Post Holiday Detox

December 23rd, 2014 | Contributed by:

Post Holiday DetoxMany people recovering from the holiday festivities may need to jumpstart their fitness routine with the help of a post-holiday detox. Detoxes can help a person feel rejuvenated after a lengthy season of indulging. Completing them regularly can restore health. Detoxes promotes much clearer thinking and an overall improved sense of well-being. Detoxing routinely has a slew of other benefits like anti-aging benefits and healthier hair. Everyone can benefit from an occasional detox to get back on track after the holidays.

Diets and detox

Many people examine the dietary options available to aid in detoxing. Some of the top superfoods can be effective with a detox. Cranberries are known to have antibiotic properties and are capable of ridding the body of accumulated bacteria and viruses from the urinary tract. Beets are one of the top foods for a detox because they can cleanse the liver, purify the blood and ward off infection. Broccoli is another power food. Their high concentration of phytochemicals can be quite effective in cleansing the liver. Lemons contain enzymes that when released in the body converts toxins in the system into waste that can be removed from the system. Lemon also balances alkaline levels to better maintain acidity in the system.

Bath soaks for detoxing

Detox baths consisting of baking soda, Epsom salt and lavender make for an incredible detox soak for those battling depression. For those who have arthritis or gout, soaking in an apple cider vinegar bath can do wonders. Soaking in a ginger bath can boost the immune system and also eliminate the likelihood of getting sick when cold symptoms start to appear. An energizing detox bath consisting of Epsom salt and ground ginger can do wonders for a person dealing with fatigue. Seaweed is another detoxing agent that promotes health skin. Seaweed is rich in minerals and is capable of absorbing a substantial amount of toxins.

Preparing for a detox

There are some things that a person should do in order to prepare properly for a detox. People who detox too quickly run the risk of complications like dizziness, constipation, insomnia, hunger, gas and irritability. Alcohol and caffeine should be eliminated on week prior to eliminating a detox. If taking any medications, it is very important to clear a detox with a physician. If a person is a diabetic, a shorter detox is much safer.

A post-holiday detox is a great way to get back on track after dining on delicious foods. Detoxing has been linked to improved energy levels. Less fatigue and fewer issues with bouts of depression have also been linked to detoxing. Whenever a person starts to experience fatigue or starts to feel sicker more often, a combination of detox diets and baths can do the trick.

Stocking Stuffers That Are Sure To Please

December 16th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Stocking Stuffers That Are Sure To Please“It was the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.” Gift giving is one of the joys and challenges of Christmastime, and part of gift giving is stuffing those stockings with gifts. Good stocking stuffers should be small, thoughtful, and useful. Gone are the days when stockings were stuffed with primarily candy canes and teddy bears. There is a plethora of options available now for all ages and interests. After a season full of splurging on sweets and running around busily, stuffing stockings full of things that aid in rejuvenating mind and body is a great idea.

Wintertime can be tough on skin and hair, so beauty products to help hydrate and enrich skin will be greatly appreciated. Travel sized lotions and creams are the perfect size for stockings. There are many travel sets that are decorative and can even double as a cute Christmas ornament too. As you choose your lotion and cream stocking stuffers be mindful of the quality of the ingredients. Many of the decorative sets available at this time of year may look and smell pretty, but be severely lacking in healthy ingredients that will improve the health of your skin. Look for beauty sets that look nice, smell nice, and provide vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants to the skin.

Small cosmetics also fit nicely into the stocking and will likely be appreciated by the ladies of your house. Be on the lookout for cute high quality blush palettes, nail polish, lip stick, and mini mascara. As with the moisturizers, it is important not to get so caught up in buying the most sparkly and fancy wrapped package that the ingredients become secondary. Check the ingredient list. Watch out for petroleum based products or items with excess phthalates and chemicals. Seek out cosmetics that not only beautify but also nourish skin with all natural and organic ingredients.

While cosmetics may not be appropriate or appreciated by the men or children of the household, the gift of health and beauty is still beneficial and can be gifted in a fun way. Harsh winter winds do not discriminate and will chap the manliest of lips. A good nutrient rich natural lip gloss is a great stocking stuff for male and female, young and old alike.

Stocking stuffers should be fun and personal. Items such as cozy socks and house slippers will be appreciated when toes are kept toasty warm this winter. Little girls love things such as hair bows and head bands too.

It is not always easy to come up with unique ideas when stuffing stockings, but with a little thoughtfulness and creativity, you can stuff stockings full of fun and healthy items for your loved ones.

Happy Movember!

November 1st, 2014 | Contributed by:

Happy MovemberIt is that time of year again when moustaches rule – the month of Movember. Movember was created by the Movember Foundation which encourages men to grow moustaches in an effort to bring awareness to men’s health as well as to fund research or treatment for prostate and testicular cancer. The organization’s vision is to deliver the message in a fun, unique manner.

Movember Rules

Movember has official rules which can be found on the foundation’s website. The first rule is that participants must sign up on the site to become a “Mo Bro” and begin the first of November with a clean-shaven face. For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache and only a moustache. They may not grow beards, goatees or use fake moustaches. As people ask why they are growing such a rich, luscious moustache, each Mo Bro is supposed to begin a conversation on men’s health. In addition, Mo Bro’s are asked to raise money in some manner to help prevent or develop cures for prostate and testicular cancer. Lastly, each Mo Bro must behave as a true gentleman.

Fund Raising Events

There are many options for fund raising during Movember. One suggestion on the website is to plan a Mo Party. Those who choose to host a Mo Party can register on the site and receive a free Mo Party pack in order to raise funds and encourage others to participate in Movember. Some areas have created running of the Mo’s, events that bring Mo Bros and Mo Sistas together. Many other running events are planned throughout the country to promote Movember as well. Shave the Date is the official start to Movember, where participants shave their faces in order to begin growing their Movember ‘stache. Although November 1 is the official Shave the Date, events can be held throughout the month for those who don’t mind getting a late start.

Grooming the Stache

Participating in Movember does not mean growing a big lump of hair under your nose that is unruly and unkempt. The moustache should be well-groomed and tidy, although it should draw attention to the man sporting it. The moustache should be shampooed regularly as bits of food can collect in it which no one really wants to have happen. Work in a tiny bit of conditioner as moustache hair is course. A soft, hot towel is perfect for cleansing the skin under the moustache to avoid drying and itching.

Choose the moustache style from the beginning and be sure to invest in the right tools for the job, such as barber scissors, clippers and fine-toothed combs. Beauty Bridge have everything you need to make your moustache part of a very Happy Movember!

A Guide to Mastering Hair Extensions

September 26th, 2014 | Contributed by:

A Guide to Mastering Hair ExtensionsIf there are times where you just want to do something with your hair that isn’t possible, then the most logical solution is to experiment with hair extensions. Hair extensions can make your hair look either new and refreshing, or just downright bad. It’s important that you know how to use them properly before going out and showing off your hair. Use this guide to help you make sure that you look great before you step out of the door.

Density

You need to make sure that the density of the hair extensions matches the density of your own hair. You can usually tell this just by feeling the extension and your own hair in your hands. For example, if you have fine hair, then adding too thick of an extension will make it look unnatural.

Strand Guidelines

As a general rule, you should add 3-5 rows on the side of the head, 2-5 rows at the nape and 2-5 rows at the perimeter to help the hair add volume. This will make the hair look very natural.

Consult a Professional

If you have no experience with hair extensions, you should definitely talk with a professional to determine what will look best on you. A professional will help guide you through the process, and they will also give you tips about how to take care of your extensions once they are finished. Hair extensions are expensive, so you need to make sure that they are done right.

If you are thinking about getting hair extensions you need to do the proper research before jumping right in. It is risky to get them done by someone who is not a professional, so that friend that says they can do it for you should have to prove themselves before you allow them to do work on your own hair. Research what type of look you would like, which length and also match the hair color to get the most flawless look.

Fall 2014 Hair Trends

September 18th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Fall 2014 Hair TrendsAs seasons change and summer begins to edge its way into fall, hair styles ebb and flow as well. As women put away their summer shoes and get out new, warmer wardrobes, they begin to think about new hairstyles and cuts as well. There are many different trends for hair this fall. Here are just a few options for 2014.

Low Fuss Lob
The lob is a longer version of the bob and it was a large trend during the summer months, but it is continuing its popularity into the fall. Women love the lob because it is easy to style, versatile, and flattering all at the same time. It also looks flattering on many face shapes.

Rich, Dark Color
In the fall, many women want to darken their sun-streaked hair and have a more deep, rich tone. Brunette colors that have some gold and red tones are popular this fall. The two tone highlighting gives the color more vibrancy and can highlight the eyes and brighten the skin.

Cropped Cuts
Short hair is very popular among celebrities and everyday women alike. Short hair is a huge trend this fall as women are starting to see that short hair is easy to wear and flattering at the same time. For an edgy look, women can tousle pieces of hair to the front. Hair cut to ear length can still be versatile and styled in many different ways.

Waves
Instead of tight curls, voluminous waves are a 2014 trend. Waves in longer hair along with a soft side part can make hair look va va voom sexy! The style can soften facial features and give off a polished look or it can be laid back and fun.

Platinum Blonde
Blonde hair is getting lighter and lighter as the seasons progress and right now, platinum is a big color, even during the fall months. It can be tricky to choose the exact right color of blonde for each skin tone, but when it is done correctly, it can really pop.

Center Parts
Defined parts that are in the center of the scalp are a go-to look for the fall. They can be accompanied by wavy hair, straight, ponytails, you name it! The center part is easy to adapt on any type of hair.

Side Sweep Bangs
Women who have bangs or want bangs should consider longer sections that can be swept to the side. They look natural and are easy to care for and they are at a high point in the trend meter this fall.

Get Your Home Ready for Fall

September 15th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Get Your Home Ready for FallFall brings forth a changing of outdoor foliage into stunning yellow, gold, and orange colors. As the world moves into the next season, your home should also make the transition. The right decorations in a home can make it cozy and inviting, while the wrong furnishings will make your fall life one of solitude.

The Kitchen

When you’ve made the decision to begin changing your home to match Mother Nature’s will, you should start with the decoration in the kitchen. Remove any remnants of summer from your cabinets, counters, and tables. Obviously, you don’t need to repaint the kitchen for a seasonal makeover, but it’s always an option.
You may also find your dining centerpiece needs to be changed. You can create a simple centerpiece by purchasing some gold and orange colored, artificial leaves. Use a glue gun to hold the pieces together in the shape of a wreath. Many people find candles, such as GloMineral’s Ambience candle, fitting in the center of the wreath.
To further enhance the kitchen’s appearance, purchase a warm-toned tablecloth. You can find fall themed tablecloths available in many stores. If you don’t want to be changing things after Halloween, it’s best to pick a cloth that doesn’t have any Halloween images or symbols on it. Fall colors will last the whole season, but the holidays change rapidly during this time of year. Purchase new golden or orange seat cushions for wooden kitchen chairs. If the chair has a bold, colored fabric covering already, such as green, purple, or blue, you should consider purchasing new chair coverings to completely tie the fall-theme together.

The Living Room

If you have an existing rug in the living room, consider swapping it with a brown, reddish, orange, or golden colored rug. This will bring guest’s attention to the living room. Make a second centerpiece, similar to the one for the kitchen table, to place on the center of the coffee table. Change current throws and pillows on the sofa to fall colors. Make this decision based upon the color of your furniture. Don’t change the color to something that is visually unappealing. Remove anything that evokes thoughts of the summer, such as sea-shells, ocean-scents, or unnecessary vacation photographs.

Bathrooms

Transforming the bathroom is easy. Change out the shower curtain and rugs with others containing fall colors. Add some of the artificial, fall foliage around the interior door frame of the bathroom. One of the most well-know fall scents is apples, and the Primal Element’s Appletini candle works excellently in bathrooms. Swap out existing towels with white or strong orange towels.

Decorating a home for the changing seasons can be overwhelming if you do not have the right tools. However, making some minor changes to the accessories in the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms will bring the fall season into your home easily.

Fall’s Hottest Shoe Trends

September 11th, 2014 | Contributed by:

Fall's Hottest Shoe TrendsWe’re not sure if the slight coolness in the air is real or wishful thinking, but either way it’s a sign that Fall is on its way. With that, it’s time start thinking about shelving all your summer sandals and look for new styles of the latest trends for Fall shoes. Here are our favorites.

Weaves
Perhaps the best fall shoe trend that we’re seeing to help you transition from the summer heat to crisp autumn cool is the weave. No, this is not the kind of weave that requires painstaking hair maintenance, but rather the woven leather shoe. While your summer sandals might have a looser woven leather with thick straps, the key to nailing this fall trend is finding the perfect weave with fine, narrow straps. From there, you can find some weaves with great geometric patterns and even highly contrasting colors. This great and breezy texture can be found on fall pumps, wedges, and flats, giving you the perfect option for any outfit.

Western Redux

While the oxford shoe has been a fall staple for many seasons, now, this fall, you can update that look by finding an oxford-style or similar lace-up shoe with classic western influences. Look for leather details that have the paisley and crescent-shaped cutouts often associated with Western style. A nice leather shoe with intricately burned patterns in the Western style could quickly become your new favorite shoe for the fall. Pair the shoe with a tailored and refined outfit or one punched up with jewel toned colors for fall, and you’ll make a perfect casual and fresh fall look.

Red
Not that a red shoe ever really goes out of style, but there’s something about putting a Marilyn-red pump on your foot that can really brighten the neutral tones and patterns typical of a fall outfit. If you’re going to be wearing any warm tweeds, rich corduroys, or autumn-hued denim from previous seasons, an easy way to make it fit with 2014 fall trends is to add a bright red pump to your look. Even if you’re trying to make those slightly faded burgundy jeans from a few years ago last one more season, pump it up with a bright red leather shoe. Not being afraid to mix those red and rosy color families will make old clothes look runway ready again.

Curvy Silhouettes
While so many shoe trends lately have been putting intense angles and hard edges on our feet, this year for fall, the trend will be shoes with curvy silhouettes. Heels that have a softer curve in the arch of the foot and a round but narrow toe will be the perfect fit for making your fall outfits on trend. Look for shoes that mix neutral tones. The result will be modernly chic but classically lady-like.
