6 Cruelty-Free Beauty Brands You Need to Try

Monday, June 27th, 2016

Who doesn’t love a bunny?

Apparently, hundreds of beauty brands who test our beloved beauty products on the poor, helpless animals before they ask us to shell hundreds of dollars for a little fake up. And, China.

For those who don’t know, any foreign cosmetic products sold in mainland China are required to be tested on animals before being pushed out to the market.

Having being asked to pay hefty amounts for these beauty products, as consumers, we all have the right to at least demand some level of tolerance for these poor animals. However, if beauty brands continue to refuse to show any compassion, we always have the choice to opt for cruelty-free beauty brands who absolutely refuse to torture poor animals for the sake of beauty.

How To Find Out Which Beauty Brands Are Cruelty-Free?

Ask.

Yeah, its as simple as that. Most major companies go out of their way to respond to potential customer queries to convert them to regular ones, especially in such controversial and sensitive cases.

However, if you are not up for the whole emailing and querying route, there are always certain cruelty-free logos you can look out for on the brand’s website or it’s product packages.

There are currently three trustworthy organizations across the world that help identify brands who do not test on animals. However, the absence of any cruelty-free logo does not mean that the brand is not cruelty-free since the license to use logos costs.

But if you are on a lookout, check out for these three logos on your favorite beauty brands:

Last year, the brand surprised the beauty world by introducing the Frog Prince Lipstick which on appearance was an emerald green color; however, on application, turned to a shade of rosebud pink color according to the user’s lip pH! This means everyone had their own shade of rosebud pink with the same tube of lipstick! Magical, huh?

Dermalogica

The skincare brand choice of professionals and specialists around the world, Dermalogica has always been a cruelty-free brand, proudly boasting of the Leaping Bunny logo. Dermalogica pulled out of the Chinese market in the year 2012, only to have their animal testing status debatable again after its acquisition by Unilever last year. However, as of the recent news, the brand is still bunny friendly!

6 Summer Beauty Trends We Are Looking Forward To

Monday, June 20th, 2016

It might not feel like summer what with all the showers, but the occasional sunny days are definitely setting the summer mood for us. And, while we are loving the Spring beauty trends, we are more than looking forward to transitioning to the Summer ones!

Check out 6 Summer Beauty Trends we are looking forward to:

Non-Touring

Contouring was huge last year. More than huge. It was literally “cutting edge” at Instagram so much so that people forgot how to go au-naturel. Well, natural is back with non-touring this year.

What is Non-touring, you ask? It’s the lighter, more natural sister version of contouring. It’s there but it’s not there. Its enough to show off your defined cheek bones but its subtle enough to fool others to think you are naturally sculpted.

non-touring

Since summer is all about dewy, glowy skin, non-touring ensures that there is nothing matte about your makeup and thereby, uses products like tinted moisturizers, highlighters and luminous shimmers only.

Yes, none of those matte contour powders. Put the Kim stash away for next season!

The D Word

The D Word is here to stay it seems.

Everyone’s rocking the Dewy, glowy look in spite of the rising temperatures and it seems like they will continue to do so in the coming months.

If you are into minimal makeup and have oily skin (sigh!), you can achieve the look by simply mixing up your favorite moisturizer or facial oil (only a drop!) with your foundation and apply as you usually do. This will give your face an ethereal, from-within glow without looking like you tried too hard.

dewy makeup

If you are fortunate enough to have a normal skin type, unlike us oillies, you can go full blown with highlighters, illuminators and dewy foundations. Highlight, strobe, illuminate or do all of it, just remember to glow this season!

90s Grunge Eyeliner

90s retro trends are huge this year. Denim skirts and chokers, anyone?

Along with the retro fashion trends, a 90s makeup trend that is making a strong comeback this year is the graphic eye liner.

It’s all about drawing sleek, precise lines as you see fit according to your eye shape and your own personal preference. It can be as simple as defining the outer corner of the eyes only in the shape of a traditional cat eye or it can be something experimental like negative space liner where you draw lines in the outer crease of your eye lids.

negative-space-eyeliner

The key to the trend is to ensure that the liner stays as precise as you first put it on. Since summers are going to take a toll on our makeup and melt it right down our faces, do remember to use an eye shadow primer and budge proof liner.

The Blue Eye

It seems like the blue shade isn’t going anywhere this year.

The trend for the blue eye shadows was huge this Spring. From blue eye shadow applied bluntly across the upper eye lid to a subtle lower lash line pop of blue, the trend was major and it is here to stay.

Choose any shade of blue that you like and apply it as you love. It can be a sweep of eyeliner across your upper lid, a full flush of blue color across the lid or a popping blue swipe across the lower lids. Just remember to keep it bright!

makeup_trends_blue_eye_makeup

Another major trend to incorporate along with this trend is colored lashes!

Yup, they are back and with a bang! Opt for brightly colored mascaras and keep your other eye makeup minimal for a cool, retro look that is equally wearable for the office and for after-drinks!

Wet Shine Lips

Seems like the beauty world is ditching the matte trend for good.

With the lips too, its all about the wet, glossy look rather than the winter-old matte/velvet finish look.

You can achieve the wet pout look with a good lip gloss but the ramp worthy look is more achievable with the newly trending lip oils. Just be sure to choose a non-sticky lip oil to avoid the gooey, sticky mess (not a flattering look with an already melting summer look).

wet shine lips

The new lip oils are formulated with essential oils which means that these lippies double up as pigments and nourishment goodies. While you rock a gorgeous, bright, wet slick pout during the season, the oils hydrate and nourish your lips all day long!

Watermelon Hair, Lobs and Braided Do’s

We got your attention with watermelon hair, didn’t we?

The trend is crazy but it is definitely taking over Instagram enough to catch everyone’s attention. And no, it doesn’t involve donning a watermelon on your head. Not literally, at least.

Watermelon hair is a dyeing trend that involves coloring the top of your hair green (the outer part of the watermelon, just a little bright) and the bottom of your hair pink (the inner part of the watermelon).

Not your style? Opt for a bronde (a balayage kinda combination of brown and blonde) and ash (pale colors with gray undertones).

For haircuts, we can drone on and on about the new styles but we all know Kendall Jenner’s snapchat of her latest lob has already have us booking our appointments with our hairdressers.

If you are not one of us crazy celebrity followers and are still rocking your long gorgeous hair, browse through Instagram for beautiful braided styles; be it fishtail braids, half-ponytail braids or those intricate yet messy braided up-dos, all of those are simply perfect for the sunny weather to come!

With all of these gorgeous trends, do not forget to embrace the brightly colored, beach manicures. Be it the gorgeous aquamarines or multi-colored pops of different colors on each nail, go bright, go beachy!

9 Easy Ways to Summer-Proof Your Beauty Routine

Monday, May 30th, 2016

Long beach weekends and all-night mojito parties in summers are something we can get on board with. But the rising temperatures and the accompanying sweat (eeeww) definitely put a damper on things!

Slipping eye liner and bleeding lipstick, anyone?

That doesn’t mean you can’t look gorgeous all summer long. Start using these 9 EASY, fool-proof ways to summer-proof your beauty routine. Because, we all know you aren’t saying no to that weekend party invite.

Go Frizz Free

If it were only that easy.

Kill frizz by limiting the use of heat tools. Embrace the natural beachy waves!

Switch up your shampoo to a more moisturizing one to avoid drying out your hair and frizzing them up. Try Fekkai – Essential Shea Shampoo, which contains Shea Butter for some intense hydration or Fekkai – Brilliant Glossing Shampoo, which is formulated with olive oil to give your hair enviable shine!

fight frizz

Once a week, use a clarifying shampoo like Fekkai – Apple Cider Shampoo to get rid of all impurities and the grime you brought back from the beach.

Oil Up

In the most gorgeous sense.

Before you take your daily dip in the pool, remember to wet your hair with water and then seal your strands with a nourishing oil serum. This way since your hair strands are already wet (hair pores filled with the ‘clean’ water) and sealed, the chlorinated water from the pool won’t damage your hair as much.

Try a nourishing blend of oils like Hamadi – Healing Serum which contains Sunflower Oil, Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Ylang-Ylang, Moroccan Vanilla, Bergamot and Palmarosa Essential Oils!

Mask It On

You know you want to.

While a good conditioner like Fekkai – Essential Shea Conditioner will help keep the frizzies at bay, a deep-conditioning mask will give your hair the necessary hydration boost.

Rita Hazan, celebrity colorist and salon owner, recommends applying a deep conditioner on damp hair after a dip in the ocean or pool. This way while you lie around and get yourself a good, bronzy tan, the sun will act as a heat treatment on your masked hair and give it double the hydration boost.

Condition-and-Care

We recommend you trying a nourishing mask like Fekkai – Essential Shea Riche Moisture Masque which contains no sulfates and is formulated with hydrating, frizz-fighting ingredients like Shea Butter and Olive Oil.

To Exfoliate or NOT to Exfoliate

A big no-no for tanning fans.

While exfoliation helps reveal gorgeous complexion, it essentially does so by removing the top layer of the skin. So if you are into major tanning (sorry, pale buddies), you need to step away from the exfoliator.

exfoliate

Not only will excessive exfoliation remove your hard-earned tan but will also make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

The best way is to limit exfoliation to once or at most, twice a week and follow up with a good sunscreen.

Greasy Face No More

Remember the fine line between glowing skin and grease ball?

The dry skinned gals might be okay with their regular moisturizers but unfortunate, oily skinned girls need to change their moisturizers from creamy, indulgent ones to gel, water-based ones in the summer.

Gel moisturizers are usually water based and very light-weight to help deliver the right amount of hydration without making you look like a grease factory. A light-weight moisturizer like Philosophy – Hope In A Jar is the way to go!

Remember, DO NOT skip moisturizer all together. Your skin can be oily and still be dehydrated at the same time. And, who wants dull, lack-luster skin, right?

Prime Time Special

Don’t let your makeup melt into your mojito!

A good primer is extremely important not only to create a smooth base for facial makeup but also to help increase its longevity especially in the humid months.

There are different primers targeted for different skin concerns like minimizing the appearance of pores, controlling oil, correcting skin tone, hydrating, etc (the list goes on; trust us, it does). So what does a girl on a budget do?

Untitled

Buy a kick-ass primer that targets ALL these concerns while controlling oil in scorching heat and soaring humidity: BECCA Cosmetics – Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector.

A primer to end all primers, BECCA Cosmetics – Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector will not only minimize the appearance of your pores and give you a super smooth base for your foundation but it will also help keep your skin matte for a good 6 hours!

Spray It On

Oily-skinned gals, we feel for you.

If even the Becca primer can’t save your makeup for melting off, we recommend adding an extra step and setting your makeup with a setting spray like Dermablend – Set + Refresh Long-lasting Makeup Setting Spray.

While these steps will ensure that your makeup lasts through the longest of the dance parties, do look into your skincare regimen to see why your skin is so oily. Are you stripping off the natural oils of your face? Are you skipping the moisturizer? Are you using Alcohol-based products in your skincare routine?

In any case, target your skin concerns first before splurging in the makeup products.

Trade In for Gels

Say no to pencils!

Pencil eyeliners are more likely to sweat off in the summer heat and hence, it is a good idea to swap them up for gel eye liners. Youngblood – Incredible Wear Gel Liner has some gorgeous color options to try out this summer.

Youngblood_Incredible_Wear_Gel_Liner_1

These gel liners glide on beautifully and stay out through day/night!

Tips and Tricks

Investing into these beauty products will sure enough melt-proof your beauty routine but some general tips and tricks can go an extra mile to really summer-proof it all!

Chilling your lipstick in the fridge can help your lippie from melting off in the heat. Conditioning your hair before cleansing your body can help prevent bacne. Using salicylic acid based products can help prevent excessive oil and treat acne in one go. Using sulphate-free shampoos can help prevent over-dried hair due to regular washing.

Lipstick Queen: Naturally Amazing Lipstick

Friday, July 31st, 2015

Lipstick QueenLipstick is a crucial link in the chain when it comes to using makeup products to enhance the natural beauty of the face, and discover the glamour that is possible through your own creativity. Getting the most out of lipstick with these kinds of goals in mind means working with products that have real potential. Not just any color nor any lipstick will do with these ends in mind. So turning the spotlight on products that make the grade in almost everyone’s book is always a good start when putting yourself first. Lipstick Queen has been getting a lot of good attention in the cosmetics world thanks to its wealth of pigment, its ability to stay on for considerable periods of time, and the vast selection that waits at your fingertips for a reasonable price. With all these strengths working in its favor, high glamour is always within reach.

Lipstick Queen: Naturally Amazing LipstickLipstick Queen is also brilliant in terms of the themes that it embraces when developing its shades. For instance, their Silver Screen variety offers a hot-pink hue that derives its inspiration from the starlets of theater who we know and adore. The finish is nothing to take lightly, offering a durable, wet look that does not fall short when it comes to texture as well. Another of the unique qualities of Lipstick Queen are the scents that are built into many of the varieties. Silver Screen’s allure is enhanced through the use of natural peppermint oils that provide a pleasant scent on top of a pleasant, tingling sensation. These lipsticks offer just as much promise when it comes to the health of lips over time. In many of the selections, pomegranate is a primary ingredient that keeps lips soft, supple, and hydrated throughout the day.

Antioxidants are another concern for the makers of Lipstick Queen, an ingredient that deserves recognition. High levels of Vitamin E and Vitamin A equal long-lasting protection for the deepest layers of the skin and lips. The Queen Bee lipstick is another highly-popular variety that has earned the praise that it is receiving. As the name certainly suggests, the delicious aroma of this choice is made possible through the inclusion of natural honey. The other natural ingredients that contribute to its comfort and appeal are sunflower extract, chamomile, and royal jelly. This combination makes it a wonderful choice as a lipstick that is ideal for sore and chapped lips as well. It is possible to look good while healing lips at the same time. Lipstick Queen has also tackled the need for a lipstick that does the job of a gloss without forcing full coverage. The solution is their Medieval brand that uses the organic acidity of lemons in order to draw out the naturally-red appearance of the lips.

Eyelash Extensions 101

Eyelash Extensions 101Several women have been blessed with long and luxurious lashes ever since their first baby picture, others are not so lucky. Some eyelashes have simply failed in the luxurious department. It only takes a quick trip down the makeup isle to figure out just how many products are available for eyelash extension. But here is the “101,” skip the cheap fake eyelashes and go for extensions that look like the real thing.

How do Eyelash Extensions Work?
Eyelash extensions use a medical adhesive to bond each lash to an individual’s original lashes. The process is done one lash at a time in order to create a natural look. Individuals can customize their lashes by choosing length, curling style, color and texture. The process is not a permanent treatment. Eyelash extensions usually last up to six weeks, depending on how well they are cared for.

Preparation
Shower Beforehand: In order to avoid having the extensions come into contact with water or steam for at least 48 hours, shower before the treatment.

Remove Makeup: Any makeup, such as mascara or foundation, should be removed prior to the appointment. Individuals should also steer clear of lotion, sunscreen or oil, as they can interfere with the adhesive glue.

Keep Lashes Natural: Lashes should be 100 percent natural when receiving extensions. Along with removing mascara, steer clear of any eyelash curling the day of the appointment.

Aftercare
Avoid Condensation: For at least 48 hours, eyelash extensions should be kept away from water or any other form of condensation. Individuals should avoid showering or working out. Also, if someone lives in a humid area, they should stay indoors during the 48 hour period as much as possible.

Do Not Pull: Constantly touching the extensions can easily damage natural lashes. Try to avoid touching, pulling, twisting or curling the lashes. If an individual wants to remove their extensions, they should always seek professional care.

Avoid Moisture-Based Products: Keep shampoos, conditioners, lotions and oils away from the extensions. Any of those products can loosen the effect of the adhesive, making the extensions last for a lesser amount of time.

Remember the Natural Lashes: Do not forget that the natural lashes are still there. Protect them with an eyelash conditioner or growth serum.

Women who were not blessed with the lashes of luxury do not have to settle for second best. Luxury is waiting for those who work for it and even failed lashes can earn a second chance.

Best Beauty Looks at Coachella 2015

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

Healthy Recipe For Healthy HairThe Coachella festival may only be two weekends in April, but the trends it showcases will be showing up on celebrities and ordinary people alike for the rest of the year. Here’s a look at the best beauty looks you can take straight from Coachella and apply to your look this year.

Soft Goth

Singer Lykke Li went for an all-black, bell-sleeved outfit for her Coachella set, but it was her makeup that sold the look. To get this for yourself, focus on eyes defined by dark eyebrows that are shaped, not over-plucked, continuing the trend for fuller eyebrows of the last three years. For the best shape and strongest statement, fill in with eyebrow pencil. Dramatic eyes are balanced by a soft pink lip instead of a dark color or a glossy red, which would take emphasis away from the eyes. The look is completed by a flawlessly smooth foundation that matches your natural skin tone rather than washing you out. This is a look that says goth style doesn’t have to mean you look like you spent the night in a coffin.

Braids and Waves

Hair at Coachella this year was either carefully braided or left to flow in loose, beachy waves. Single braids were rare – hair was more commonly worn in styles with two or more braids. A braided look doesn’t just have to be a formal one. Many were embellished with bright streaks of blue hair or with cute fabric braided in. Want a looser look? Then braid hair at night and tousle it loose in the morning for the other common Coachella look: loose, shoulder-length waves.

Temporary Embellishments

While body paint is always popular at Coachella, this year both celebrities like Kylie Jenner and regular concert attendees alike were wearing small amounts of body paint in specific areas to highlight rather than cover a feature. While this won’t be an everyday look (unless you happen to be a Kardashian) it serves the same purpose for special occasions or going out that a piece of statement jewelry would. Try a row of tiny cream or pastel pink dots swirled around your left wrist or tracing a line down your throat. Too bold? Go for a softer version with some shimmer powder.

Coachella is a showcase for music, but new beauty trends shine there, too.

Top 5 Makeup Organizers to Keep Your Vanity Neat and Tidy

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Top 5 Makeup Organizers to Keep Your Vanity Neat and TidyWhen it comes to putting on your makeup, we want it to be just as easy as you want it to be. That means keeping everything organized, so you can find it when you need it instead of having to search around everywhere. Clutter on your vanity or bathroom counter will discourage you from putting on your makeup because the makeup is likely hidden in that clutter somewhere, or your makeup brushes are now covered with hairspray and numerous other products from everything you keep on your counter. To keep you better organized, here are the top five makeup organizers.

1. NILECORP Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

This two-piece set includes drawers and a top organizer piece for holding brushes and your to-go makeup bag. Organize the drawers by area of the face – eyes, lips, cheeks – or by the order you put everything in. All of your brushes will fit in the small little compartments in the top piece, and you can place larger makeup kits in the larger compartment or use it to store the makeup bag you use when on the go.

2. InterDesign 3-Drawer Storage Organizer

Available in a variety of colors, this adorable 3-drawer set is perfect if you have a small amount of makeup. Your brushes can easily be stored in the top drawer, and your makeup can be stored in the last two drawers.

3. US Acrylic Audrey Cosmetic Vanity Organizer

If you already have somewhere that you store most of your makeup and just need something to hold the basics on your vanity, this is the perfect organizer for you. It comes with enough room for those essential brushes for eyes and cheeks, and it has enough space for foundation, eye shadow, and even a blush or two. Store your lipsticks in the smaller compartments, and you can even store your bottle of makeup remover in the larger, tall compartment.

4. Whitmore 5-Tier Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

For the woman who enjoys having a lot of color options, consider this 5-tier organizer. It comes with four easy-pull drawers made of a clear acrylic, so you can easily see all of your color options. Organize it the way you want, and use the top compartment with opening lid to store brushes or large makeup kits.

5. Coromose Foldable Makeup Container

This adorable little floral box comes in a variety of colors. The center of the box is perfect for storing your eyshadow, foundation, and other kits, and you can use the outside pockets and slip-through rings to hold your brushes, mascaras, and eyeliners.

Finding the right organizer depends on your makeup needs. Each of these organizers is different, but they all have one thing in common – they will store your makeup and create a more organized space for your beauty routine.

How to Look Good Without Makeup

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015

How to Look Good Without MakeupWe all want to look our best, but, let’s face it. There are times when we have to face others before putting on our makeup for the day. Whether you are trying to cut back on your use of makeup or simply ensure you feel confident when caught off-guard, there are three techniques that can used to look good without makeup anyone can benefit from.

It’s What’s on the Inside That Counts

This old adage doesn’t just apply to our general personalities. It is also relevant when it comes to our appearance. You are what you eat, and making poor choices when it comes to your diet can reflect for the world to see. Aside from eating foods high in vitamins and essential nutrients, skincare supplements can be purchased to encourage a youthful, beautiful appearance. At Beauty Bridge, you can access a variety of professional-quality skincare supplements to create your own personal regimen.

Take Time for Toning

You likely have a system in place dedicated toward care for your skin and appearance. While it likely involves exfoliation and the use of beauty supply products geared toward acne prevention or wrinkle protection, all too many overlook the importance of a good toner. When the skin’s pH balance is disrupted, it can cause dark spots and other aesthetic issues many suffer with. With toner, you can target your specific skin type to maximize your results. Determining if your skin is dry or oily, for example, can help you choose the most appropriate product. When seeking a toner, avoid those with alcohol as they can dry out the skin.

Lurking Dangers

Enjoying time outdoors is one of the most enjoyable parts of the human experience, and most of us appreciate a sunny day. However, before you venture outdoors, even for just a short time, it is crucial that you wear appropriate sunscreen. It is preferable to find a product with SPF 30 or higher. Sun damage increases the aging process. Keep in mind, even if it’s cloudy out, you are still subject to the sun’s harmful rays.

Always Looking Good

We all deserve confidence in our own skin, and you should not fear embarrassment for anyone to see the real you. By following these three tips, you can both maintain your appearance and help slow down the aging process, allowing you to look your best everyday.

Use the Au Natural Look to Your Advantage

“The Natural Look” is making waves in the cosmetics scene for a good reason. It is the best way to enhance your natural features that make you unique. Using subtle colors will hide small imperfections and draw more attention to your eyes. Use colors that blend well with your skin tone. You can use a very small amount of white eye shadow on the inner corners of your eyes to highlight them. This will help your eyes catch more light and to make them look even brighter.

Eyeliner Is Your BFF

Eyeliner is arguably the most important tool in eye make-up. Just as important as the shape is the color of eyeliner you use. Eyeliner should be used as a frame for your natural eye shape, the same way you would frame a piece of artwork. The color should complement your eyes. Black eyeliner can be used as a dark contrast to your light eye color. You can also use a dark blue or purple for the same effect. A dark brown eye-liner can be used for your natural look.

Be Picky About Your Mascara

You should be picky about good make-up products in general, but choosing the mascara that works best for you can work wonders. Black mascara on already dark lashes can help better frame your eyes along with the right eye-liner. Be careful with bright colored mascara. Too much color around your eyes can be overwhelming.

Bright Colors for Special Occasions

Avoid colors that do not complement blue very well, such as red or orange. If you want to add color to your pallet without drowning out your eye color, go for colors that will act as a part of the canvas of your face. Greens, lighter blues, white, silver, and just hints of yellow can be blended together to create a surreal look around your eyes.

Be Careful with Darker Shades

You can go for darker shades of purple, blue, or brown blended with white or silver for a smoky-eye look. If you have a paler pigment, use darker shades of eye shadow sparingly. When done properly, your eyelid should look like the night sky with your blue iris as the moon. You can even use cosmetic rhinestones as stars, if you want to go all out for a special event.
