone to reduce shine.

Use a Brush

For a professional finish to your skin, apply the makeup with a brush and begin working it on the center of the forehead before moving outward. The dry side of the brush can be used to blend excess foundation that can look too heavy or caked on. Use smooth, swift motions with the brush for even application. You can also use your fingers to apply the foundation, which will warm the product with your body temperature and will create an even finish.

Don’t Forget Concealer

After your foundation is applied, it’s important to use a flat concealer brush to apply liquid or cream concealer to hide any blemishes or darkness under the eyes and sides of the nose.  Avoid applying it on wrinkles, which can make them appear more pronounced.

Blend with a Sponge

To create an airbrushed glow to your skin, use a small sponge to even out each area of the face to ensure that the product is pulled and spread evenly. Work it into the jawline and neck for an even blend.

Set the Foundation with Loose Powder

To finish off the foundation and make it last all day, apply loose powder and set it with a dense brush. Excess powder can be brushed off by lightly sweeping the skin with the brush. Translucent powder should be used to prevent changing the color of your skin tone.

Holiday Makeup Looks That Wow!
The holiday season is near and the air will soon be filled with frost, fun, and dancing sugar plums. Nothing is better than wearing oversized sweaters and roasting chestnuts on an open fire, warming yourself inside from the chilly weather. A new season means a new style, so what better way to celebrate than with the perfect makeup looks of the year! Are you the belle of the ball or a jingle bell rock and roll girl? These two makeup styles cover up your frosty cheeks and bring out your inner holiday spirit!

Sophisticated and Seasonal

First, use your favorite primer and foundation as desired. Then, use Too Faced’s La Belle Caroousel in the color named Frost and lightly brush just under the arch of your eyebrow. This gives your brow a nice highlight. Next, use the eyeshadow color Tin Soldier on the ends of your eyelids to better define your eye shape. Then, brush the color Santa’s Boots in the crease and on the edge of your eyelids for a smokey chimney feel. Use your desired mascara to finish it off. If you wish, use Rilastil’s Terra Duo Bronzing Powder. It not only gives your cheekbones definition, but it emphasizes your unique face shape. This completes your first look.

Sassy and Sweet

The next style gives you a bit more of a pop! Once again, use your best primer and foundation. Cover your entire eyelid in Too Faced’s eyeshadow color Frost. Brush the color Christmas Tree on the outer side of your eyelid. Then, use a Beautyblender and slowly and carefully blend the green color into the white. This should create a nice gradient that draws the attention right to your beautiful eyes. Finish the eyes with mascara to further accentuate your look. Use Too Faced’s Under the Mistletoe lipstick in the color Marshmallow Bunny to add shimmer and sparkle to your completed makeup style. Your lips will be irresistible to anyone near a branch of mistletoe. Finally, use Lippmann nail polish in red to complete your fabulous makeup with a seasonal color scheme.

‘Tis The Season for Sassy Makeup!

These looks are ideal for any occasion such as sleigh rides, parties, building a snowman, and decorating your home. All the products mentioned above are available online at beautybridge.com. May your holidays be magical!

Calorie conscious Thanksgiving desserts!

Calorie conscious Thanksgiving dessertsSave your dessert calories this Thanksgiving season!

There is no doubt that the first thing that comes to mind during the holiday season is the opportunity to share with loved ones. Yet, the holidays are also notorious for our indulgence with scrumptious dishes. Still, are plenty of ways to indulge and save some calories in the process. Here are some ideas that may help you be less calorie conscious even when consuming those delicious Thanksgiving desserts.

Rule 1- Combine and save! Before slicing that pecan pie into a huge triangle, cut that same slice in half. Fix your dessert dish with at least 6 tbsp. of low-calorie whipped cream and add fruit to your plate. Sprinkle the fruit with a natural sugar alternative such as Stevia, or Truvia. You will be surprised how the different flavors combine to fully satisfy your sugar craving without leaving you buzzed out.

Rule 2- Make protein your dessert! Try something new this year: substitute bread and starchy desserts with creamy, milky and savory ones. A very popular savory dessert is cheesecake. Yes, cheesecake! A protein cheesecake recipe calls for:
• 12oz Fat Free Philadelphia Cream Cheese
• 1 container of plain Greek yogurt
• 2 Whole Eggs
• 1-2 tbs (or more) of alternative natural sweetener
• ¼ Cup Milk or coconut milk
• 1.5 Scoops of whey protein, or almond flour
• 1tsp Vanilla Extract
• Dash Salt
You can add fruit and whipped toppings and make it a dessert to remember.

Rule 3- Make mini-desserts! Rather than baking huge pies and cakes, why not make miniatures that everyone can share and enjoy? You can sample two mini desserts for the same calories as one big one, and still get the most out of it without overspending your calorie budget. Jell-O shots with fruit inside make great mini desserts. Just make your gelatin as you normally do, add fruit, and chill. Serve in individual mini containers or chill them individually prior to serving in mini muffin wrappers. Add whipped cream before serving, and enjoy!

Rule 4- MINT! MINT! MINT! – Make a liquid dessert that also helps to tame a crazy tummy! Warm, mint lemonades flavored with alternative natural sweeteners make a delicious alternative, especially with a dash of milk or whipped cream melting inside. At neatly zero calories, this refreshing and calming drink will make your tummy much happier than eating a whole pumpkin pie.
Do not forget: Minty sherberts also make great palate cleansers. Using nothing but shaved ice, mint flavoring and alternative sweeteners, this dessert is sure to be a hit to remember.

You can have it all and eat it too! Just be wise about portions and ingredients, and have yourself a happy holiday season!

Best Times For Holiday Shopping

Best Times For Holiday ShoppingWith Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the holiday shopping season is drawing near. When it comes to purchasing gifts for those in your life that mean the most, finding the perfect gift can be tricky and time consuming. While some items on your list will be better bought closer to the actual holiday, others might be bargain deals you want to rush out to get on Black Friday, and still others will be best purchased somewhere between those two time periods.

Black Friday: Gadgets, Gizmos, and Good Shelf Life Items

If you’re purchasing bulky or more expensive items such as electronics or designer fashion products you might want to consider getting them early so you can get the best prices on these items. While there are the obvious Black Friday purchases such as television sets and MP3 players, even items such as cosmetic sets or designer jeans can be good Black Friday bargains for the savvy saving shopper.

Early to Mid December: Stock Up On Stocking Stuffers

Smaller gifts and stocking stuffers are often something that can be put off until the last minute, but in order to avoid sold-out shelves and the scramble to replace the perfect gift with a not-so-perfect substitute, you’ll want to buy some of these items earlier. Soap and shower sets, a bottle of wine, or even decadent chocolates can be a great gift to stick in somebody’s stocking for the occasion, and can even make a great gift for an office friend or colleague. But since it does make such common gifts they’re likely to sell out early. That’s why shopping ahead of time is in your best interest.

Last Minute Gifts: Filler Items and Gifts With Expiration Dates

While you don’t want to wait until the last minute to do all your shopping, there are certain gifts for which it is acceptable, if not encouraged. For instance, a wine and cheese basket, floral arrangements, and baked goods are all items that are going to have very limited lifespans. These are things you’ll definitely want to get or order for delivery within just a day or two of the Holiday. And, despite our best efforts, we all have also been in the situation of swinging by the store for a few last-minute filler gifts such as lotion sets or gift cards.

No matter when you’re planning to do your shopping, making a game plan ahead of time is always in your best interest. With a plan and these guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to a successful, stress free shopping season!

Get Your Body Ready for the Holidays

Monday, November 10th, 2014

As the holiday seasons approach, this means the approach of gooey chocolate and caramel candies, Christmas punch, office parties, kid’s treats, and just about every tempting goodie mankind can produce. For those who love to indulge in the holiday taste treats but also want to not gain the pounds, you can prepare your body for the holidays to get the best of both worlds.

Get Your Body Ready for the Holidays

Weight Supplements

There are many types of natural supplements that you can take to help relieve the bloating and weight gain that often accompanies the holiday season. Here are a few of the better weight management supplements that are actually effective:
• Green tea
• Fennel
• Chickweed

Other types of supplements may work by stimulating your adrenal system and boosting your energy to burn more calories. SeroVital – hgh Dietery Supplement is just such a product. This product will also enhance your natural muscle tone, so it will help lessen those unsightly holiday bulges.
When using supplements, it’s important to remember that they can take several weeks to be noticeable. You may want to start your supplement regiment about six weeks before the holidays roll around for best effect.

Get Up and Move

Long before you begin the rounds of Christmas and New Year’s parties, start a regular exercise program. This need only be 30 minutes a day, walking around the block if necessary. If you know that you will be increasing your consumption of calories, you must also increase burning those calories or they get stored as fat.
Turn marathon shopping into exercise. Walk the dog more often. Incorporate salsa dance moves while you’re cooking. Whatever it is, as long as you’re moving, you can help fight bloating and weight gain. Even better, exercise, thanks to the tasty dopamines and endorphins it produces, makes you feel happier. And what could be needed more during a holiday season?

Skip the Caffeine

Yes, coffee, tea, soda and other drinks high in caffeine are tasty and they do give a quick burst of energy. Unfortunately, you pay for that quick fix later when your energy levels crash. A better option for a quick pick me up is either vitamin B tablets or a protein snack. These two options can help you feel zestier and they won’t cause the crash later on.

By preparing carefully, you don’t have to skip the dessert trays because your jeans are a bit snug. Plan ahead and prepare your body for the holidays and you can have your cake and eat it too!

Skincare Benefits of Oxygen

Saturday, November 8th, 2014

Skincare Benefits of OxygenCells need oxygen to survive, and skin cells are no different. The unfortunate effects of smothering skin under layers of makeup– or, even worse, sleeping with makeup on– are well known, but it turns out that topically applying skin can help it stay fresh, youthful, and healthy.

Oxygen was first found to help heal people with severe burns. Oxygen gas, which is naturally present in a stable, bonded form, helps increase cell turnover and speeds up cellular metabolism. This makes it helpful for anyone that wants to maintain healthy skin.

Oxygen Therapy vs. Oxidative Damage

Oxygen isn’t always friendly to skin. Oxidative stress, an imbalance between reactive forms of oxygen and the body’s ability to neutralize them, leads to free radical damage. This damage is partially associated with signs of aging, including dull, sagging, and wrinkled skin. Oxygen therapy doesn’t contribute to this kind of skin damage, since is uses stable diatomic oxygen molecules rather than unstable, unpaired oxygen atoms.

How Oxygen Is Delivered to Skin

Hospitals have access to oxygen tents and gas tanks, but these aren’t remotely practical for home use. Fortunately there are skincare products containing oxygen on the market that offer it in a stabilized liquid form, which converts to oxygen gas once the product is applied. This lets users get the benefit of fresh, oxygenated skin without having to resort to gas tanks and expensive trips to specialty spas.

Antioxidants and Oxygen

Much has been made of antioxidants when it comes to fighting aging and preventing free radical damage. One of the benefits of using skincare products that contain oxygen is that they can be combined with antioxidants like vitamin E, botanical ingredients, or other compounds that have their own skin-saving virtues. In the end, it’s possible to get the best of both worlds– improved skin health with oxygen, and prevention of free radical damage.

Maintaining healthy skin means protecting it from damage and providing all of the nutrients it needs, including oxygen. By thoroughly cleansing skin every night to remove oxygen-blocking debris and clear out pores, and applying oxygen-containing skincare products afterward, you can have a brighter, clearer, more youthful complexion.

Must Have Fall Fashion Accessories

Wednesday, November 5th, 2014

Must Have Fall Fashion AccessoriesThe fall season is the time to bundle up in warm attire and enjoy feeling cozy to ward off the chill of the lower temperatures outside. Although it’s easy to hide in oversized coats and thick boots, there are a number of accessories to wear that will dress up your clothes and allow you to look current with the latest trends. Instead of feeling frumpy, you can feel your absolute best with pieces that have recently been seen on the runway.

Infinity Scarves

For a chunky scarf that works as the focal point of any outfit, infinity scarves are a sophisticated way for both men and women to add extra detail to their top. The item can easily be paired with a snug beanie and an oversized sweater for the season. It’s a modern take on the traditional style of a wrap scarf and will even stay in place while you’re on the go.

Fingerless Gloves

To keep your hands warm and enjoy a new take on a common fall accessory, fingerless gloves are a popular item to wear for a product that still offers mobility. From texting to typing, fingerless gloves allow you to perform everyday activities while still staying warm when traveling outdoors.

Over-the-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee boots are a chic and feminine shoe style that can be worn with various styles of outfits in the fall. For formal events, the boots can be paired with a pleated skirt or dress for a shoe that goes up to the thigh. They can also be worn with ripped jeans for an everyday look that creates a cool street style.

Floppy Brim Fedora

The floppy brim fedora is one of the more popular accessories to wear this season for a vogue look that nods to the 1960s. The hat is casual yet formal enough to wear with different outfits for an urban look that offers a bit of edge. Choose a fedora that comes in a warm color to embrace the fall season. Opt for taupe, burgundy, black, or evergreen shades.

When it comes to choosing your fall fashion for the season, it’s important to accessorize with the most popular items available to ensure that your look isn’t bland or basic. Each piece will add more to your wardrobe and will allow you to stand out with trendy items that make a statement.

Happy Movember!

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

Happy MovemberIt is that time of year again when moustaches rule – the month of Movember. Movember was created by the Movember Foundation which encourages men to grow moustaches in an effort to bring awareness to men’s health as well as to fund research or treatment for prostate and testicular cancer. The organization’s vision is to deliver the message in a fun, unique manner.

Movember Rules

Movember has official rules which can be found on the foundation’s website. The first rule is that participants must sign up on the site to become a “Mo Bro” and begin the first of November with a clean-shaven face. For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache and only a moustache. They may not grow beards, goatees or use fake moustaches. As people ask why they are growing such a rich, luscious moustache, each Mo Bro is supposed to begin a conversation on men’s health. In addition, Mo Bro’s are asked to raise money in some manner to help prevent or develop cures for prostate and testicular cancer. Lastly, each Mo Bro must behave as a true gentleman.

Fund Raising Events

There are many options for fund raising during Movember. One suggestion on the website is to plan a Mo Party. Those who choose to host a Mo Party can register on the site and receive a free Mo Party pack in order to raise funds and encourage others to participate in Movember. Some areas have created running of the Mo’s, events that bring Mo Bros and Mo Sistas together. Many other running events are planned throughout the country to promote Movember as well. Shave the Date is the official start to Movember, where participants shave their faces in order to begin growing their Movember ‘stache. Although November 1 is the official Shave the Date, events can be held throughout the month for those who don’t mind getting a late start.

Grooming the Stache

Participating in Movember does not mean growing a big lump of hair under your nose that is unruly and unkempt. The moustache should be well-groomed and tidy, although it should draw attention to the man sporting it. The moustache should be shampooed regularly as bits of food can collect in it which no one really wants to have happen. Work in a tiny bit of conditioner as moustache hair is course. A soft, hot towel is perfect for cleansing the skin under the moustache to avoid drying and itching.

Choose the moustache style from the beginning and be sure to invest in the right tools for the job, such as barber scissors, clippers and fine-toothed combs. Beauty Bridge have everything you need to make your moustache part of a very Happy Movember!
