Friday, December 12th, 2014

Best Gifts for The Beauty LoverHoliday gift ideas may not come easily, especially for those who are not fond of shopping. There are several online stores and eCommerce options that specialize in a number of different industries and genres. These solutions make it simple to shop for the man or woman who seems to have everything. When a gift recipient has a special interest or hobby, the search for the perfect gift becomes narrower and directed toward a specific product or service. Anyone who is into beauty regiments and skincare treatments will be pleased with the great new holiday collections by some of the most trusted names in the business.

Consider Gift Sets
Attempting to make a purchase of multiple beauty products or skincare enhancements is typically much smoother when the products are bought in tandem. Gift sets are not only more economically priced, but they are also conveniently and beautifully wrapped. This single step approach saves the giver both time and resources. The Philosophy Pink Marshmallow Buttercream Trio makes a fun gift because it encompasses many different facets of a daily beauty routine. Gift sets like this one include a bath or shower gel, scented lotion, and a bonus item for good measure. In this case, a moisturizing lip shine adds the finishing touch to morning preparations.

Remember The Men
Gift sets are not just for the ladies, and many popular brands are specifically catering to the male audience. Today most men are keenly aware of the benefits of proper skincare. Certain occupations, especially those that include outdoor work, can result in dry or rough skin. Men can now protect their hands and face from chapping and cracking, which can be extremely painful. One of the easiest gifts to choose for a man is a shaving product or gift set. The Art of Shaving Skin Care Kit features a host of products meant to prepare skin for shaving and then provide lasting protection.

Add Some Glamour
Every woman wants to feel beautiful and desirable. Sometimes they spend so much time as caregivers that they fail to take time to adequately care for themselves. Cosmetics are a great gift for the girl who wants to look and feel her very best. A gift that allows a woman to pamper herself through a massage, manicure, or pedicure will be much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. Bold and flashy cosmetics are great ideas for the woman who wants to make a statement. The flirtatious Sexyback Lip and Nail Duet from the Deborah Lippmann collection is the perfect accent gift or stocking stuffer from ladies who love to have fun with their makeup and accessories. Ladies who prefer a more practical approach to life but still have a great sense of humor will get a kick out of the Bliss Crown Jewels or Buttah Bling gift sets.

Regardless of the number of tasks at hand for the season, shoppers are sure to find the perfect choices for all the men and women on their gift list. Leading brands have made their most coveted products available in convenient packaging to make the shopping experience seamless and productive. Many shoppers are bound to be so impressed with their skills that they will decide to pick up a few key products for themselves during their shopping excursions.

Hand Healers for A Cold Winter

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

Hand Healers for A Cold WinterAs soon as the temperature changes, our skin reacts to the shift in the elements. You may notice your skin drying along with the air. That’s because low humidity levels draw moisture from your skin, and if you are compensating the cold weather with hot baths and showers, you are actually causing the water to wash away natural oils that help keep you moisturized. So, how do you combat threatening skin conditions in the colder months?

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water should be a priority year-round, but is especially beneficial during the winter. Not only are you hydrating your body, but you’re also hydrating your skin, eliminating cases of dryness and itchiness. Drinking four 16 fl.oz. glasses of water per day is almost 2 liters of water, though caffeine-free tea can also count toward your fluid intake, as well as sports drinks, which replace any sodium your body may have lost during the day. Keep in mind that exercise, illness, pregnancy, and breast-feeding affect your overall fluid consumption, so remember to compensate for these factors when calculating daily fluid ounces.

Moisturize Your Skin

Using lotion on a daily basis is always beneficial, especially after shaving and during winter. Consider lotions such as Dr. Hunter’s Rosewater & Glycerine Hand Creme and Gardener’s Hand Healer. The ingredients in these lotions are easily absorbed, diminish blemishes from sun damage, and protects against cracks and chapped skin. Though if you have sensitive skin, consult with your dermatologist. It may be better for you to opt for a non-scented lotion. When researching lotions this time of year, make sure you are looking for reparative moisturizers with ingredients such as Shea butter, glycerin, plant extracts, and Vitamin A.

Eat Healthy

WebMD suggests eating foods like sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, grapes, spinach, olives, whole wheat pasta, and green tea to keep your skin healthy during the winter. Ingesting fatty acids such as Omega-3s and Omega-6s will replenish your skin’s protective oils, as well as canola, salmon, walnuts, and flax.

Incorporate foods and drinks high in antioxidants to keep skin healthy, moisturize every day, and make sure that you’re drinking plenty of fluids. The change in elements can cause for premature wrinkling and aging, so make sure you’re caring for your skin to preserve the conditions of your cells to stay healthy throughout winter.

Skincare Benefits of Oxygen

Saturday, November 8th, 2014

Skincare Benefits of OxygenCells need oxygen to survive, and skin cells are no different. The unfortunate effects of smothering skin under layers of makeup– or, even worse, sleeping with makeup on– are well known, but it turns out that topically applying skin can help it stay fresh, youthful, and healthy.

Oxygen was first found to help heal people with severe burns. Oxygen gas, which is naturally present in a stable, bonded form, helps increase cell turnover and speeds up cellular metabolism. This makes it helpful for anyone that wants to maintain healthy skin.

Oxygen Therapy vs. Oxidative Damage

Oxygen isn’t always friendly to skin. Oxidative stress, an imbalance between reactive forms of oxygen and the body’s ability to neutralize them, leads to free radical damage. This damage is partially associated with signs of aging, including dull, sagging, and wrinkled skin. Oxygen therapy doesn’t contribute to this kind of skin damage, since is uses stable diatomic oxygen molecules rather than unstable, unpaired oxygen atoms.

How Oxygen Is Delivered to Skin

Hospitals have access to oxygen tents and gas tanks, but these aren’t remotely practical for home use. Fortunately there are skincare products containing oxygen on the market that offer it in a stabilized liquid form, which converts to oxygen gas once the product is applied. This lets users get the benefit of fresh, oxygenated skin without having to resort to gas tanks and expensive trips to specialty spas.

Antioxidants and Oxygen

Much has been made of antioxidants when it comes to fighting aging and preventing free radical damage. One of the benefits of using skincare products that contain oxygen is that they can be combined with antioxidants like vitamin E, botanical ingredients, or other compounds that have their own skin-saving virtues. In the end, it’s possible to get the best of both worlds– improved skin health with oxygen, and prevention of free radical damage.

Maintaining healthy skin means protecting it from damage and providing all of the nutrients it needs, including oxygen. By thoroughly cleansing skin every night to remove oxygen-blocking debris and clear out pores, and applying oxygen-containing skincare products afterward, you can have a brighter, clearer, more youthful complexion.

The Beauty of Cleansing Oils

The Beauty of Cleansing OilsAny beautician will attest to the benefits of cleansing oils for skin care. They contain a broad range of healthy antioxidants, can relieve specific skin conditions and have incredible moisturizing properties. They are also exceptional for cleaning skin without clogging pores, a serious issue with most soaps and other cleansing products.

Methods for Cleansing with Oil

  1. Select an oil suited to your skin type.
  2. Run yourself a nice steamy bath and get a clean wash cloth.
  3. Place eight to 10 drops in your palm and rub it carefully between the palms to warm the cleansing oil.
  4. Massage the oil thoroughly into the skin. You want to remove all traces of sebum and makeup impurities. Perform the act for no less than two minutes.
  5. Dip the wash cloth into the steamy water. Do not ring out water. Instead drape it across your face.
  6. After the wash cloth cools, gently pat away excess oil.
  7. Repeat the process up to five times or until your skin feels clear of oil and impurities.
  8. Tone and moisturize.

Choosing a Cleansing Oil

Talk with a beautician or other skin care specialist about how to determine what cleansing oil is best for your situation. Still, here are a few of the best oil cleansers and moisturizers for cleaning skin and effectively combatting issues like acne.

Argan Cleansing Oil

Besides not clogging pores, argan oil is a sound solution for preventing stretch marks and restoring skin elasticity, rehydrating skin and regenerating skin cells. It’s helpful in the reduction of brown spots and acne. It also provides a healthy dose of Vitamin E, which is great for skin care.

Coconut Cleansing Oil

It’s important to note that despite its benefits, coconut oil can clog pores. You should test it for a couple of days before deciding if it is the best cleansing option for your skin. Otherwise, it has exemplary moisturizing, anti-microbial, antiseptic and anti-aging properties. Coconut oil also provides a pleasant soothing and softening feel to the skin and touch.

Jojoba Cleansing Oil

Jojoba is a popular cleansing ingredient because it is similar to the natural oil that skin produces. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, helping to balance acne and oily skin. Great for dry skin as well, it treats skin infections and doesn’t clog pores.

They say oil and water don’t mix. That doesn’t apply when it comes to caring for your skin. Cleansing oil and water is an ideal solution for even the most problematic skin.

Using Retinol 101

Using Retinol 101You’ve heard of retinol as a skin care revolution, but is it right for your skin? This compound, also known as Vitamin A, is added to skin creams and potions as an anti-aging miracle, with beauty-boosting properties that range from unclogging pores to boosting collagen and reducing fine lines to evening discoloring and smoothing skin. Read on to learn more about whether you should use retinol and how to find the right product for you.

Experts say that retinol is the single most important skin care ingredient to combat the effects of aging. However, although it really works, it may take time for you to see a dramatic effect. Retinol is best used as a long-term method to protect the youthful look and feel of your skin, not as a fast fix measure to hide damage that has already occurred. Most dermatologists recommend that women start using retinol in their 30s, and definitely by the time they hit 40, for maximum protection against the effects of aging.

While the strongest forms of retinol are available only with a prescription, you should first test out an over-the-counter version to see if you like the results. Look for brands that specifically list retinol high in the ingredient list, as related compounds may be less effective.

Start off by using a small amount of retinol at night in conjunction with a moisturizer to see how your skin responds. Because retinol increases skin cell turnover, some users may experience redness and stinging, particularly with frequent use. If you have sensitive skin, start out slow and discontinue use of this product if you experience irritation or discomfort. These symptoms are more likely to occur with the prescription form of retinol.

An important caution, particularly for those who begin using retinol products in their 20s, is that the compound can actually thin skin over time. This makes you more susceptible to the effects of sun damage, which is not only dangerous but will counteract any anti-aging effects you’ve gained from use of the product. Make sure to always wear SPF on your face, especially if you’re using retinol products.

Dermalogica Training

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

Dermalogica TrainingThis week we were so excited to have our Dermalogica training here at Beauty Bridge! The Dermalogica line is super popular with our customers and has many different products to address pretty much any concern one could have. Our trainer, Ariel, was extremely knowledgeable and is both an esthetician and a Dermalogica teacher who teaches at the Institute in New York. She made everything really easy to understand and even gave us some pointers on her favorite product concoctions as the products can be combined in many ways.

The line has eight systems, all made to address concerns of the client that falls in that category and all can be boosted by products from a different range. The line was founded by an esthetician so it focuses on skin health. This means there are no fragrances, mineral oil, chemicals, lanolin or any other ingredients that could compromise the skin or cause allergic reactions. In fact some of the products smell so good you would want to bathe in them!

The most basic system, and the one Ariel suggested we start with, is the Daily Skin Health. The products in the line are the essentials for your everyday skin routine. They keep your skin clean, healthy and moisturized so you can then tackle more intense concerns like aging or breakouts.

The next line is the Age Smart. This line aims to slow down the process of aging before it starts. It has scientifically advanced ingredients that have been proven to stop aging triggers before they start. This line contains retinols, which we all know are the holy grail of ingredients for skin aging, that have been buffered so they do not cause any stinging, peeling or irritation.

The Ultracalming line contains wonderful ingredients like Lavender and Chamomile to soothe the skin and can be used pretty much by anybody but is most beneficial to ultrasensitive skin. We especially loved this line for the wonderful smell and universal usage.

The Medibac and Clear Start lines are both for acne and Ariel said they can both be mixed and matched since sometimes the Medibac line is a little bit stronger than the Clear Start. The Medibac is generally more for adult acne while the Clear Start is for teenage acne. I especially loved the Clearing Booster from the Medibac line because you can add it to any moisturizer and it automatically makes it an acne fighting product.

The Chroma-White line is truly wonderful. It brightens any pigmentation without being harsh or damaging the skin which can lead to premature aging. It does not bleach or lighten the skin, rather brightens it so it is suitable for all skin colors and types. With this system however we were told you have to be very patient since pigmentation is one of the harder things to get rid of in the skin.

Dermalogica also has bodycare products, suncare and moisture tints, all made to compliment the effects you are getting from your skincare products.

We truly enjoyed our training with Ariel and learned a lot about this wonderful line. We can now diagnose and make skin recommendations to all of our wonderful customers and maybe do a little shopping for ourselves!

How to Get Your Skin Ready for Fall!

Sunday, August 10th, 2014

How to Get Your Skin Ready for Fall!Although summer still has plenty of days filled with beauty left, many minds are starting to shift toward the fall. As much as you love your summer style, you also want to make sure your skin is ready for the fall. After all, you can get some windy days where your face could become chapped.

Start Using Sunscreen

Even if you have not used a dab of sunscreen once this summer, it’s never too late to get healthier skin. When you apply sunscreen, you are protecting your skin in both the short and long term. You won’t have to deal with burns and peeling skin, and you are also working to protect yourself against skin cancer. If you have any questionable moles or marks on your face, don’t ignore them. Schedule an appointment with your dermatologist to find out if they are indicative of a more serious condition.

Address Your Skin Troubles

Most people have some sort of issue with their skin. Whether you struggle with skin that flakes no matter what or you are constantly breaking out with acne, let this be the season that you finally address these problems and correct them. Speak with your dermatologist about ointments you can use or changes you can make to your diet to help. It’s not all about having this initial conversation though; you also need to ensure that you are following through with this routine.

Nice Exfoliation

Check with your dermatologist before exfoliating your skin because certain conditions could mean more damage after this process. You could exfoliate your skin at home, or you could go for a facial at the local salon. In any case, exfoliating will help you remove the dead skin cells from your body, which gives you a fresh canvas from which to work. Make this step a part of your routine.

Moisturize

As the colder temperatures start to come into existence, you might notice that your skin becomes drier. Start to combat this problem now by using a moisturizer all over your body every day. Be sure to choose the appropriate facial moisturizer or else you could end up with overly oily skin. Always check the ingredients labels so that you do not expose yourself to elements that cause allergies for you.

Preparing for the fall involves taking out the warmer clothes and picking up your favorite coffee, but it also means that the time has come to revamp your skin care routine.

Neocutis- A Brand Unlike Any Other
Neocutis- A Brand Unlike Any Other

Neocutis is a line of skin care specifically formulated for its anti-aging effects on the skin. Neocutis products have been thoroughly researched and developed by credited Swiss scientists using the very latest in product development technologies.

PSP

PSP stands for Processed Skin Cell Proteins and was discovered first for its wound healing properties. PSP can also be used as an active ingredient in cosmetics and skin care products such as Neocutis, making the Neocutis skin care line the newest generation of naturally balanced products available. PSP produces a balanced combination of polypeptides and skin nourishing proteins which utilizes the power of cytokines and human growth factors for advanced skin revitalization.

Melaplex

Melaplex is another active ingredient found in Neocutis skin care products. It is a proprietary blend of skin brightening ingredients which diminishes dark spots and uneven skin tone, restoring the complexion to a more youthful state of clarified brightness. Melaplex is a combination of four key ingredients that help target pigmentation spots in the skin:

• Phenylethyl Resorcinol

• Leucine

• Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine

• Sodium Glycerophosphate

Melaplex has been clinically tested and proven to improve skin tone by forty three percent in a twelve week, twice daily application.

Rosaplex

Rosaplex is a redness balancing formula that boosts skin’s natural ability to reverse and prevent redness in the skin. Redness can be caused by acne, rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis. The latest research confirms that the skin’s own innate immune system can cause redness and is linked to an over production of anti-microbial peptides. Neocutis products containing Rosaplex restores the skin’s balance and boosts the skin’s defense against redness by combining:

• Sodium Dextran Sulfate

• Zinc PCA

• Caffeine

• Sodium Glycerophosphate

• Glycerin

Rosaplex helps to manage and diminish redness in the skin, blemishes and blotchiness and delivers results in less than eight weeks with twice daily application.

Vita-Plex C

Vita-Plex C assists in managing oxidative stress which increases the activity of free radicals on the skin. These free radicals directly contribute to aging of the skin. Vita-Plex C neutralizes free radicals and supports regeneration with its anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidents in Vita-Plex C include hydrophilics and lipophilics blended with an amino acid metabolite which preserves cellular preservation.

Neocutis products are an extremely advanced line of anti-aging and restorative skin care products that target and treat many of the symptoms and signs of aging most often reported by dermatologic patients. Often Neocutis is recommended as a preferred alternative to more invasive treatments such as acid peels or laser skin resurfacing.

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every Week

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every WeekWomen love to spend quality time in the bathroom doing the things that make us beautiful. To ensure that this time is well-spent, we need to be doing things that have a real impact on the way we look and how we feel about ourselves. The seven following beauty treatments fit into those categories, and you can do them on a weekly basis.

1. Face Masques

With so many different types of masques in existence, you will be able to find a product that can reduce any particular problem. For example, if you have acne, a clay masque has the effect of reducing the amount of oil and grease in the skin. One excellent example is Exuviance Purifying Clay Masque. By using a clay masque, your skin will receive essential anti-oxidants as well as a moisturizer that gives your skin a soft and smooth look and feel.

2. Hair Treatments

Some people recommend that you do a hair treatment every month. In order to have the best results, a weekly treatment is going to be necessary. You may wish to try theBalm Enroot Conditioning Treatment Mask that brings anti-oxidants, rice proteins and bamboo extracts to your hair. Bamboo extracts have the effect of strengthening your hair while it restores moisture and increases the hair’s volume.

3. Microdermabrasion

As an anti-aging product, microdermabrasion is placed near the top. However, if used to often, microdermabrasion can have harsh side effects. When used on a weekly basis, it is extremely effective as an exfoliator and is even known as an alternative to the face lift. Sothy’s Renewal Microdermabrasion Mask is one example that will brighten your skin after every use.

4. Body Scrubs

The rest of your body needs to be exfoliated as much as your face does. For this purpose, people travel all the way to the Dead Sea to experience its therapeutic effects. You only need AHAVA Deadsea Salt Softening Butter Salt Scrub that contains Dead Sea salt to have similar results. Dead Sea salt has the effect of reducing deep wrinkles and making your skin feel nourished, clean and soft.

5. Whiten Your Teeth

As we age, our teeth become stained with the food we eat and the beverages that we drink. To combat this reality, a weekly teeth whitening routine that restores your smile to its former brilliance is warranted. However, teeth whitening doesn’t have to be a difficult procedure. The GoSmile On the Go Teeth Whitening Pen makes whitening your teeth simple with an easy-to-use pen that you can apply and go or take with you.

6. Brow Grooming

Sometimes, we neglect our eyebrows, but this will be less likely to occur if you have something like Youngblood’s Brow ARTISTE Kit. You will be able to ensure that your eyebrows are perfectly groomed every week with this product’s botanical brow wax that does not contain any parabens. The kit also comes with pigmented brow powder. This makes it possible for you to groom your eyebrows and end with a natural look.

7. Upper Lip Wax

The hair on the upper lip is a constant thorn in the sides of women especially if they color their hair. A weekly upper lip wax will eliminate this problem. It can be a simple matter of applying a wax strip to the area and quickly removing the unwanted hair. To achieve this goal, Bliss Poetic Waxing Wax Strips Face is an excellent choice because it is hypoallergenic and contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is a substance that has been known to ease the pain of wounds and also aids in healing.

Dry Brushing for Health

Saturday, April 12th, 2014

As technology advances, there are a variety of options to choose from when investing in one’s health and beauty, but sometimes the simplest methods are the most efficient. If silky smooth skin is the goal, and it usually is, one of the best ways to achieve it is through dry brushing. This technique is used at spas throughout the world to brighten and tighten skin, leaving it with a healthy glow, but this practice is perfect for those who prefer to treat themselves at home. Investing just a few minutes a day can help improve circulation, toxin elimination and exfoliation.
Dry Brushing for Health
Exfoliation
The most obvious benefit of dry brushing is the sloughing away of dead skin cells. By eliminating the rough, dry patches, the skin’s overall appearance will show noticeable improvement. It also preps the epidermis for any further treatment, such as moisturizers or body masks, by removing a barrier and allowing skin care products to penetrate.

Lymphatic Drainage and Cell Renewal
While the body has systems in place that naturally filter and detoxify, dry brushing helps to speed up the process. The pressure of the brush, when moved in the proper direction, pushes the lymph through the body to aid in waste elimination.

Cellulite
Many spas use dry brushing as a part of cellulite treatment. Opinions are varied as to the usefulness of the procedure and whether or not eliminating toxins actually reduces the appearance of cellulite. Some critics claim that the results are only a temporary plumping, but for some clients, even that may be enough.

When dry brushing at home, always start at the feet and work up, using long upward motions towards the heart. A stiff brush with natural bristles is the best choice, but watch that the skin does not become irritated or inflamed and be sure to avoid areas with abrasions or cuts. While it is important that the brush is slightly rough, very little pressure is needed for positive results.

To clean the brush, simply use mild shampoo and warm water, then let it air dry completely to avoid a gathering of bacteria. Dry brushing can make a dramatic difference in any skincare routine and still remain simple and cost effective.
