Summerize Your Legs Infographics

Were opaque tights your best friend this winter? Tell them to take a hike. Follow this beauty advice and cool your smooth legs by the pool.

  1. Scrub ‘em: Great legs start in the shower. Exfoliate your legs three times a week and use a moisturizing cleanser.
  2. Soak ‘em: To decrease irritation from shaving, give your legs a chance to soak in the tub or shower. Lather on that shaving cream and get to it!
  3. Love ‘em: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. And moisturize again. Did we say moisturize? It’s kid of important. Love your legs. Moisturize.
  4. Tan ‘em: A little color goes a long way. Just a little, though – don’t overdo it. There’s no gold medal for being the most bronze.

Three tips to help you nix body acne

Friday, June 1st, 2012

Body acne doesn't have to be a concern this summer! Now that the weather is starting to warm up, you’ll probably be sweating more than you were in the past few months. According to Allure Magazine, the higher temperatures mean you’ll be producing not only more sweat, but more oil, which increases the chance that your pores will become clogged – resulting in body acne. Here are a few ways you can combat the issue.

1. Use a body wash with salicylic acid. Look for one with at least 1.5 percent, like Murad – Acne Body Wash.

2. Exfoliate on a regular basis. Getting rid of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin will prevent them from clogging up your pores and trapping in bacteria, oil and sweat. Every other day or so, use an exfoliant like Dermalogica – Exfoliating Body Scrub.

3. Use a benzoyl peroxide cream. Just like you would on your face, smooth on a thin layer of an acne treatment cream to stop zits in their tracks.

With these tips, you should notice clearer skin in a couple of weeks – and if you start now, you’ll be ready to rock that bathing suit once summer hits!

How to feel more confident in less clothes

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

There's no reason to feel self-conscious when you're wearing a bikini this summer! With summer almost here, you might be staring at your seasonal wardrobe wondering how you’re going to feel pulling off barely-there bikinis, short shorts and skirts. While frequent exercise is a surefire way to feel more confident, there are ways you can boost your mood when you’re wearing skimpy clothes with skincare products. Here are some ideas.

1. Get on the self-tanning train. A hint of color can help hide imperfections and make you look more toned, reports Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog, so pick up a self-tanner like Too Faced – Tanning Bed In A Tube and get to work!

2. Go for shimmer. A hint of sparkle from a body lotion like GloMinerals – Body Glisten will highlight your favorite areas and leave your skin touchably soft. You won’t even remember why you were feeling hesitant about that bathing suit.

3. Stop cellulite in its tracks. Use a body brush before the shower to smooth out your skin and plump up areas with cellulite to reduce the appearance of the dimples. Then, use a firming cream with caffeine all over. Instant tightness!

Glowing Skin in Winter

How to get the most out of a winter shower

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Your shower habits should change a bit in the winter! It feels great to take a nice, hot shower when you're cold in the winter, but you've probably heard how long, hot showers can dry out your skin. Here are a few tips from BellaSugar.com that you might want to consider next time you hop under the stream.

1. Lower the temperature. You don't have to take a freezing cold shower – just take the heat down a notch so it's warm, not hot.

2. Use a simple, creamy moisturizing body wash, like Dermalogica – Conditioning Body Wash. Gels and other clear washes can dry up your skin in the winter months.

3. Turn off the water while you're sudsing up. This will reduce the amount of heat and steam in the bathroom and limit the drying effects of being exposed to the water.

4. Do a quick cold rinse before you step out. This will not only wake you up a bit, but it will tighten your pores.

5. While you're still a bit wet after the shower, use a lotion like Caswell-Massey – Almond & Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion with Silk all over your body. It will soak in better on damp skin.

Bring in 2012 with a few beauty resolutions

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Make a few of these New Year's beauty resolutions! There’s nothing quite like New Years to bring out the best in people. Everyone wants to start off the new year afresh, whether it means amping up your workout routine, vowing to cut down on your chocolate intake or even to take a few more risks in life. If you’re already creating a list of resolutions for 2012, you might want to include a few beauty-related tasks to ensure that your skin, nails, hair and body get the treatment they deserve. Here are some ideas to consider, inspired by The Beauty Department.

1. Wear sunscreen. Every. Single. Day. Although many women have been bombarded by the media when it comes to how damaging the sun’s rays are, that hasn’t stopped some from skipping the sunscreen. Ensure the protection of your skin by slathering it on in the morning as part of your routine – not just before you’re going to the beach. Makeup like Dermablend – Cover Creme SPF 30 will ensure that you’re getting coverage in more ways than one.

2. Fake it, don’t bake it. If you’re still heading to the tanning bed to get your glow on, cut it out already! Tanning beds are no safer than the sun, and some experts argue that they can do even more damage since you’re receiving direct exposure. Get a faux bronze look by using self-tanners like TanTowel – Self-Tan Towelette. These make the application process a breeze and they won’t leave any tell-tale streaks.

3. Exfoliate at least once a week. Getting rid of dead skin cells is the key to a glowing complexion that’s not dull or flaky. Use an exfoliating scrub for your face once or twice a week, and a rich scrub for your body in the shower. Get Fresh – SPA Sugar Body Scrub is the perfect treat.

4. Find your signature scent. There’s nothing like a fresh fragrance to remind people of you even when you’re not around, but it’s not possible if you’re always switching up your perfume. Take the time to find out what smells best on you, then invest in a few different products in the scent to ensure that you’re always exuding the aroma.

5. Don’t go to sleep without taking off your makeup. Leaving makeup on while you’re in bed at night is never a good idea. Your pores can become clogged, leading to acne, irritation and an overall messy complexion. Even if you’re too tired to wash it all off, keep a stash of wipes near your bed and use it to gently remove any product. Rilastil – Daily Care Make-Up Removing Wipes are the perfect thing.

6. Clean out your collection. Now’s the perfect time to go through your medicine cabinet, makeup bag and toiletry stash and get rid of anything old. Most products have an expiration date on them, but if you can’t remember when you got it, it’s definitely worth tossing. Expired products won’t work as well and could cause problems for your skin if you continue to use them.

7. Embrace your hair’s natural texture. Your strands could use a break from heat tools every now and then, so you should become comfortable with your hair’s natural state. That doesn’t mean you have to skip products altogether – a great anti-frizz serum like Leonor Greyl – Serum de Soie Sublimateur can do wonders.

8. Stop biting your nails. Every now and then, we all slip up and go to town nibbling that pesky jagged edge or hangnail – but you have to stop! Carry a nail file in your bag for on-the-go fixes and keep your nails polished and cute so you won’t feel the urge to bite them.

As long as you incorporate some or all of these beauty resolutions, 2012 should be your most beautiful year yet!

Why you should be cleaning up after each gym session

Monday, December 19th, 2011

It's crucial to clean up after your gym session! If hitting the gym more often is on your to-do list for the new year, good for you. It's important to get plenty of exercise to keep yourself happy and healthy, but you don't want to sacrifice your skin in the process.

Working up a sweat is definitely a good thing, but it's not a good idea to let it stick around for long. If you don't shower or change right away after exercising, your skin is left to sit in oily moisture. It won't be able to breathe much, which may result in clogged pores and irritation.

Remedy this by showering as soon as you can right after your workout. If your gym doesn't have showers, just get home as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you might want to clean yourself up a bit with Dermalogica – The Sponge Cloth. You'll get rid of dirt and grime with just a few wipes. In the shower, use a purifying wash, like June Jacobs – Grapefruit Purifying Shower Gel. You'll feel refreshed, energized and, of course, clean!
