Concerned that your bright pink cheeks have you looking like you're in clown college? No need to throw away that vibrant shade – the trick to a natural flush is making sure you apply your makeup in the right way and in the right places. Here are some tips for making sure your blush is subtle, feminine and all-around beautiful.
First, you need to find the right color. To figure out which shade will work for you, gently pinch your bare cheeks and observe the color they turn. Select a blush within a few shades of that hue – perhaps a little more vibrant if you're looking for maximum impact. (And a little shimmer never hurt, either!)
Once you've found the right blush for you, the next step is to apply it. Use a soft, round brush with lots of thick bristles for even coverage. While you stand in front of the mirror, smile and find the apples of your cheeks – then brush your blush over them. Sweep gently upward toward your temples for more defined cheekbones, or stick to the round part of your cheeks for a more youthful, innocent style.
