Colors You'll Fall For

Each year, people flock to certain parts of the country to see the majestic colors of the fall foliage. Whether or not you’re lucky enough to see the leaves turn these vibrant shades firsthand, you can still incorporate the season’s colors into your makeup routine.

This fall, the hottest hues are radiant, rich and regal – cool and collected enough for a casual event and refined enough for a more elegant affair. The best part? These shades are flattering on every skin tone. Now that you’ve fallen for fall’s colors, here’s how to work them into your routine:

Plum
Plum is bound to be the focal point of your look, so you might as well go for a bold lip. The key to getting high-intensity, lasting pigment is starting with a layer of coordinating lip liner. Carefully trace your lips with Youngblood’s Lip Liner Pencil in Plum and then lightly color them in. Swipe on a coat of Youngblood’s Lipstick in Envy and onlookers are bound to be – well, envious of your pout.

Taupe
Move over, smoky eye: The taupe cat eye is wearable at any time of day or occasion and is just as alluring. Taupe is a brownish gray that complements any complexion, and since it’s going to be your go-to neutral this autumn, the GloMinerals Mini Eye Shadow Quad in Venus is about to become your peepers’ best friend. Apply a layer of the taupe at the top left of the quad as a base on your lids. Then dab the lighter shadow next to it at the inner corners of your eyes. Finish with a swipe of espresso or black eyeliner along the top lashline for more drama.

Emerald
Pantone declared this green jewel tone the color of the year, and it has certainly maintained its intrigue. This is a powerful hue, though, meaning a little bit will go a long way. Instead of dusting emerald across your whole lid, use it to create accents that will define and attract light to the eye. Consider using a flat brush to apply a thin flash of Too Faced’s Exotic Color Intense Eye Shadow in Nice Stems along the bottom lashline. Or, dust it at the outer corners of your eyes for a soft but seductive effect.
