What scent reminds you most of the season?

What scent reminds you most of the season?Wardrobes and makeup hues change with the seasons, and by all means, your fragrances should too! There’s no better time than the warm-weather seasons to break out a whole new palette of fresh, fruity spring and summertime scents.

For some people, nothing denotes spring better than the heady aroma of lilac. These delicious purple blooms can be seen bursting forth everywhere at around this time every year, and decking yourself out in a sweet lilac scent may only further magnify the experience.

According to the Star Tribune, citrus scents in particular are set to be a big ordeal this summer.

“Warmer weather calls for a lighter, fresher fragrance,” the news source reports. “Even if you’re not normally a fan of fruity scents, consider the new citrus cocktails: blood orange, tangerine and grapefruit laced with earthier elements like musk, sandalwood and white moss. The resulting scents are more sophisticated, less syrupy-sweet.”

No matter what your note of preference, looking to your environment for fragrant inspiration is always a winning choice.

Getting to know the perfume of your dreams

Monday, April 11th, 2011

Getting to know the perfume of your dreamsSome things work as impulse buys. Saw a neat nail polish shade you can’t wait to try? If it costs less than your lunch did today, chances are it can’t hurt to throw it in with the rest of your purchases. But this is one mode of being that doesn’t always work out for the best, especially for things like perfume and cologne..

On one hand, your sense of smell registers an immediate impact. On the other hand, fragrances are dynamic and evolving, and you can’t be sure that the immediate impression you get from a perfume will be the one you’ll get at the end of a day.

“Perfume changes over the course of a wear, sometimes enormously,” reports. “So that eau de toilette you loved at first spray may smell more like eau de toilet bowl cleanser five or six hours on.”

Wondering how you’ll know if you’ve found the one? Give yourself some time to browse the department stores, sampling only one fragrance at a time. Spray it on your wrists and neck and leave the store, making note of how it smells at various points throughout the day.

Once you’ve found a scent that you love in all of its incarnations, you’ll know it’s worth the buy – and it’ll make buying perfume easier in the future, since you’ll know what kind of notes you like.

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Kate Walsh's perfume for women inspired by menIt is often assumed that women will gravitate toward feminine fragrances, potions filled with sweet floral notes. However, when creating her new perfume, Kate Walsh drew inspiration from a surprising source – her boyfriend.

"I was inspired by my boyfriend's scent many years ago," the Private Practice star told People magazine. "I missed his scent after we broke up and I was shopping one day and I was like, 'I don't need my boyfriend to have a boyfriend scent!'"

While the news source reports the fragrance includes typically feminine elements such as vanilla and amber, it also has more masculine notes of wood and musk. Walsh added that she wanted the perfume to remind her of Ralph Lauren Polo, the cologne worn by her first boyfriend.

"I remember going out in high school and coming home and smelling our clothes because the boys wore so much of it that our clothes would smell like it," Walsh told the publication. "…When you associate a smell with something, you have an immediate memory."

While Walsh's fragrance, Boyfriend, won't be available until November, ladies who prefer a more masculine scent can spritz themselves with a bit of Ralph Lauren Polo.

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Women can wear men's fragrancesWith a new season approaching, it’s not uncommon for women to put down their previously worn perfumes in favor of a fresh fragrance. And, now that autumn is almost here, ladies may be looking for a brand new scent.

Instead of shopping solely in the women’s department, however, why not dabble in the world’s of men’s fragrances? According to industry experts, the idea may not be that out-there.

“It’s like wearing your boyfriend’s shirt or his Rolex,” industry expert Frédéric Malle told Allure magazine. “The paradox is that it makes a woman more feminine.”

Designer (and perfumer) Tom Ford agrees. “Ultimately, choosing a scent is personal and primal, and should be decided not by gender, but by inhaling and asking, ‘Does it smell good to me? Does it smell good on me?'” he told the news source.

Women looking for a masculine fragrance have a plethora of options available to them, including scents from Tom Ford’s line, such as Grey Vetiver For Men Eau de Parfum Spray, which contains notes of grapefruit, sage and woods.

Ladies can also spritz on Armani Code For Men Eau de Toilette Spray before they head out the door. The fragrance boasts hints of citrus and olive tree blossom.ADNFCR-3538-ID-19939019-ADNFCR

Experts recommend perfect summertime scents

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Experts recommend perfect summertime scentsMost women have their own strategies for picking their signature scent – some ladies prefer warm vanilla-based fragrances, while others opt for clean floral sprays. But when summertime rolls around, gals may want to switch their perfume to coincide with the hot season.

According to experts at Allure, citrus notes smell so fresh because they evaporate after approximately 10 minutes, making them a popular choice for summer scents. To increase longevity, women should look for citrus fragrances combined with florals.

While light aromas may be most popular, they are certainly not the only option for warm-weather scents. The news source reports that women can embrace deeper fragrances by selecting a woody scent with milky undertones, like CK One, by Calvin Klein, which has notes of nutmeg, musk and fresh pineapple.

Those who prefer natural scents can dab on perfumes that boast classic summertime notes. L`Occitane Jasmine Eau de Parfum is a light floral formula that is sure to conjure memories of seasons passed, while CLEAN Fresh Laundry for Women Eau de Parfum Spray includes notes of rose and freshly cut grass.ADNFCR-3538-ID-19883968-ADNFCR
