How Springtime Blossoms Affect Beauty Trends

April 30th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Isn’t it wonderful that winter’s finally over and springtime blossoms have reappeared? Don’t get me wrong. I like the cold seasons as much as anyone, but it sure is refreshing to see bright blue skies and flower gardens again. One of the most amazing things about the changing season is the way new spring blooms affect beauty. Yes, fields of fresh wildflowers are lovely to look at, but I’m talking about the way the flowers of May have a direct impact on our color choices in fashion and in makeup, too.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker HairI don’t know about you, but I was done with winter about a month ago. Boot weather is nice, but enough is enough. Now that spring is here, it’s time to put the heavy winter woolens into storage and time to unpack our favorite cotton sun dresses and strappiest sandals. Springtime is all about renewal and fresh beginnings, right? May is the perfect month to take a break from heavy winter cosmetics. Now’s a great time to do a bit of spring cleaning, both in our closets and in our cosmetic cases, too.

As Mother Nature shares her most vibrant hues, we can strike a more colorful pose. Adopt a pastel palette and toss off the muted earth tones of your winter makeup routine. Springtime is the right time to change it up with Easter egg colors and seashell tints on fingertips, eyes and lips. Ditch your heavy creme foundation and switch to a lightweight silky powder. My favorite this year? Natural Mineral Foundation by Youngblood.

Before they told us how dangerous solar radiation can be, we girls used to spend the month of May working on our suntans. Not such a good idea anymore, but that’s no reason we can’t have a bit of sun kissed springtime bloom on our faces. Super lightweight Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel gives us a sweet blush without the hazards of UV light or the bulk of heavy blushing creams.

If you have any questions about Beauty Bridge products, send us an email or give our customer service number a jingle. We’re always delighted to speak with our customers. In the meantime, I have a springtime flower garden I need to go see about.

Ciao for now!

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every Week

April 21st, 2014 | Contributed by:

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every WeekWomen love to spend quality time in the bathroom doing the things that make us beautiful. To ensure that this time is well-spent, we need to be doing things that have a real impact on the way we look and how we feel about ourselves. The seven following beauty treatments fit into those categories, and you can do them on a weekly basis.

1. Face Masques

With so many different types of masques in existence, you will be able to find a product that can reduce any particular problem. For example, if you have acne, a clay masque has the effect of reducing the amount of oil and grease in the skin. One excellent example is Exuviance Purifying Clay Masque. By using a clay masque, your skin will receive essential anti-oxidants as well as a moisturizer that gives your skin a soft and smooth look and feel.

2. Hair Treatments

Some people recommend that you do a hair treatment every month. In order to have the best results, a weekly treatment is going to be necessary. You may wish to try theBalm Enroot Conditioning Treatment Mask that brings anti-oxidants, rice proteins and bamboo extracts to your hair. Bamboo extracts have the effect of strengthening your hair while it restores moisture and increases the hair’s volume.

3. Microdermabrasion

As an anti-aging product, microdermabrasion is placed near the top. However, if used to often, microdermabrasion can have harsh side effects. When used on a weekly basis, it is extremely effective as an exfoliator and is even known as an alternative to the face lift. Sothy’s Renewal Microdermabrasion Mask is one example that will brighten your skin after every use.

4. Body Scrubs

The rest of your body needs to be exfoliated as much as your face does. For this purpose, people travel all the way to the Dead Sea to experience its therapeutic effects. You only need AHAVA Deadsea Salt Softening Butter Salt Scrub that contains Dead Sea salt to have similar results. Dead Sea salt has the effect of reducing deep wrinkles and making your skin feel nourished, clean and soft.

5. Whiten Your Teeth

As we age, our teeth become stained with the food we eat and the beverages that we drink. To combat this reality, a weekly teeth whitening routine that restores your smile to its former brilliance is warranted. However, teeth whitening doesn’t have to be a difficult procedure. The GoSmile On the Go Teeth Whitening Pen makes whitening your teeth simple with an easy-to-use pen that you can apply and go or take with you.

6. Brow Grooming

Sometimes, we neglect our eyebrows, but this will be less likely to occur if you have something like Youngblood’s Brow ARTISTE Kit. You will be able to ensure that your eyebrows are perfectly groomed every week with this product’s botanical brow wax that does not contain any parabens. The kit also comes with pigmented brow powder. This makes it possible for you to groom your eyebrows and end with a natural look.

7. Upper Lip Wax

The hair on the upper lip is a constant thorn in the sides of women especially if they color their hair. A weekly upper lip wax will eliminate this problem. It can be a simple matter of applying a wax strip to the area and quickly removing the unwanted hair. To achieve this goal, Bliss Poetic Waxing Wax Strips Face is an excellent choice because it is hypoallergenic and contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is a substance that has been known to ease the pain of wounds and also aids in healing.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair

April 18th, 2014 | Contributed by:

1. Use The Right Shampoo and Conditioner
The first step to having thick and luxurious looking hair is to use the right products in the shower. Many shampoos and conditioners focus on hydrating hair, which is a good thing, but thin hair can be weighed down and made to look limp. Replacing your current cleanser with either Hamadi – Honey Soymilk Hair Wash or Leonor Greyl – Bain Volumateur Aux Algues, both of which offer lightweight moisture and a volume boost, may make a huge difference in how full your hair appears.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair2. Don’t Let Long Hair Weight You Down
When it comes to making your hair look thicker, less can be more. The longer your hair is, the more weight it has, which can make it appear flat. Not only are shorter looks easier to manage, they also tend to look fuller. Getting a blunt cut with bangs or going for artfully arranged layers makes can make even baby fine hair appear full of volume.

3. Blow Dry Your Hair With The Right Tools
For many people with thin hair, blow drying is a must. However, you want to be sure that you are using the right tools and products when doing so. You should be using a product that will both protect your hair as well as add volume, such as Fekkai – COIFF Defense Pre-Style Thermal/UV Protectant. These types of products will help you get volume without also making hair appear brittle or lifeless due to heat damage.

4. Use Curlers and Rollers
Curls are a great way to pump up the volume in your hair, and you can easily achieve this using a curling iron or hot rollers. If you don’t want to go with ringlets, you can also add extra oomph to your hair by using large rollers that create a more wavy or tousled look.

5. Add Volume With Extensions
One way that a lot of models and actresses get extra volume is by using falls or extensions in their hair. There are both synthetic and natural hair pieces available, and most can be dyed to match your exact hair color. Additionally, you can choose your level of commitment; salons can put in extensions that last for months or you can purchase clip-ins for daily use.

6. Maintain Your Hair’s Health
If you’ve already got hair that is fine, it’s important to keep it looking healthy and shiny. Hair with numerous split ends and that looks dull will appear even flatter, and you are looking for volume, not frizz. Treatments like Leonor Greyl – Creme Regeneratrice can undo the effects of damage from heat and styling as well as adding volume to naturally thin hair.

7. Consider Your Diet
Getting fuller hair is more than about what you put on your head, it’s also about what you put in your body. Adding certain items to your diet or taking supplements can improve the building blocks your body has to work with when it comes to growing hair. Biotin, Zinc and B-Vitamins are all essential to healthy and full hair, so adding them to a diet that is lacking can speed up the growth of hair as well as improving its overall appearance.

Spring Manicure Trends

April 8th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Spring Manicure TrendsSpring is the traditional time for rebirth and renewal, which makes spring the perfect season for trying out new styles. Along with donning shorter skirts and outfits in brighter hues, trendsetters may want to experiment with unique colors and nail art techniques this spring. The word for Spring 2014 nails is “subtlety,” so step outside the box and elicit compliments wherever you go with the following understated spring manicure styles that are easy to do at home.

Tortoiseshell

The ombré nail trend is still going strong, but the coming of spring gives you the opportunity to play with it a little and make it your own. Try the tortoiseshell, or ecaille, technique as an alternative. Recently demonstrated as a hair technique by celebrity fashionistas including Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, tortoiseshell fading also looks great on your nails. With this technique, two nail colors, usually complementary, fade into each other much more subtly than with traditional two-tone ombré contrasting.

Pearled

Who knew that the timeless elegance of pearls could come to life on your nails? For a simple touch of luxury that works perfectly with your favorite little black dress, coat your nails with two layers of a sweet-colored polish, like bubblegum pink or sky blue. Using tweezers, carefully add pearl rhinestones at the base of each nail, covering about one-third of the surface.

Textured

Textured nails were on display at New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2014 runways, and adding a bit of texture is a great way to have fun with your nails without being too gaudy or over-the-top. Start with a light pastel or Earth-toned polish. On a paper plate, mix the polish with a few teaspoons of coffee grounds or coarsely-ground sugar, then apply. Make your three-dimensional nails shine by finishing with a topcoat.

Radiant Orchid

Radiant Orchid, 2014’s color of the year is bold and striking, and it’s perfect for those who like to stand out. On your nails, use the tortoiseshell technique with Radiant Orchid and a lighter violet or lavender hue, or accent a neutral-toned outfit with Radiant Orchid polish and lipstick. Because nothing about Radiant Orchid is subtle, a small touch is all it takes to turn heads.

Pantone Color of The Year: “Radiant Orchid”

March 1st, 2014 | Contributed by:

Pantone Color of The Year:
The color of 2014, Radiant Orchid, is diametrically opposite to 2013′s emerald. Radiant Orchid is a perfect brew of purple and fuchsia with hints of pink. It exudes elegance, mystery and charm. Pantone 18-3224 is a dramatic hue that has already made its way into spring fashion trends, providing an energizing element that expresses confidence and vivacity.

Who can Wear Radiant Orchid?

Colors belonging to the purple family are associated with nobility because in ancient times, these colors were difficult to produce, limiting their use to royal garments. Today, Radiant Orchid can be reproduced as fabric dyes and cosmetic pigments.

Practically anyone of any age, male and female alike, can wear Radiant Orchid. Already, spring 2014 clothes and accessories are sporting variations of the orchid theme. It takes chutzpah to get away with an all-purple outfit, but it can be done. For those who favor subtlety, accessorize with orchid-inspired fashion elements.

Radiant Orchid on Your Face

The eyes love orchid-tone shadows. Play up your eyes by blending closely-related shades of orchid and pink eye shadows. Start with orchid-tinged eyeliner followed by a brush application of orchid eye shadow in the inner corner of the eye. Blend with an applicator. For a smoky look, apply a darker shade on the outer corners of the eyes.

Radiant Orchid lipstick is sultry and sophisticated, but it may be difficult to pull off. Opt for a delicate application of eye makeup, and the rest of the face should be velvety and flawless, which can be achieved with a mattifying foundation. Ensure that orchid lipstick remains run-free by applying lip primer or concealer on the lips prior to outlining with a lip liner and filling in with lipstick.

Radiant Orchid on your Nails

Nail fashion has never been this much fun before the Radiant Orchid trend. Add drama to the most drab outfit with nail polish that complements your outfit and your makeup. Choose a shade that does not clash nor match your outfit too perfectly.

Radiant Orchid on your Hair

No one can get away with a full head colored in Radiant Orchid, but this shade provides perfect highlights for a playful look. For a more sedate appearance, choose deeper shades of orchid and streak your locks only in strategic spots.

The Secret to Wearing Radiant Orchid

Pantone’s 2014 color of the year speaks to independent and innovative spirits. Avoid using a single hue on everything you are wearing. Monotone does not quite cut it when it comes to Radiant Orchid. Instead, choose different tones from the same purple palette to balance drama with high style.

Winter Haircare Must-Haves

February 10th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Winter Haircare Must-Haves
From frigid temperatures to bone-chilling winds and harsh storms, winter weather is full of dangers that can wreak havoc on your hair’s health and style. Fortunately, just because seasonal changes are unavoidable doesn’t mean that you should give up and throw your hair up in a bun until balmy spring weather makes a comeback. Stocking your beauty cabinet with the smart winter must-haves below can help you keep your locks smooth, strong and shiny through the coldest days of the year.

Fortifying Shampoo
Your light summer shampoo probably isn’t strong enough to combat damage and dryness that can be caused by severe winter weather. Although a shampoo is technically used to remove dirt and buildup, it can play a key role in preparing your hair to handle all types of harsh outdoor elements. For ultimate protection, look for moisturizing formulas with nutrient-enriched blends. If your scalp feels especially dry during the winter season, pick up an anti-dandruff shampoo to ward off flakes. Since powerful anti-dandruff cleansers can contain drying chemicals, use yours with every other wash and only when necessary.

Hair Conditioner
Relentless winter winds can leave your hair feeling dry and brittle. To prevent damage and lock in 24-hour moisture protection, look for hair conditioning treatments with long-lasting staying power. Leave-in conditioners can do wonders for keeping frizz under control on thicker manes. If you have thinner locks, use a deep conditioning treatment twice a week to banish split ends and revitalize your scalp for faster hair growth.

Alcohol-Free Styling Products
Do your smooth summer strands turn into a stiff, frizzy nightmare as soon as winter weather hits? Alcohol, commonly used in over-the-counter styling creams and sprays, could be the culprit behind the drastic change. Since hair is especially susceptible to dryness and flyaways during the colder months of the year, you want to use nourishing products that seal in moisture and fight static. If sleek and smooth hair is on your winter wish list, make the switch to alcohol-free styling serums with silicone or essential oils.

Heat Protectant
When you already have a busy schedule, letting your hair air dry is rarely an option. While you can get away with styling your hair wet in the summer, using heat tools becomes unavoidable once winter rolls around. Over time, exposure to concentrated heat can dry your hair out and cause breakage. To minimize the risk of damage, coat your wet locks with a lightweight heat protectant before using hair dryers and other heat styling tools. For an extra bonus, look for heat-activated serums that add shine and tame frizz.

New Years Beauty Resolutions

January 17th, 2014 | Contributed by:

New Years Beauty Resolutions

At this point, 2014 is in full swing, and your ready to keep your resolutions this time around. Radiating beauty is something that you want to make a priority this year, but you’re not quite sure where to start. What are some ideas to get the momentum going on that goal?

Don’t Skimp on Your Routine
During the winter, many ladies tend to get lazy about shaving their legs, applying lotion and getting their nails done. While a full-fledged pedicure is not really necessary when it’s cold outside, you should still have a routine that makes you feel feminine and beautiful. Now is the time to use those gift cards from Christmas and buy scented body lotions and pretty polishes.

Treat Your Hair Right
Sometimes, we damage our hair a little bit too much in an effort to obtain more beauty. You don’t have to throw away all of your styling tools and give up dying your hair, but you should take it a little bit easy. On days when you’re going out to enjoy a casual lunch with friends or kicking it at home in a pair of sweatpants, just let your hair dry naturally. Speak with a stylist about ways to avoid damage when coloring your locks.

Freshen Up Your Makeup
When women think about their beauty routines, a lot of that thought is dedicated to makeup. Now is the time to go through all of the products that you own and get rid of the ones that you don’t use anymore. You should work on finding colors and shades that actually make sense for you. Heading to the local department store for a consultation can help you to find a foundation that covers all of your flaws without making you look orange or muddy.

Address Your Dressing Style
Wearing the right clothes is a part of beauty. Stop hanging onto items that you haven’t worn in years and make space for new flattering clothing. Instead of trying to squeeze into clothes that are too small, accept the size that you are and buy clothes that make sense for your shape and size. Feeling good in your clothes is a major part of looking beautiful.

As you can see, keeping beauty resolutions is going to require a little bit of work on your part, but you’re likely to feel like a glamour queen all year round if you put in the effort.

Two different takes on the timeless top knot

December 31st, 2013 | Contributed by:

Two different takes on the timeless top knot

Hair style trends come and go, but the top knot appears to be here to stay. Some of the hottest celebrities from Emily Blunt to Rachel McAdams embraced this look in 2013, rocking it on the red carpet or just in everyday life. That’s the beauty of the top knot: It’s effortless enough to look casual but can also appear impossibly elegant. It works year round, and for a variety of occasions, making it a chic and easy option when you just can’t deal with having your hair down.

So if you haven’t already, it’s time to try this trend in 2014. Take some inspiration from your favorite stars and follow these steps:

Bedhead beautiful
A top knot can come in and save the day when you just don’t have time to shower. In fact, this messy version looks best on a ‘do that’s one or two days old.

Start by applying dry shampoo on your scalp and combing through to soak up any excess oil and give your strands some texture. After fluffing your hair to enhance its natural body, sweep it back with your fingers into a ponytail. To ensure the pony isn’t too tight, tug at the top and sides a little. If you’re going for maximum volume, back-comb your hair with a fine-toothed comb and mist with hairspray. Begin twisting your tresses about halfway down the pony and then coil onto your head into a half ballerina bun.

While holding the half bun, grab the rest of the hair that’s hanging loose and spread it out over the bun to create a mussed up, tousled look. Secure an elastic around the entire bun, twist it and pull it over the top a second time. For bigger impact, tug some strands out of the bun.

Sleek and sophisticated
The key to a polished top knot, like the one seen on countless runway models this year, is first getting the perfect neat ponytail. Apply a shine serum to your strands and brush them back, securing with an elastic near the crown of the head.

Next, divide your hair into two sections and start twisting them around each other to create a rope braid. After you’ve reached the ends, twirl the braid around the elastic at the base of your ponytail. If there are any wild pieces sticking out, carefully tuck them into the braid and under the elastic. Finish with a generous application of strong-hold hairspray to keep your ‘do locked into place and flyaway-free.
