Summer Trend – Hair Fragrance

July 2nd, 2014 | Contributed by:

Summer Trend - Hair Fragrance
When somebody passes by you, it’s possible that you’ll get a whiff of what they’re wearing – usually, that’s perfume or body spray, coupled with their lotion, hair products and other beauty products. However, there are few scents that cling so tightly as those in the hair, which is why hair perfume is the perfect addition to your morning routine. Hair perfume, like Fekkai Hair Fragrance, is one of the latest beauty products on the market. One-part hairspray, one-part perfume, hair perfumes are the next big thing for women of all ages.

Perfume and Hair: A Match Made in Fragrance Heaven
Hair is an excellent diffuser for fragrances. It holds the fragrance in while wafting it around as the hair is tossed and tousled. If you’re looking to make an impression with your sweet scent, spritz your mane with hair perfume. Some people assume that regular perfume can simply be used on the hair, but that’s not true. Hair perfume is specially made for you locks – it contains a tiny bit of oil to help keep a healthy shine, it’s low on alcohol so that it won’t dry out your ‘do and it’s lighter than normal perfumes.
Alcohol and Hair Perfumes
You’ll notice that alcohol is an ingredient in most hair perfumes, but not to worry – there’s such a small amount of alcohol in hair fragrances that it evaporates in the air before it even reaches your lovely hair. Plus, since there’s a bit of oil in hair fragrances, drying out your locks is even less of a consideration.
A Word of Wisdom
You may have to break the habit of spritzing on your regular perfume as you get dressed for the day. Hair fragrances are strong enough to use on their own – two fragrances may be overwhelming for others. Plus, you could find that your perfume and hair fragrance are clashing, which won’t exactly give you the intended effect. During warm weather, you’ll be happy that you don’t have to add something else to your skin – slather on the SPF, spritz your hair with fragrance and be on your way!

A Guide to Facial Peels

June 13th, 2014 | Contributed by:

A Guide to Facial PeelsIf you’ve had skin problems or feel like you look older than you feel, a facial peel might be just the thing to bring back your smooth and youthful glow. Weather, sun exposure, smoking, acne, age and more can all affect facial skin, and sometimes you just want a little help. This isn’t radical plastic surgery; a peel helps freshen your skin and brings out the real you.

Where to Get Facial Peels

Dermatologists can perform facial peels, but it depends on how deeply into the skin’s layers you need to go to achieve the look you want. For light treatments, you can apply over-the-counter products by yourself. For deeper treatments, you’ll need a trip to the doctor.

What Facial Peels Do

There are many conditions that can make your skin appear dull, uneven or blotchy. A facial peel renews your skin faster than nature can and also corrects certain conditions that nature lets go. Some of the ways a facial peel can help include:

  • Reducing the appearance of small lines around your eyes and mouth as well as wrinkles due to age and sun damage.
  • Lightening freckles, age spots and darker areas that sometimes occur with pregnancy or use of birth control pills.
  • Treating light scars and some forms of acne.
  • Helping pre-cancerous facial growths with deeper peels.

How Peels Work

Facial peels use acidic solutions to remove your skin’s outer layers and reveal fresher ones underneath. Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), which include glycolic and lactic acids, are common mild forms; carbolic (phenol) and trichloroacetic (TCA) acids work deeper into the skin.

These solutions may sting and cause redness as they remove skin layers. Mild peels typically look and feel like bad sunburn. Deeper peels might cause blistering and require bandages during healing. All of them create sun sensitivity, and it’s important to protect yourself by avoiding exposure as you heal.

Success with Facial Peels

Everyone’s skin is different and your results might be completely different from someone else’s. Testing solutions or lotions on a small patch of skin before applying them to your entire face is always a good idea.

People who have fair skin and light-colored hair generally receive better results from medical peels than those with darker complexions. A facial peel sometimes causes permanent skin lightening, which is naturally more noticeable on darker tones. Treatments can still be successful, but it depends on what you want to achieve. At-home treatments probably won’t cause such problems, and you can discuss your concerns with doctors regarding deeper peels.

Treating Yourself

If you’re interested in light treatments that you can do at home, there are lots of good products. Some exfoliating treatments use rough granules to remove dead skin cells. BABOR Cleansing CP contains ground peach pits, and ClariSEA Green Tea Sea Salt Cleanser uses microbeads and salicylic acid to clarify skin. Both also contain moisturizers to sooth and repair skin.

For a slightly deeper treatment, there’s Purifying Glycolic Gel for daily cleansing, and That’s Incredi-Peel Glycolic Resurfacing Pads offer spa-strength results at home. Note: These products contain AHAs and may sting, create redness or increase sun sensitivity. Faithfully follow the instructions, and soon you’ll be glowing with fresh, young skin.

The Best Coachella Fashions

June 9th, 2014 | Contributed by:

The Best Coachella Fashions
Although Coachella is an arts and music event, it is considered a festival of fashion as well. It is one time when young Hollywood gets together to flaunt bohemian chic style. It is a great time to get some inspiration for summer. Here is a closer look at the best Coachella fashions of 2014.

Bella Thorne’s Look

One of the best fashion looks at Coachella was worn by Bella Thorne. Her boho essence was one of the best and got the most attention. She wore a fringe bikini top paired with printed shorts. It was an effortless way to show off her thin frame. Since she had so much skin exposed, she probably needed to stock up on sunscreen.

Vanessa Hudgens Rocks the Desert

Vanessa Hudgens is a youthful beauty who also embraced the warm weather and casual atmosphere of Coachella. She proudly displayed a tribal bathing suit top. Although her new pink hair was a standout feature, the tone of the event was minimalistic. To fit the scene, Hudgens wore a sheer lip tint and other light skin products.

Katy Perry Cool

No music/fashion event would be complete without Katy Perry. Her appearance is always fresh and cool. Her understated wardrobe choices made her one of the best at Coachella. She wore a crochet midriff tank with cut-off shorts. Besides her cateye sunglasses and green-tipped hair, her white nails worked perfectly with the outfit.

The Simplicity of Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger is always on the cutting edge of style. She showed off a more simplistic side at Coachella with a plain black mini dress with white accent belt and sandals. To protect her face, she wore a tan hat that matched her whimsical backpack. It appears like she also used a bronzing product to give her skin a more sun-kissed glow.

Kendall Jenner

Always at the height of fashion are the Kardashians. Their little sister Kendall is never far behind. She took a bold approach at Coachella with her tribal bell bottoms and feminine off-the-shoulder peasant top, which revealed her stomach. Once again, she went natural on the makeup and kept her hair down and flowing.

It appears that loose fitting styles were the rage at Coachella for 2014. All of the above fashions rocked the event and displayed a fun and casual chic essence. As with other years, makeup and accessories were understated and natural. Overall, the fashion examples are easy recreate and wear throughout the summer.

The Best Met Gala Beauty

June 7th, 2014 | Contributed by:

The Best Met Gala Beauty
The Met Gala is one of the most popular fashion events that is celebrated each year. Celebrities are always walking the red carpet while flaunting gorgeous gowns. It is the official kick-off of the Costume Institute’s exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Besides the dresses, all eyes are on hair and makeup. Here is a look at the best Met Gala beauty for 2014.

Live Like Blake Lively

Blake Lively displayed her retro fashion sense with her nude colored Gucci gown and elegant long, wavy hairstyle. She accentuated her eyes with long and lush lashes but also included a nice pink lipstick. She truly looked as if she was part of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Flawless Beyonce

Beyonce is one of the most beautiful people on the planet. At this year’s Met Gala, she displayed a dramatic look. She slicked her hair back and topped it with a birdcage veil. Her chandelier earrings were just as extreme as her dark red lipstick. Her eyes shimmered in gold shadow as well. Her black Givenchy dress was equally as exquisite with its plunging neckline and see-through covering.

Classic Selena Gomez

Gomez wore a dark berry colored dress with matching lipstick to the 2014 Met Gala. To appear more sophisticated, she wore her hair in an elegant updo. To fill in her face, she wore large diamond dangle earrings. The look was not complete without her signature smoldering eyes that were made up with silver and white liner.

Nicole Richie and the Color Purple

Nicole Richie always manages to mix fun with elegance. To the 2014 Met Gala, she wore a lavender Donna Karan dress. To balance the asymmetrical creation, she wore diamond encrusted ear cuffs to accentuate her purple hairdo. The look was completed with an application of a glittery eyeshadow.

Olivia Munn

Munn oozed sexuality at the 2014 Met Gala in her Diane Von Furstenberg daffodil colored dress. The long sleeve gown covered her arms but exposed her cleavage. It matched beautifully with her dark hair and winged hair pin. To offset the freckles on her face she wore bright orange lipstick, which tied the whole look together.

Unlike 2013, this year’s Met Gala was filled with much less edgy fashion choices. The theme for 2014 centered around beautiful couture dresses with refined and elegant hair and makeup. Obviously, this trend will continue and spill over into everyday style as well.

How Springtime Blossoms Affect Beauty Trends

April 30th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Isn’t it wonderful that winter’s finally over and springtime blossoms have reappeared? Don’t get me wrong. I like the cold seasons as much as anyone, but it sure is refreshing to see bright blue skies and flower gardens again. One of the most amazing things about the changing season is the way new spring blooms affect beauty. Yes, fields of fresh wildflowers are lovely to look at, but I’m talking about the way the flowers of May have a direct impact on our color choices in fashion and in makeup, too.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker HairI don’t know about you, but I was done with winter about a month ago. Boot weather is nice, but enough is enough. Now that spring is here, it’s time to put the heavy winter woolens into storage and time to unpack our favorite cotton sun dresses and strappiest sandals. Springtime is all about renewal and fresh beginnings, right? May is the perfect month to take a break from heavy winter cosmetics. Now’s a great time to do a bit of spring cleaning, both in our closets and in our cosmetic cases, too.

As Mother Nature shares her most vibrant hues, we can strike a more colorful pose. Adopt a pastel palette and toss off the muted earth tones of your winter makeup routine. Springtime is the right time to change it up with Easter egg colors and seashell tints on fingertips, eyes and lips. Ditch your heavy creme foundation and switch to a lightweight silky powder. My favorite this year? Natural Mineral Foundation by Youngblood.

Before they told us how dangerous solar radiation can be, we girls used to spend the month of May working on our suntans. Not such a good idea anymore, but that’s no reason we can’t have a bit of sun kissed springtime bloom on our faces. Super lightweight Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel gives us a sweet blush without the hazards of UV light or the bulk of heavy blushing creams.

If you have any questions about Beauty Bridge products, send us an email or give our customer service number a jingle. We’re always delighted to speak with our customers. In the meantime, I have a springtime flower garden I need to go see about.

Ciao for now!

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every Week

April 21st, 2014 | Contributed by:

7 Beauty Treatments to Give Yourself Every WeekWomen love to spend quality time in the bathroom doing the things that make us beautiful. To ensure that this time is well-spent, we need to be doing things that have a real impact on the way we look and how we feel about ourselves. The seven following beauty treatments fit into those categories, and you can do them on a weekly basis.

1. Face Masques

With so many different types of masques in existence, you will be able to find a product that can reduce any particular problem. For example, if you have acne, a clay masque has the effect of reducing the amount of oil and grease in the skin. One excellent example is Exuviance Purifying Clay Masque. By using a clay masque, your skin will receive essential anti-oxidants as well as a moisturizer that gives your skin a soft and smooth look and feel.

2. Hair Treatments

Some people recommend that you do a hair treatment every month. In order to have the best results, a weekly treatment is going to be necessary. You may wish to try theBalm Enroot Conditioning Treatment Mask that brings anti-oxidants, rice proteins and bamboo extracts to your hair. Bamboo extracts have the effect of strengthening your hair while it restores moisture and increases the hair’s volume.

3. Microdermabrasion

As an anti-aging product, microdermabrasion is placed near the top. However, if used to often, microdermabrasion can have harsh side effects. When used on a weekly basis, it is extremely effective as an exfoliator and is even known as an alternative to the face lift. Sothy’s Renewal Microdermabrasion Mask is one example that will brighten your skin after every use.

4. Body Scrubs

The rest of your body needs to be exfoliated as much as your face does. For this purpose, people travel all the way to the Dead Sea to experience its therapeutic effects. You only need AHAVA Deadsea Salt Softening Butter Salt Scrub that contains Dead Sea salt to have similar results. Dead Sea salt has the effect of reducing deep wrinkles and making your skin feel nourished, clean and soft.

5. Whiten Your Teeth

As we age, our teeth become stained with the food we eat and the beverages that we drink. To combat this reality, a weekly teeth whitening routine that restores your smile to its former brilliance is warranted. However, teeth whitening doesn’t have to be a difficult procedure. The GoSmile On the Go Teeth Whitening Pen makes whitening your teeth simple with an easy-to-use pen that you can apply and go or take with you.

6. Brow Grooming

Sometimes, we neglect our eyebrows, but this will be less likely to occur if you have something like Youngblood’s Brow ARTISTE Kit. You will be able to ensure that your eyebrows are perfectly groomed every week with this product’s botanical brow wax that does not contain any parabens. The kit also comes with pigmented brow powder. This makes it possible for you to groom your eyebrows and end with a natural look.

7. Upper Lip Wax

The hair on the upper lip is a constant thorn in the sides of women especially if they color their hair. A weekly upper lip wax will eliminate this problem. It can be a simple matter of applying a wax strip to the area and quickly removing the unwanted hair. To achieve this goal, Bliss Poetic Waxing Wax Strips Face is an excellent choice because it is hypoallergenic and contains aloe vera. Aloe vera is a substance that has been known to ease the pain of wounds and also aids in healing.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair

April 18th, 2014 | Contributed by:

1. Use The Right Shampoo and Conditioner
The first step to having thick and luxurious looking hair is to use the right products in the shower. Many shampoos and conditioners focus on hydrating hair, which is a good thing, but thin hair can be weighed down and made to look limp. Replacing your current cleanser with either Hamadi – Honey Soymilk Hair Wash or Leonor Greyl – Bain Volumateur Aux Algues, both of which offer lightweight moisture and a volume boost, may make a huge difference in how full your hair appears.

7 Tips on How to Have Thicker Hair2. Don’t Let Long Hair Weight You Down
When it comes to making your hair look thicker, less can be more. The longer your hair is, the more weight it has, which can make it appear flat. Not only are shorter looks easier to manage, they also tend to look fuller. Getting a blunt cut with bangs or going for artfully arranged layers makes can make even baby fine hair appear full of volume.

3. Blow Dry Your Hair With The Right Tools
For many people with thin hair, blow drying is a must. However, you want to be sure that you are using the right tools and products when doing so. You should be using a product that will both protect your hair as well as add volume, such as Fekkai – COIFF Defense Pre-Style Thermal/UV Protectant. These types of products will help you get volume without also making hair appear brittle or lifeless due to heat damage.

4. Use Curlers and Rollers
Curls are a great way to pump up the volume in your hair, and you can easily achieve this using a curling iron or hot rollers. If you don’t want to go with ringlets, you can also add extra oomph to your hair by using large rollers that create a more wavy or tousled look.

5. Add Volume With Extensions
One way that a lot of models and actresses get extra volume is by using falls or extensions in their hair. There are both synthetic and natural hair pieces available, and most can be dyed to match your exact hair color. Additionally, you can choose your level of commitment; salons can put in extensions that last for months or you can purchase clip-ins for daily use.

6. Maintain Your Hair’s Health
If you’ve already got hair that is fine, it’s important to keep it looking healthy and shiny. Hair with numerous split ends and that looks dull will appear even flatter, and you are looking for volume, not frizz. Treatments like Leonor Greyl – Creme Regeneratrice can undo the effects of damage from heat and styling as well as adding volume to naturally thin hair.

7. Consider Your Diet
Getting fuller hair is more than about what you put on your head, it’s also about what you put in your body. Adding certain items to your diet or taking supplements can improve the building blocks your body has to work with when it comes to growing hair. Biotin, Zinc and B-Vitamins are all essential to healthy and full hair, so adding them to a diet that is lacking can speed up the growth of hair as well as improving its overall appearance.

Spring Manicure Trends

April 8th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Spring Manicure TrendsSpring is the traditional time for rebirth and renewal, which makes spring the perfect season for trying out new styles. Along with donning shorter skirts and outfits in brighter hues, trendsetters may want to experiment with unique colors and nail art techniques this spring. The word for Spring 2014 nails is “subtlety,” so step outside the box and elicit compliments wherever you go with the following understated spring manicure styles that are easy to do at home.

Tortoiseshell

The ombré nail trend is still going strong, but the coming of spring gives you the opportunity to play with it a little and make it your own. Try the tortoiseshell, or ecaille, technique as an alternative. Recently demonstrated as a hair technique by celebrity fashionistas including Jessica Alba and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, tortoiseshell fading also looks great on your nails. With this technique, two nail colors, usually complementary, fade into each other much more subtly than with traditional two-tone ombré contrasting.

Pearled

Who knew that the timeless elegance of pearls could come to life on your nails? For a simple touch of luxury that works perfectly with your favorite little black dress, coat your nails with two layers of a sweet-colored polish, like bubblegum pink or sky blue. Using tweezers, carefully add pearl rhinestones at the base of each nail, covering about one-third of the surface.

Textured

Textured nails were on display at New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2014 runways, and adding a bit of texture is a great way to have fun with your nails without being too gaudy or over-the-top. Start with a light pastel or Earth-toned polish. On a paper plate, mix the polish with a few teaspoons of coffee grounds or coarsely-ground sugar, then apply. Make your three-dimensional nails shine by finishing with a topcoat.

Radiant Orchid

Radiant Orchid, 2014’s color of the year is bold and striking, and it’s perfect for those who like to stand out. On your nails, use the tortoiseshell technique with Radiant Orchid and a lighter violet or lavender hue, or accent a neutral-toned outfit with Radiant Orchid polish and lipstick. Because nothing about Radiant Orchid is subtle, a small touch is all it takes to turn heads.
