Three reasons why you need a BB cream

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Have you tried a BB cream yet?

Chances are, you’ve been hearing a lot lately about the miraculousness of BB creams. These ramped-up tinted moisturizers offer coverage in addition to anti-aging benefits and SPF. Women everywhere have been adding these products to their routines to make life simpler – after all, it’s like getting several products in one package! So why else should you add a BB cream to your vanity?

1. Your foundation is too heavy. Sometimes, you just don’t need a lot of coverage, whether it’s because it’s summertime or your face has been particularly clear lately. In that case, a BB cream like Too Faced – Tinted Beauty Balm Multi-Benefit Skin Care Makeup SPF 20 – Nude Glow can even out your complexion without smothering your skin.

2. You’re afraid of using blush. If you’re hesitant to use blush because you think it’s too noticeable on your face, Allure magazine points out that BB cream can help reduce the impact of blush. Apply a thin layer over your blush to make it look more natural and add a fresh, dewy finish.

3. You hate the greasiness of sunscreen. If you’ve yet to find a sunscreen that doesn’t make your complexion feel oily, a BB cream is the perfect solution. With SPF built right in, you won’t have to worry about that extra protective layer.

Three tips for looking fabulous on the beachIf you're heading off to a warm, sunny destination for a winter vacation, you likely can't wait to lounge on the beach – but how will you maintain your beautiful looks under the beating sun? Believe it or not, you don't have to leave your foundation, lip gloss and eyeshadow at home just because you're going to be enduring warm weather. Here are some makeup tips for the beach.

1. Choose summery tones.
To avoid looking too dolled up on the white sands when you're supposed to be relaxing, Cosmopolitan magazine recommends going with peach- and pink-toned blush and eye makeup. Consider trying the Colorscience Pro Lip Polish Wand!

2. Keep your skin protected.
When selecting cosmetics for your trip, be sure to opt for makeup that includes SPF to fight off damaging ultraviolet rays while looking fabulous. These days, it's possible to find everything from concealer to moisturizer that protects your skin from the sun.

3. Don't go dark around your eyes.
Save the dramatic black eyeliner for your next night on the town and opt for a lighter shade while you catch some sunlight. Doing so can soften your look, making it more suitable for the beach.

For a quick and seamless way to ensure you get the vital protection from harmful rays that you need, consider using an all-day wear foundation with SPF. This type of foundation can match the multifaceted dimension of your complexion and keep your sensitive skin out of harm's way.

But when it comes to fending off the telltale signs of advancing years, you shouldn't just settle for facial coverage. Instead, you should go for a remarkable anti-aging hand cream that will keep your mitts soft and wrinkle-free all through the year!

Back in the day, you might have relished dressing up in ghoulish face paint and a black wig to channel a spooky witch vibe, but this year, you can show how magically appealing you’ve become by sporting skin so radiant and age-defying, onlookers are sure to fall under your spell.

With an anti-aging cream like BABOR – Baborganic Pure Age Preventing Cream, you can boost cell regeneration and renewal, both essential in turning back the clock on fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. While it may not be the most unique, dressing up as a playful cat for Halloween can be a flattering costume for women of any age and with a few of the right beauty products you can make this style one-of-a-kind. The best part about dressing up as a mischievous kitty for the holiday? It gives you the chance to show off flawlessly crafted cat eyes!

To start, grab a primer and blend it along your upper lash line to ensure your eyeliner stays intact throughout the evening, then gently trace a line over your upper lash. Most importantly, don’t forget to add a swoop! You can make your initial line thicker depending on how much of a statement you want to make.

A precision eyeliner like BABOR – Maxi Definition Eye Liner (Black) offers a calligraphy tip that can make it easy to draw the most exact line possible. One thing’s for sure, though – with this bold look, you’re bound to make a dramatic impression!

Are you putting on sunscreen but still getting burned on your nose?

Monday, July 16th, 2012

Your nose needs plenty of coverage to keep it protected from the sun!Your nose is one of the most prominent features on your face, and because of this, it often gets plenty of attention from the sun. The tip of the nose is one of the most likely areas to get sunburned because it's exposed and vulnerable, meaning it's also one of the most common areas for nonmelanoma skin cancer, reports Allure Magazine. So how can you make sure it's totally protected?

First, make it a point to wear a wide-brimmed hat when you're outside for long periods. A cute hat is not only a great accessory, but it'll keep your nose in the shade. You'll also need a good sunscreen for the face that will offer you plenty of SPF for both UVA and UVB rays.

Keep in mind that because the skin on your nose is often oilier than the rest of your face, sunscreen will break down faster there. That means you should be reapplying it to your nose (and everywhere else, too) every two hours, after a swim or if you've been sweating.

What happens if you still managed to get a burn? Start out by covering the redness with a green-tinted concealer, then follow up with foundation as usual. This should be enough to get rid of that Rudolph look!

Is it safe to use last year’s SPF products?

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Last year's SPF products aren't safe - you'll need to restock! If you're hitting the beach for vacation this summer (or just getting away one Saturday), you're going to need some serious SPF to prevent sunburns. But before you reach for that bottle of sunblock from last summer, you might want to consider the facts – old sunscreen isn't safe.

"Using an expired sunscreen can lead to reduced protection from UV rays due to diminished SPF," Holly Thaggard, founder and CEO of Supergoop!, told Birchbox. Not to mention – old products often harbor bacteria and fungus because they've been sitting around for so long after being used.

The active ingredients in sunscreen also break down in high temperatures, so even if your stash is new, it might lose its effectiveness if you keep it in the car or leave it in the sun at the beach.

The solution? Keep something like COOLA – SPF 30 Face Classic Moisturizing Sunscreen Cucumber in your purse for daily use, then take a fresh bottle of PETER THOMAS ROTH – Uber-Dry Sunscreen SPF 30 to the beach in an opaque beach bag.

Everything you need to make that sunburn disappear

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Here's everything you need to heal that burn!Using sunscreen and being careful about your UV exposure outside is a must for everyone, but slip-ups do happen. Maybe slathering on the sunblock slipped your mind, or perhaps you weren't planning to be outside at all. Whatever the reason for your sunburn, chances are you want it to stop hurting and looking so red – FAST! Here's what you need to soothe the burn.

First, drink plenty of water to make sure that you're hydrated. Nothing makes you thirstier than a nasty burn. If it's extra painful, consider taking an aspirin to lessen the hurt and make living with it a bit more bearable. You might also want to slather on some aloe vera or use tea bags to soothe and get rid of the sting, recommends The Beauty Department.

Taking cold showers will feel good, but you want to avoid using harsh soaps and exfoliants that can make the burn feel worse. Lather up with something like AHAVA – Mineral Botanic Water Lily & Guarana Body Wash, using your hands so the application is gentle. Then follow up with a rich moisturizer like Archipelago Botanicals – Milk Body Butter – Oat Milk, which allows for cell regeneration and ultra hydration. If you keep up this routine for a few days, your burn should improve in no time!
