Summer is time for fun under the sun, but it can be damaging on your hair. If you didn’t take your luscious locks into consideration before you decided to hit the beach, you might already be experiencing sun damage. However, it’s never too late to reverse the effects of ultraviolet rays and keep┬áthem from occurring again in the future.

The first thing you should do once you notice sun damage is get out of direct sunlight! Then, Cosmopolitan magazine recommends deep-conditioning your hair to replenish the moisture it┬álost. To make it silky smooth, apply a leave-in conditioner – preferably one that contains SPF – to get it back to normal.

If you’re fearful of sun damage happening to your hair again, SheKnows encourages you to look at the shampoo and conditioner you’re buying for your hair. Many manufacturers will tell you on the label if they include beneficial SPF. Another option is to cover up your head before you go outside – there are plenty of cute sun hats to be bought and worn! Take these tips into account for maximum protection this summer.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
