Look Your Best with Little Time: 10 Minute Hairstyle Hacks

Look Your Best with Little Time: 10 Minute Hairstyle HacksDuring the busy work week, there’s often little time for regular hair care. Despite this, you likely still want to look your best! Fortunately, there are several different methods and hairstyles that can keep you looking fresh and pretty, even when your time is limited. Below are three hairstyles and two hairstyle hacks to get your hair together in ten minutes or less!

10 Minute Beach Waves

Beach waves in ten minutes? It doesn’t sound possible, but fortunately, it is!

To get beach-worthy tresses in ten minutes, simply wet your hair (or use this method immediately after your shower). Next, flip your hair upside down and pat-dry so that it is not drenched, but damp. Apply a shape-boosting mousse, scrunching the hair upwards while your head is still tipped. Once the mousse is applied, flip your head back over. Attach a diffuser to your blow-dryer and then use low-heat to shake and scrunch as you dry for about five minutes.

Tease your hair, give it a good shake, and complete those beautiful waves with a flower or a headband.

Dressed Up Side Braid

The side braid is a go-to style for those of us who don’t have enough time to go all out, but dressing it up makes it even more cute and classy!

After pulling all of your hair to one side, braid it from the back to the ends. Secure the bottom with a ribbon and then on the opposite side of where the braid lies, pin in a pretty flower that matches the ribbon.

Sock Bun Spin-Off

The sock bun is very sleek and sophisticated, but you can make it more casual using these quick tips.

First, try the easier twist on the sock bun. Brush all of the tangles out of your hair, then put it in a high or low pony (the higher the pony, the higher your bun).

Next, cut the tip (toe area) off of an old, clean sock. Roll the sock up so that it looks like a doughnut. Pull the “doughnut” over your pony, like you’re putting a scrunchie on.

Then, flip your head upside down and let your hair fall over the sock to create a doughnut shape. Secure the hair in place with an additional rubber band.

Braid the hair that is remaining and then wrap it around the bun and secure with bobby pins.

To make the look a little less “clean,” pull some face-framing strands around the edges and around the back of the bun. You can also tease the hair at the scalp to add a little more volume.

Quick Tips for Dry or Greasy Hair

Greasy hair? No problem!
Add a small amount of baby powder or dry shampoo to your roots to soak up that extra oil. Then, put your hair in a high pony or a messy bun to further conceal the oils.

Dry hair? Add some moisture!
Spray or drop a small amount of moisture serum on your palm and rub them together. Smooth the serum over your hair and then flat iron only the ends to bring your dry hair back to life.

No matter what’s going on in your life or how much time you have to get ready, these simple hairstyle hacks are an excellent way to look your best with little time!

Eyelash Extensions 101

Friday, May 29th, 2015

Eyelash Extensions 101Several women have been blessed with long and luxurious lashes ever since their first baby picture, others are not so lucky. Some eyelashes have simply failed in the luxurious department. It only takes a quick trip down the makeup isle to figure out just how many products are available for eyelash extension. But here is the “101,” skip the cheap fake eyelashes and go for extensions that look like the real thing.

How do Eyelash Extensions Work?
Eyelash extensions use a medical adhesive to bond each lash to an individual’s original lashes. The process is done one lash at a time in order to create a natural look. Individuals can customize their lashes by choosing length, curling style, color and texture. The process is not a permanent treatment. Eyelash extensions usually last up to six weeks, depending on how well they are cared for.

Shower Beforehand: In order to avoid having the extensions come into contact with water or steam for at least 48 hours, shower before the treatment.

Remove Makeup: Any makeup, such as mascara or foundation, should be removed prior to the appointment. Individuals should also steer clear of lotion, sunscreen or oil, as they can interfere with the adhesive glue.

Keep Lashes Natural: Lashes should be 100 percent natural when receiving extensions. Along with removing mascara, steer clear of any eyelash curling the day of the appointment.

Avoid Condensation: For at least 48 hours, eyelash extensions should be kept away from water or any other form of condensation. Individuals should avoid showering or working out. Also, if someone lives in a humid area, they should stay indoors during the 48 hour period as much as possible.

Do Not Pull: Constantly touching the extensions can easily damage natural lashes. Try to avoid touching, pulling, twisting or curling the lashes. If an individual wants to remove their extensions, they should always seek professional care.

Avoid Moisture-Based Products: Keep shampoos, conditioners, lotions and oils away from the extensions. Any of those products can loosen the effect of the adhesive, making the extensions last for a lesser amount of time.

Remember the Natural Lashes: Do not forget that the natural lashes are still there. Protect them with an eyelash conditioner or growth serum.

Women who were not blessed with the lashes of luxury do not have to settle for second best. Luxury is waiting for those who work for it and even failed lashes can earn a second chance.

Rainbow Hair Trend

Friday, May 8th, 2015

Rainbow Hair TrendOne of the most popular hairstyles to embrace this season is rainbow hair that offers a fun and eclectic look. From purple to pink, there are a number of colors to incorporate into your locks for a style that stands out in a crowd. The most alluring part of the rainbow hair trend is the ability to create a variety of different looks and truly make it your own for a unique design.

The rainbow hair trend is edgy and a bit hardcore for girls who want to get playful with their mane. Celebrities like Kylie Jenner have rocked all-blue hair at Coachella for a mermaid style that is plenty daring. Other stars like Kelly Osbourne and Katy Perry have opted for ombre shades that blend together. Most recently, Julianne Hough dyed her hair all-pink and Hilary Duff swapped her blonde hair for an all-blue shade.

For the girls who are afraid to commit, colored rainbow hair extensions are available for a temporary option that can easily be clipped in. They’re the perfect style when heading out for a concert or spending time by the pool outdoors. The look is increasingly popular after spring’s arrival for a great way to incorporate more colors into your appearance.

Neon colors are also commonly seen and exhibit a bold look that nods to the ’90s. Kesha was recently spotted sporting neon ombre locks while Demi Lovato created a similar style with ombre blue hair that looks similar to the ocean. Some girls are even putting their own twist on rainbow hair by adding gobs of glitter to create an eye-catching design that truly pops.

After coloring the hair a bright shade, it’s important to preserve the dye and prevent it from fading by using professional hair products. It’s crucial to use color care shampoo that is safe on the scalp and will also prevent the hair from becoming brittle or dry due to the harsh chemicals of the dye. Many color care shampoos contain grapeseed oil to properly hydrate and moisturize the hair strands. Investing in the right shampoo will protect the color from fading and will prevent having to get it dyed even sooner just to maintain the look.

Others should invest in a scalp treatment to prevent damage or split ends from occurring due to the harsh chemicals that are used to create the rainbow hair trend. Shea hair masks are considered one of the most effective products on the market by replenishing the moisture of the hair and by offering color maintenance. To ensure that the hair is styled professionally and doesn’t look drab after the rainbow dye, clay pomade is perfect for holding the shape of the style throughout the day.

Easy DIY Wedding Day Updos

Easy DIY Wedding Day UpdosGetting ready for the wedding day is a struggle for all women who want to look their best when they arrive at the ceremony. The bride needs to look perfect when she walks down the aisle, and she can learn from these updos to save money on a hair stylist. The ladies in the bridal party can use these updos to match the bride as they get ready, or guests at the wedding can do their own hair as they get ready for a wistful summer affair.

#1: For The Bride

The updos for the bride should be easy for the bride to complete with her dress on or off. Many brides get ready with a very small team of people, and the bride should not feel as though she will ruin her hair style as she gets dressed. The best updos for brides are messy updos that take almost no effort. Use a single hair clip to hold your hair in place as you lift your hair up, and your hair will drape over the clip to hide it. A bride can braid her own hair and wrap her braid around her head, or you may choose to braid your hair before wrapping it into a tight bun. These hairstyles are simple, and a bride can do them even when she has pre-wedding jitters.

#2: For The Girls

The girls in the bridal party can help each other do their hair, or you may ask them all to do different styles that they enjoy. Each lady should feel free to put her hair up as if she is heading out of the house to shop, but some of the ladies in the bridal party may prefer one tight bun. Other updos include turning a pony tail inside out, a high pony tail that looks classy and two braided pony tails. These are simple looks that will make every lady look youthful and energetic.

#3: For Guests

Guests arriving for a wedding are not bound by a specific style code, but they do want to look their best when they arrive for the wedding. The best updos for ladies at the wedding are less traditional. A woman could arrive in a simple pony tail, but it is wiser for her to try a side pony tail that drapes over her shoulders. This classic look will help her stand out even though she is not one of the ladies in the bridal party.

Healthy Recipe For Healthy Hair

Healthy Recipe For Healthy HairThe hair is a woman’s crowning glory; women feel and look their best when their hair looks great. It is very important for a woman’s hair to always be strong, thick, shiny and very well maintained.

Unfortunately, some women suffer different hair damages like falling hair, dry and brittle hair, dandruff, split ends, frizzy hair, etc., for various reasons like genes, excessive exposure to the elements and insufficient hair nutrition. The hair needs to be regularly supplied with the proper nutrients to make it strong and enable it to fight the harmful toxins in the environment.

For a healthy, glossy hair, include these in your diet:
• For dry and brittle hair, consume more proteins like eggs, milk, meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and nuts. Proteins help in repairing dull, lackluster hair.

• Iron provides nutrients to the hair follicle to prevent hair loss. Eat more red meat, chicken and leafy vegetables to raise the level of iron in your blood and promote hair growth for luscious, thicker hair.

• Strawberries, papaya, oranges and blueberries are some of the fruits that are very rich in vitamin C. Have more fruits to strengthen hair shafts and prevent hair loss.

• Omega-3 fatty acids from fish provide the oils that are helpful in hydrating the scalp and the hair that are dry and boring. Eat fish at least twice a week for a bouncy, shiny hair.

• The hair needs biotin for growth; eggs are rich in protein as well as biotin.

Here’s a healthy recipe that will provide some of the nutrition needed for a healthy and lustrous hair – protein, iron, vitamin C and omega-3.

5. Mix in the grapefruit juice and honey, and bring to simmer until sauce is reduced by about half.
6. Add the lemon juice and season with salt.
7. Toss the grapefruit slices into the sauce before serving.
8. Spoon sauce over the salmon and serve.

10 Ways to Detox Your Body

10 Ways to Detox Your BodyWhy Should We Detox?

Today’s lifestyle and the eating of fatty foods, excess sugar, and chemical-ridden foods make the body full of harmful toxins. We also live in a highly polluted environment where free radicals that accelerate aging are released into the atmosphere daily.
The harmful toxins from bad toxins and the polluted environment can damage the skin (our largest organ). The blood circulatory system is affected too. As a result of absorbing harmful toxins, the skin looks aged and stressed.

10 Ways to Detox your Body…

The human body naturally detoxes itself via the skin, but the process is faster when we use helpful detoxing products. The stressed body needs all the extra support available to remove the harmful toxins efficiently.

I have a list of 10 effective habits that can help to detox your body.

1. Shower or bath with skin cleansers that open up blocked skin pores. The opened pores help your skin to breathe which in turn oxygenates the body and reduces aging.

2. Use skin lotion to remove dead skin cells. There are many skin care products that protect the human skin from environmental stressors such as exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, and smog.

3. Stimulate the growth of new skin cells using detoxifying creams that contain vitamins A, C and E; the vital vitamins will improve the skin’s immune system. You need to look for products with moisturizing agents so that your skin is adequately protected from dangerous UV radiation.

4. Apply detox lotions that can help your skin to regenerate and correct the signs of aging. Massage your body with creams that contain detox enzymes and anti-oxidants in a circular motion so as to improve cellulite growth.

5. Apply face cleansers in mornings and evenings. The removal of toxins lying deep in the skin is accelerated by the application of cleansing lotions on the face, neck and hands.

6. Transform the tired and stressed skin by using immune boosters. With time, your skin will start to glow, look healthier, younger, and attain an attractive complexion.

7. Improve the vascular and lymphatic system with detoxifying products preferably those that contain eucalyptus and rosemary ingredients. Improved microcirculation plays a vital role in the removal of dark rings and bags in the eye area.

8. You can jump-start the body’s immune system with the daily application of clinically proven skin renewal products. The most useful detoxifying products might probably contain alpha hydroxy acids, fruit extracts and hyaluronate that are crucial in body hydration process.

9. You can detoxify by using skin tones so as to hydrate and brighten the skin. Products whose ingredients are usually mulberry, bearberry, gigawhite, symwhite, licorice mango butter, and anti-oxidant may be of much help in detoxifying.

10. Form the habit to use skin cleansers products after bathing.

With these ideas, you will not only detoxify efficiently but also lead a healthier life and boost your image.

The Top Five Hair Hacks

The Top Five Hair HacksWhen your hair isn’t cooperating, it’s hard to feel your best. Your stylist might try to sell you on tons of treatments, but there are tons of hair hacks that you can do in your own home for a wide array of basic hair problems. Here are five hair concerns and five hacks that will help you to banish these problems for good.

Problem One: Dry, Split Ends

The Hack: If you have dry and split ends but don’t have time to see your stylist, you can mask the solution by using oil. Just a few drops of oil, rubbed into your hands and then pressed against your ends, will create the illusion of a sealed cuticle. Nothing can fix split ends, but using oil on your ends can mask their appearance. If the idea of putting oil in your hair seems a bit too freaky, try a cream with oil mixed in, like the Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Creme.

Problem Two: A Scalp That Feels Dry, But Looks Greasy

The Hack: If frequent shampooing has left your scalp feeling dry, then it might be time to cut back to once or twice a week. However, sometimes even if your scalp feels dry, it might look greasy. This is why every woman should have a can of dry shampoo in her arsenal. Dry shampoo soaks up oil at the scalp, but isn’t as drying as actual shampoo. Try the Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo.

Problem Three: Visible Roots

The Hack: If your roots are showing but you still have weeks before your next color session, try a concealing hair powder like the Oscar Blandi Pronto Hair Shadow Root Concealing Kit. This concealing powder is applied with a brush, just like you would apply powdered makeup to your face. No one will be able to tell that you’re overdue for an appointment with your colorist.

Problem Four: You’ve Been Shampooing Less, And Your Hair Smells Like Sweat

The Hack: More and more women are shampooing less in order to keep their hair naturally hydrated and vibrant. However, even with shampoo, sometimes our hair can start to smell a little off if we haven’t shampooed in a while. Luckily, there are plenty of new hair-specific perfumes on the market. Try a hair fragrance mist like this one from Fekkai.

Problem Five: No Product or Treatment Seems To Help Your Hair

The Hack: If your hair doesn’t seem to respond to any product or styling treatment, then it might be time to consider treating it from the inside. Add a hair, skin and nail supplement like the Russell Organics Power Repair For Skin, Nails and Hair to your daily regimen. Over time, you’ll start to see improved growth and volume.

Keeping your hair gorgeous can be tricky. However, if you incorporate these hair hacks into your routine, you’ll have better, shinier hair in no time.

Must Try Spring Nail Art!

Monday, February 23rd, 2015

Must Try Spring Nail Art!Spring is right around the corner and after a long winter, it is so exciting to see new spring styles and nail art appearing on everyone’s nails! Here are some of the latest spring colors, trends, and nail art that you can expect to see on and off the runway this spring!

Beautiful whites are back this spring and they come in many different shades of white to get your nails noticed. The white nail takes a new look this year with a stripe of gold across the nail that makes it look young, classy, and sophisticated. Anyone can wear white nails and it is a great color to wear during those summer months with a beautiful tan.

Cuticle only style
A unique look this spring is Salley Hanson’s cuticle only look. This look is formed by using a beautiful bold color like a strong teal or blue painted on the entire nail and then removing the paint everywhere but the cuticle area. It gives nails a simple yet colorful approach to wearing polish.

The non-traditional french manicure
This year, nail art can be used with any spring colors by creating the traditional french manicure but using untraditional bold and bright spring colors. For instance, using a light blue on the tips and then a deep, darker electric blue for the bottom of the nail. Two-toned colors look beautiful on a non-traditional french manicure.

Double french-tipped-manicure
Another amazing trend happening this spring is the double french-tipped-manicure. This manicure looks like your basic manicure with the natural white tips and peachy nails. But it does not stop there, the white tips are dipped again in another spring pastel color that compliments the rest of the manicure making it pop. It will look bright and unique, like no other french manicure around. This look is easy to achieve by just adding another shade above the white tip line making this a big hit for spring 2015.

Half moon corals
Bright oranges and soft corals will make an appearance this April. Full painted orange hues similar to Marilyn Monroe’s style will be popular along with half moon corals. Half moon corals are simple to achieve by painting a small crescent shape at the bottom of the nail near your cuticle, leaving the rest bare or a neutral shade. This is a pretty style to wear throughout the spring and summer seasons and looks pretty next to any skin color.

Hand Healers for A Cold Winter

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

Hand Healers for A Cold WinterAs soon as the temperature changes, our skin reacts to the shift in the elements. You may notice your skin drying along with the air. That’s because low humidity levels draw moisture from your skin, and if you are compensating the cold weather with hot baths and showers, you are actually causing the water to wash away natural oils that help keep you moisturized. So, how do you combat threatening skin conditions in the colder months?

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water should be a priority year-round, but is especially beneficial during the winter. Not only are you hydrating your body, but you’re also hydrating your skin, eliminating cases of dryness and itchiness. Drinking four 16 fl.oz. glasses of water per day is almost 2 liters of water, though caffeine-free tea can also count toward your fluid intake, as well as sports drinks, which replace any sodium your body may have lost during the day. Keep in mind that exercise, illness, pregnancy, and breast-feeding affect your overall fluid consumption, so remember to compensate for these factors when calculating daily fluid ounces.

Moisturize Your Skin

Using lotion on a daily basis is always beneficial, especially after shaving and during winter. Consider lotions such as Dr. Hunter’s Rosewater & Glycerine Hand Creme and Gardener’s Hand Healer. The ingredients in these lotions are easily absorbed, diminish blemishes from sun damage, and protects against cracks and chapped skin. Though if you have sensitive skin, consult with your dermatologist. It may be better for you to opt for a non-scented lotion. When researching lotions this time of year, make sure you are looking for reparative moisturizers with ingredients such as Shea butter, glycerin, plant extracts, and Vitamin A.

Eat Healthy

WebMD suggests eating foods like sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, grapes, spinach, olives, whole wheat pasta, and green tea to keep your skin healthy during the winter. Ingesting fatty acids such as Omega-3s and Omega-6s will replenish your skin’s protective oils, as well as canola, salmon, walnuts, and flax.

Incorporate foods and drinks high in antioxidants to keep skin healthy, moisturize every day, and make sure that you’re drinking plenty of fluids. The change in elements can cause for premature wrinkling and aging, so make sure you’re caring for your skin to preserve the conditions of your cells to stay healthy throughout winter.
