The Right Pastels for Your Skintone!

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

The Right Pastels for Your Skintone!Pastels are always great for spring wardrobes. However, pastels are more popular than ever this year. Not only are women gravitating towards pastel hues for their clothing, but pastels are popping up in makeup and nail trends as well. Furthermore, many women are adding pastel streaks or ombre accents to their hair. Some pastels work better on some skin tones than others. Here’s a guide on how you can determine the right pastel hue for your skin tone.

Dark Skin Tones
Those with very dark skin tones are lucky, because they can pull off pastels that are downright unflattering on fairer women. While yellow nail polishes and eyeshadow hues can make fair women look borderline sickly, yellow pops in an absolutely stunning way on women with dark skin. Women with darker skin tones should avoid pale lavender eyeshadow shades and lipsticks, as they can look glaring on darker skin tones.

Medium Skin Tones
Women with medium skin tones are fortunate. They can pull off almost all pastel hues. If you want to be fashion forward for spring, try a bold new makeup look. Olive and medium skinned women can pull off bold purple and baby pink lipsticks absolutely beautifully.

Fair Skin Tones
Those with fair skin tones are a bit limited, as a lot of pastels can easily wash them out. When choosing pastel shades, avoid pale yellows and greens. Baby blue and rich pinks pop beautifully on fair skin. If you’re incorporating pastel hues into your hair, try light shades like lavender. Dark streaks can be a little overwhelming on fair women.

Pastels aren’t just gorgeous, but they are cheery and utterly perfect for spring. When wearing pastels, no matter what you skin tone, be sure not to overdo it. If you’re wearing a bold pastel makeup look, pick a more neutral outfit. If you’re wearing pastel clothing, choose basic makeup in earth tones. If you wear pastel from head-to-toe, you can easily start to look like a walking Easter egg. Instead, balance out your look in order to do the pastel trend right.

Must Try Spring Nail Art!

Must Try Spring Nail Art!Spring is right around and the corner and after a long winter, it is so exciting to see new spring styles and nail art appearing on everyones nails! Here are some of the latest spring colors, trends, and nail art that you can expect to see on and off the runway this spring!

Whiteout
Beautiful whites are back this spring and they come in many different shades of white to get your nails noticed. The white nail takes a new look this year with a stripe of gold across the nail that makes it look young, classy, and sophisticated. Anyone can wear white nails and it is a great color to wear during those summer months with a beautiful tan.

Cuticle only style
A unique look this spring is Salley Hanson’s cuticle only look. This look is formed by using a beautiful bold color like a strong teal or blue painted on the entire nail and then removing the paint everywhere but the cuticle area. It gives nails a simple yet colorful approach to wearing polish.

The non-traditional french manicure
This year, nail art can be used with any spring colors by creating the traditional french manicure but using untraditional bold and bright spring colors. For instance, using a light blue on the tips and then a deep, darker electric blue for the bottom of the nail. Two-toned colors look beautiful on a non-traditional french manicure.

Double french-tipped-manicure
Another amazing trend happening this spring is the double french-tipped-manicure. This manicure looks like your basic manicure with the natural white tips and peachy nails. But it does not stop there, the white tips are dipped again in another spring pastel color that compliments the rest of the manicure making it pop. It will look bright and unique, like no other french manicure around. This look is easy to achieve by just adding another shade above the white tip line making this a big hit for spring 2015.

Half moon corals
Bright oranges and soft corals will make an appearance this April. Full painted orange hues similar to Marilyn Monroe’s style will be popular along with half moon corals. Half moon corals are simple to achieve by painting a small crescent shape at the bottom of the nail near your cuticle, leaving the rest bare or a neutral shade. This is a pretty style to wear throughout the spring and summer seasons and looks pretty next to any skin color.

Tricks for Using Your Beauty Blender!

Tricks for Using Your Beauty Blender!
The Beauty Blender is an essential tool for all makeup wearers. It makes makeup application easier while also creating a perfect, flawless finish without the possible streaks that other brushes and fingers can leave behind on the skin. Instead of dirtying up multiple brushes for foundation, concealer, contour, and blush, this tool can do it all, making cleanup even easier with just one tool instead of a handful.

When applying foundation, use the bottom of the Beauty Blender or its side to increase the surface area covered on the skin. Use the tip to blend around the eye and nose area and roll the sponge on its side for perfect blending all over the face. Use the Micro.mini Blender easily for concealer and other precise applications of makeup. These are some of the basic methods for using this sponge, but there are many other tricks that can be performed with it as well.

Applying blush becomes a dream with this sponge. Dip the bottom into a cream or liquid blush and bounce it on the back of the hand to evenly distribute the product on the surface of the sponge. Then go ahead and start applying to the cheeks with soft bouncing motions, the same method used to apply foundation, only in a concentrated area on the cheeks. This creates the perfect airbrushed finish, giving the skin a “lit from within” glow. This tool can also blend out cream bronzer or contour colors, giving immediate dimension to the face without the dry, powdery appearance of layers of powder products.

Not only can it be used to apply multiple cream and liquid products, this sponge is also great for powder products such as powder foundation and setting powders. Simply press the sponge into the powder and roll the sponge onto the skin for a gorgeous finish. The sponge can also be used both wet and dry for this method.

Compared to fingers or brushes, the Beauty Blender gives a flawless finish that can be impossible and much more time consuming to attain with other application methods. The moisture within the sponge helps hydrate the skin as well, allowing for products to melt into the skin better, giving the appearance of perfect skin naturally. The Beauty Blender is also hygienic and easy to clean with the specially formulated cleansers or many other household soaps and facial cleansers. The simplicity of this sponge and all of the tasks it can accomplish makes it a unique method for an airbrushed makeup application look.

Flawless Foundation Application Tips

Flawless Foundation Application TipsOne of the most important cosmetics to apply to the face is foundation. It works to create an even canvas for all your other makeup. The product should appear natural and hide any imperfections that may distract from your other makeup. To apply foundation like a professional and make it look flawless, follow these tried and true steps.

Begin with Primer

Beauty experts recommend applying a liquid primer product to the skin before foundation is used to ensure that the product lasts throughout the day. It will create a smooth base and will also minimize open pores or wrinkles. For those with oily skin, the primer should mostly be applied to the t-zone to reduce shine.

Use a Brush

For a professional finish to your skin, apply the makeup with a brush and begin working it on the center of the forehead before moving outward. The dry side of the brush can be used to blend excess foundation that can look too heavy or caked on. Use smooth, swift motions with the brush for even application. You can also use your fingers to apply the foundation, which will warm the product with your body temperature and will create an even finish.

Don’t Forget Concealer

After your foundation is applied, it’s important to use a flat concealer brush to apply liquid or cream concealer to hide any blemishes or darkness under the eyes and sides of the nose.  Avoid applying it on wrinkles, which can make them appear more pronounced.

Blend with a Sponge

To create an airbrushed glow to your skin, use a small sponge to even out each area of the face to ensure that the product is pulled and spread evenly. Work it into the jawline and neck for an even blend.

Set the Foundation with Loose Powder

To finish off the foundation and make it last all day, apply loose powder and set it with a dense brush. Excess powder can be brushed off by lightly sweeping the skin with the brush. Translucent powder should be used to prevent changing the color of your skin tone.

Holiday Makeup Looks That Wow!
The holiday season is near and the air will soon be filled with frost, fun, and dancing sugar plums. Nothing is better than wearing oversized sweaters and roasting chestnuts on an open fire, warming yourself inside from the chilly weather. A new season means a new style, so what better way to celebrate than with the perfect makeup looks of the year! Are you the belle of the ball or a jingle bell rock and roll girl? These two makeup styles cover up your frosty cheeks and bring out your inner holiday spirit!

Sophisticated and Seasonal

First, use your favorite primer and foundation as desired. Then, use Too Faced’s La Belle Caroousel in the color named Frost and lightly brush just under the arch of your eyebrow. This gives your brow a nice highlight. Next, use the eyeshadow color Tin Soldier on the ends of your eyelids to better define your eye shape. Then, brush the color Santa’s Boots in the crease and on the edge of your eyelids for a smokey chimney feel. Use your desired mascara to finish it off. If you wish, use Rilastil’s Terra Duo Bronzing Powder. It not only gives your cheekbones definition, but it emphasizes your unique face shape. This completes your first look.

Sassy and Sweet

The next style gives you a bit more of a pop! Once again, use your best primer and foundation. Cover your entire eyelid in Too Faced’s eyeshadow color Frost. Brush the color Christmas Tree on the outer side of your eyelid. Then, use a Beautyblender and slowly and carefully blend the green color into the white. This should create a nice gradient that draws the attention right to your beautiful eyes. Finish the eyes with mascara to further accentuate your look. Use Too Faced’s Under the Mistletoe lipstick in the color Marshmallow Bunny to add shimmer and sparkle to your completed makeup style. Your lips will be irresistible to anyone near a branch of mistletoe. Finally, use Lippmann nail polish in red to complete your fabulous makeup with a seasonal color scheme.

‘Tis The Season for Sassy Makeup!

These looks are ideal for any occasion such as sleigh rides, parties, building a snowman, and decorating your home. All the products mentioned above are available online at beautybridge.com. May your holidays be magical!

Best Times For Holiday Shopping

Best Times For Holiday ShoppingWith Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the holiday shopping season is drawing near. When it comes to purchasing gifts for those in your life that mean the most, finding the perfect gift can be tricky and time consuming. While some items on your list will be better bought closer to the actual holiday, others might be bargain deals you want to rush out to get on Black Friday, and still others will be best purchased somewhere between those two time periods.

Black Friday: Gadgets, Gizmos, and Good Shelf Life Items

If you’re purchasing bulky or more expensive items such as electronics or designer fashion products you might want to consider getting them early so you can get the best prices on these items. While there are the obvious Black Friday purchases such as television sets and MP3 players, even items such as cosmetic sets or designer jeans can be good Black Friday bargains for the savvy saving shopper.

Early to Mid December: Stock Up On Stocking Stuffers

Smaller gifts and stocking stuffers are often something that can be put off until the last minute, but in order to avoid sold-out shelves and the scramble to replace the perfect gift with a not-so-perfect substitute, you’ll want to buy some of these items earlier. Soap and shower sets, a bottle of wine, or even decadent chocolates can be a great gift to stick in somebody’s stocking for the occasion, and can even make a great gift for an office friend or colleague. But since it does make such common gifts they’re likely to sell out early. That’s why shopping ahead of time is in your best interest.

Last Minute Gifts: Filler Items and Gifts With Expiration Dates

While you don’t want to wait until the last minute to do all your shopping, there are certain gifts for which it is acceptable, if not encouraged. For instance, a wine and cheese basket, floral arrangements, and baked goods are all items that are going to have very limited lifespans. These are things you’ll definitely want to get or order for delivery within just a day or two of the Holiday. And, despite our best efforts, we all have also been in the situation of swinging by the store for a few last-minute filler gifts such as lotion sets or gift cards.

No matter when you’re planning to do your shopping, making a game plan ahead of time is always in your best interest. With a plan and these guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to a successful, stress free shopping season!

How to Achieve the Perfect Eyeliner

How to Achieve the Perfect EyelinerThe perfect eyeliner adds a beautiful, dramatic touch and draws attention up to your beautiful eyes. Getting the right techniques down can revolutionize your look for everyday and out on the town glamour.

Basic Topline

You should always start with the basics. A simple topline eyeliner look can be appropriate for everyday wear or dressed up for a night out with an intense lipstick shade or dramatic eye shadow. To get this look, first add a small amount of eyeshadow primer to the lid to keep the liner in place. Then press the outside corner of your eye to pull it tight and use the other hand to apply the liner along the upper lash line in small strokes. Use a brush or q-tip to clean up or even out any imperfections, ensuring that it will look even and natural.

Open Up Those Eyes

Women with smaller eyes, those looking to hide a lack of sleep, or those who want a wide eyed romantic look can achieve benefit from a white eyeliner. Adding white just under the brow line and smudging it lightly downward will open up the whole area and make you look more awake. Add a smudged line of white to the lower middle of your lids, just above your regular liner to make eyes look larger and rounder or add a little white to the lower inner rim of your eye to reflect a lighter color into your eye and cancel out any redness from a late night out.

Winged Eyeliner

For a more dramatic, night time look, consider winged eyeliner. To achieve this look, draw a short line sweeping up from the outer corner of each eye. Draw another line that is connected to the one you already drew that is sweeping gradually in toward your upper lash line. Then, fill in the space between these two lines and add a relatively thick top line along your lashes, narrowing as it approaches the inner corner. The larger the wing, the more dramatic the look.

Smokey Eyes

For a sexy, smokey eye look, start with an eyeshadow primer as your canvas. Then place your eyeliner along the upper lash line, getting thicker as you move toward the outer corner of the eye. Use a brush to spread the line outward and very slightly upward from the edge of the eye. This will create a soft second corner. Follow up with mascara to complete this dramatic look.

Eyeliner can completely change your look. Be sure to choose the right technique for the occasion.

Clean Up Your Makeup Drawer To Stay Looking Beautiful

Clean Up Your Makeup Drawer To Stay Looking Beautiful As heartbreaking as it may be, sometimes we have to say goodbye to makeup that has been hanging around in our makeup drawer for too long. It is not fun to feel like you are throwing away beautiful products, but consider it a chance to invest in something new. Maybe you have been wanting to try a new shade or formula for a while now and you finally have your chance! At some point, makeup becomes unhealthy for your skin and eyes. Knowing when your beauty products have reached their expiration date is an important piece of information that you should be aware of.

Mascara/Eyeliner
Any product that is used around your eyes is something you need to be careful with. Bacteria can find its way into your eyes and cause an infection. Mascara should be tossed after 3-4 months to prevent any eye issues.

Foundation/Concealer/Cream Makeup
To help prevent skin breakouts or irritations, throw out foundation and other liquid or cream makeup products after about one year. You can tell that foundation has expired when the liquid starts to separate. If your foundation contains sunscreen, it may not be effective after the expiration date. This is important if preventing sun damage is a concern of yours.

Lipstick/Lip Gloss

Lips can be sensitive to products so it is important to know when to throw out your old lipstick in favor of something new. Lipstick is good for about 2 years. After that, it may dry out or become unsafe to use on your pretty lips.

Powder Blush/Eyeshadow/Bronzer
Makeup that comes in powder form is considered okay to use for about 2 years. Skin irritation or reduction in quality are concerns if makeup is used beyond that time period.

There are some types of makeup products that come with printed on expiration dates and some that do not. You may want to write the date you started using the product on the lid or bottom of the bottle. If you can’t remember the date you started using your makeup product, there are some things to look for to decide if it is unsafe to use. Some ways to tell if makeup is expired are:
* It smells funny
* The makeup looks discolored
* Begins to clump, flake or dry out
* Liquid makeup starts to separate

Hopefully, these tips are helpful in cleaning out your makeup drawer. Using safe cosmetics will keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy.
