A new spin on a classic manicureNow that it's a new year, it's the perfect time to take a few beauty risks. And while chopping your hair off and dying it platinum like Ashlee Simpson or rocking neon shadow like Rachel McAdams may seem too extreme for some, why not take a cue from Jennifer Love Hewitt's unique manicure?

The star of the former hit show Ghost Whisperer attended an event in Los Angeles with nude nails that featured black tips. This new take on a classic French manicure was fresh and chic. She looked edgy while remaining polished and refined.

Recreating this look isn't too tricky, as long as you follow a few steps. Begin by filing your nails – the dark lacquer will emphasize your tips, so there is no need for extra length. Short nails will also keep the manicure from appearing too over-the-top and extreme.

Apply two coats of nude nail polish and, when it's dry, brush on thin stripes of black polish on the tips of your talons. Finish with a top coat and you're good to go!

Because dark polish makes nicks more noticeable and nails often begin chipping at the tips, this manicure is basically manufactured for touch-ups. Every few days, fill in chips with black lacquer and reapply the top coat.
