Healthy Recipe For Healthy Hair

May 1st, 2015 | Contributed by:

Healthy Recipe For Healthy HairThe hair is a woman’s crowning glory; women feel and look their best when their hair looks great. It is very important for a woman’s hair to always be strong, thick, shiny and very well maintained.

Unfortunately, some women suffer different hair damages like falling hair, dry and brittle hair, dandruff, split ends, frizzy hair, etc., for various reasons like genes, excessive exposure to the elements and insufficient hair nutrition. The hair needs to be regularly supplied with the proper nutrients to make it strong and enable it to fight the harmful toxins in the environment.

For a healthy, glossy hair, include these in your diet:
• For dry and brittle hair, consume more proteins like eggs, milk, meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and nuts. Proteins help in repairing dull, lackluster hair.

• Iron provides nutrients to the hair follicle to prevent hair loss. Eat more red meat, chicken and leafy vegetables to raise the level of iron in your blood and promote hair growth for luscious, thicker hair.

• Strawberries, papaya, oranges and blueberries are some of the fruits that are very rich in vitamin C. Have more fruits to strengthen hair shafts and prevent hair loss.

• Omega-3 fatty acids from fish provide the oils that are helpful in hydrating the scalp and the hair that are dry and boring. Eat fish at least twice a week for a bouncy, shiny hair.

• The hair needs biotin for growth; eggs are rich in protein as well as biotin.

Here’s a healthy recipe that will provide some of the nutrition needed for a healthy and lustrous hair – protein, iron, vitamin C and omega-3.

Roasted Salmon with Grapefruit Sauce

4 salmon fillets
2 red grapefruits
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
2 tsp lemon juice
2-1/2 tsp honey
2 tsp olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Season the salmon with ¼ tsp salt and roast in the oven for about 18 minutes.
3. Slice some grapefruit for decoration. Juice the rest of the grapefruits and set aside.
4. In a medium skillet, heat the oil; sauté the ginger for about 2 minutes.
5. Mix in the grapefruit juice and honey, and bring to simmer until sauce is reduced by about half.
6. Add the lemon juice and season with salt.
7. Toss the grapefruit slices into the sauce before serving.
8. Spoon sauce over the salmon and serve.

Top 5 Makeup Organizers to Keep Your Vanity Neat and Tidy

April 24th, 2015 | Contributed by:

Top 5 Makeup Organizers to Keep Your Vanity Neat and TidyWhen it comes to putting on your makeup, we want it to be just as easy as you want it to be. That means keeping everything organized, so you can find it when you need it instead of having to search around everywhere. Clutter on your vanity or bathroom counter will discourage you from putting on your makeup because the makeup is likely hidden in that clutter somewhere, or your makeup brushes are now covered with hairspray and numerous other products from everything you keep on your counter. To keep you better organized, here are the top five makeup organizers.

1. NILECORP Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

This two-piece set includes drawers and a top organizer piece for holding brushes and your to-go makeup bag. Organize the drawers by area of the face – eyes, lips, cheeks – or by the order you put everything in. All of your brushes will fit in the small little compartments in the top piece, and you can place larger makeup kits in the larger compartment or use it to store the makeup bag you use when on the go.

2. InterDesign 3-Drawer Storage Organizer

Available in a variety of colors, this adorable 3-drawer set is perfect if you have a small amount of makeup. Your brushes can easily be stored in the top drawer, and your makeup can be stored in the last two drawers.

3. US Acrylic Audrey Cosmetic Vanity Organizer

If you already have somewhere that you store most of your makeup and just need something to hold the basics on your vanity, this is the perfect organizer for you. It comes with enough room for those essential brushes for eyes and cheeks, and it has enough space for foundation, eye shadow, and even a blush or two. Store your lipsticks in the smaller compartments, and you can even store your bottle of makeup remover in the larger, tall compartment.

4. Whitmore 5-Tier Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

For the woman who enjoys having a lot of color options, consider this 5-tier organizer. It comes with four easy-pull drawers made of a clear acrylic, so you can easily see all of your color options. Organize it the way you want, and use the top compartment with opening lid to store brushes or large makeup kits.

5. Coromose Foldable Makeup Container

This adorable little floral box comes in a variety of colors. The center of the box is perfect for storing your eyshadow, foundation, and other kits, and you can use the outside pockets and slip-through rings to hold your brushes, mascaras, and eyeliners.

Finding the right organizer depends on your makeup needs. Each of these organizers is different, but they all have one thing in common – they will store your makeup and create a more organized space for your beauty routine.

Spring Clean Your Skin

April 3rd, 2015 | Contributed by:

Spring Clean Your SkinLooking good gives you the confidence to best ensure you are able to succeed in both your business and personal life. While you can try new cosmetics and different hairstyles, getting to the base of your appearance is the best way to ensure you always look your best. This season, take the time to spring clean your skin following these helpful tips.

With technology expanding, we are constantly witnessing the introduction of new and exciting innovation, and this stands true in the area of personal aesthetics. We all crave an smooth, even tone, and you can now achieve that goal with the use of electrotherapy. Products such as the Innovative Facial Toner have been approved by the FDA and are open for consumer purchase. These devices are able to target facial muscles susceptible to atrophy after age 30, and they help slow down the development of wrinkles. For less than $200, you can purchase one at Beauty Bridge.

Fun Without the Sun

Whether you have exceptionally pale skin or just wish to add a sun-kissed glow to your appearance, it can be tempting to go use a tanning bed or hit the beach for a session. While this may temporarily increase your aesthetic appeal, the long-term effects are not worth it. Aside from skin cancer, excessive exposure to the sun can also cause wrinkles, freckles, fine lines, and discoloration. However, this does not mean you can’t enjoy the boost a tan provides. Purchase a bronzer. It is applied like foundation and gives you that sun-kissed look without the dangers.

Treat Yourself

A little attention can do a lot for your appearance, and treating your skin to a spa-day at home can provide nourishment that will leave you feeling refreshed. First, identify what type of skin you have, and then purchase a mask that is appropriate for you. For example, if you have normal skin, a botanical mask would be suitable. Other skin types include:

  • Oily skin: opt for a mud mask
  • Dry skin: choose an avocado mask

Despite your skin type, there is a mask anyone can make at home and use. Simply combine one cup of oatmeal and two tablespoons of honey and stir in warm water. Apply and allow mixture to sit for ten minutes for a noticeable boost.

While our regular beauty regimen is beneficial, taking the time to employ further techniques is a great way to both look and feel great. An effective way to refresh your skin after a busy day is to mix one part alcohol with six parts water and place it in a spray bottle. A quick spritz will leave you feeling energized and rejuvenated.

New Too Faced Products for Spring!

March 28th, 2015 | Contributed by:

New Too Faced Products for Spring! All Winter long you’ve been waiting for the cold to thaw out so you can put your hair up, slip on a short dress, and sit on the patio with your gal pals. You’ve also been longing for the day when your skin isn’t dry and your face looks young and fresh again. But all you need to get there, just a little bit sooner, are three little products.

First, you’ll want to smooth your skin over with Too Faced’s new Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. Think of your face as a canvas, for a piece of art you’re going to show the world. Every good artist knows you have to use a primer. But Too Faced’s new primer does more than act as a primer. It hydrates and brightens skin for a dewy, healthy-looking finish, so you can wear it alone like a moisturizer. The formula combines coconut water, probiotics and skin revivers, which work together to perk up your face for a wide-awake look. No one will ever wonder if you got enough sleep the night before, even if you were out all night on the town or up all night preparing for finals.

The next step is to brush on a pretty bronzer-blush duo like Too Faced’s Soul Mates Blushing Bronzer in “Ross and Rachel”. This product works double duty to create a natural look with a pop of color. Start by using a brush to apply a light layer of bronzer to your face, avoiding the cheeks, the center of your forehead, and the bridge of your nose. This will give you a natural contour and warmth. For your cheeks, you’ll brush on the bright pink blush for a flushing, sun-kissed glow.

The third step, which you won’t want to skip, is to give yourself a soft, kissable lip with one application. Too Faced’s new Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in “Melted Chihuahua has a funny name but offers serious results. If you want the staying power of a stain without the dryness, this lipstick will give your lips a smooth, healthy appearance all day. Don’t bother starting with a liner because you don’t need it. The stain comes packed in a precision-tip applicator to give you that clean line you need. The neutral shade offers a glossy contrast to your bold cheeks and looks natural without looking drab.

Add just a touch of mascara and tie your hair into a simple low ponytail, and you’re ready to face the new season.

Spring Hair Color Trends

March 27th, 2015 | Contributed by:

Spring Hair Color TrendsAs the doldrums of winter fade and Spring heats up, new hair color trends abound to compliment the season. Several shades and styles are gaining popularity, such as white-blonde shades, copper and the intermingling styles of ombre and ecaille.

Platinum Blonde

Dyeing hair platinum blonde is the perfect trend for Spring, as a brighter color can correspond to the brighter, longer days. If a trendsetter has the skin tone to be able to rock this super-light blonde, it is gorgeous. People with fair, cool skin tones look lovely with the platinum blonde hue. Dark skin tones should generally steer clear, although certain warm and olive tones can pull of this style beautifully. Check with a beauty and hair consultant before making your final decision, as going platinum blonde can be a drastic change regardless of skin type or previous experimentations with color.

Platinum blonde hair also has a tendency toward dryness, so those donning this type of coif will want to keep their tresses extra moisturized with conditioners and oil-based styling products.

Copper Red

Once considered a rarity amongst celebrities and in salons, this fiery hue has been making its way onto the scalps of many consumers and A-listers. Coppery reds are especially popular right now, although there are several different shades and ranges of intensity within the red color family. Consult with a stylist to find out which shade is best for your skin stone.

Gorgeous and vibrant, red color dyes are–sadly–the fastest hue to fade and/or wash out. To preserve the color as long as possible, choose some quality color protective shampoos and products.

The nation mourned when Jared Leto chopped off his signature ombre cascade. This Spring, many will want to continue the trend, which features darker hair at the roots fading into lighter hues at the ends. When selecting a stylist, be sure it is someone who has experience with this type of dye job and leaf through some different photos of your preferred ombre look beforehand. When done correctly, ombre is a beautiful, natural look that offers body and dimension to color. If done wrong, the look can simply appear as an exaggerated display of one neglecting root touch-ups.

Similar to ombre, ecaille is a style that originated in France and features various intermingling tones throughout the hair. This look normally features colors within the different family of different shades. A caramel brown can be laced with golden blondes in order to create natural dimension. Talk to a stylist about best colors to match your skin tone before deciding which hues to request in order to achieve the look.

Prom Prep 101: How To Prepare From Head To Toe

March 20th, 2015 | Contributed by:

Prom Prep 101: How To Prepare From Head To ToeIf you’re gearing up for prom, then you probably want to look your absolute best on the big night. While hair and makeup will certainly help you to look like your very best you, the best way to truly be glowing on prom night is by preparing ahead of time. Here is a guide on how to prep for prom from head to toe.

Hair Prep
If you want your hair to look stunning in its prom night style, then you need to give it some TLC in the weeks leading up to your salon appointment. Great hair is hair that is healthy and moisturized. In the weeks leading up to prom, use a deeply repairing hydrating mask twice a week. The Hamadi Shea Hair Mask will help to put moisture back into hair and to seal split ends.

Face Prep
No one wants to go to prom with a face full of blemishes. It’s important to stick to a good skincare regimen in the months leading up to prom. However, be sure not to overdo it, as adding too many new skincare products at once can lead to breakouts. For a simple nightly routine, remove all makeup and cleanse with a gentle cleanser like the Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Cleanser. Follow up with a treatment that contains salicylic acid, such as the Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Overnight Acne Treatment Pads. Always follow up an anti-acne treatment with a great hydrating moisturizer to beat dryness. Philosophy Hope in a Jar is a great nighttime moisturizer for all skin types.

Body Prep
If your dress shows a little skin, then you need to banish winter dryness and flakiness. The best way to do this is by using an exfoliating scrub in the shower, like the Get Fresh SPA Sugar Body Scrub. Rub in circular motions all over the skin, including the hands and feet. When you get out of the shower, use a super heavy body butter to truly seal in moisture. The JAQUA Buttercream Frosting Sinfully Rich Body Butter is not only super moisturizing, but smells absolutely heavenly.

Pick The Perfect Fragrance
Prom is the perfect excuse to splurge on a new perfume. If you’re a body spray kind of girl, it’s time to give perfume a try on prom night. Pick something youthful but sophisticated. Viva La Juicy La Fleur by Juicy Couture is a perfect young, floral scent.

Prom is one of the biggest nights of any young woman’s life. If you follow these tips in the months leading up to the big day, you’ll be absolutely glowing and beautiful at prom. As a final tip, make sure to book your hair and makeup appointments early. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll glow on that big night.

The Top Five Hair Hacks

March 3rd, 2015 | Contributed by:

The Top Five Hair HacksWhen your hair isn’t cooperating, it’s hard to feel your best. Your stylist might try to sell you on tons of treatments, but there are tons of hair hacks that you can do in your own home for a wide array of basic hair problems. Here are five hair concerns and five hacks that will help you to banish these problems for good.

Problem One: Dry, Split Ends

The Hack: If you have dry and split ends but don’t have time to see your stylist, you can mask the solution by using oil. Just a few drops of oil, rubbed into your hands and then pressed against your ends, will create the illusion of a sealed cuticle. Nothing can fix split ends, but using oil on your ends can mask their appearance. If the idea of putting oil in your hair seems a bit too freaky, try a cream with oil mixed in, like the Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Creme.

Problem Two: A Scalp That Feels Dry, But Looks Greasy

The Hack: If frequent shampooing has left your scalp feeling dry, then it might be time to cut back to once or twice a week. However, sometimes even if your scalp feels dry, it might look greasy. This is why every woman should have a can of dry shampoo in her arsenal. Dry shampoo soaks up oil at the scalp, but isn’t as drying as actual shampoo. Try the Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo.

Problem Three: Visible Roots

The Hack: If your roots are showing but you still have weeks before your next color session, try a concealing hair powder like the Oscar Blandi Pronto Hair Shadow Root Concealing Kit. This concealing powder is applied with a brush, just like you would apply powdered makeup to your face. No one will be able to tell that you’re overdue for an appointment with your colorist.

Problem Four: You’ve Been Shampooing Less, And Your Hair Smells Like Sweat

The Hack: More and more women are shampooing less in order to keep their hair naturally hydrated and vibrant. However, even with shampoo, sometimes our hair can start to smell a little off if we haven’t shampooed in a while. Luckily, there are plenty of new hair-specific perfumes on the market. Try a hair fragrance mist like this one from Fekkai.

Problem Five: No Product or Treatment Seems To Help Your Hair

The Hack: If your hair doesn’t seem to respond to any product or styling treatment, then it might be time to consider treating it from the inside. Add a hair, skin and nail supplement like the Russell Organics Power Repair For Skin, Nails and Hair to your daily regimen. Over time, you’ll start to see improved growth and volume.

Keeping your hair gorgeous can be tricky. However, if you incorporate these hair hacks into your routine, you’ll have better, shinier hair in no time.

The Right Pastels for Your Skintone!

February 28th, 2015 | Contributed by:

The Right Pastels for Your Skintone!Pastels are always great for spring wardrobes. However, pastels are more popular than ever this year. Not only are women gravitating towards pastel hues for their clothing, but pastels are popping up in makeup and nail trends as well. Furthermore, many women are adding pastel streaks or ombre accents to their hair. Some pastels work better on some skin tones than others. Here’s a guide on how you can determine the right pastel hue for your skin tone.

Dark Skin Tones
Those with very dark skin tones are lucky, because they can pull off pastels that are downright unflattering on fairer women. While yellow nail polishes and eyeshadow hues can make fair women look borderline sickly, yellow pops in an absolutely stunning way on women with dark skin. Women with darker skin tones should avoid pale lavender eyeshadow shades and lipsticks, as they can look glaring on darker skin tones.

Medium Skin Tones
Women with medium skin tones are fortunate. They can pull off almost all pastel hues. If you want to be fashion forward for spring, try a bold new makeup look. Olive and medium skinned women can pull off bold purple and baby pink lipsticks absolutely beautifully.

Fair Skin Tones
Those with fair skin tones are a bit limited, as a lot of pastels can easily wash them out. When choosing pastel shades, avoid pale yellows and greens. Baby blue and rich pinks pop beautifully on fair skin. If you’re incorporating pastel hues into your hair, try light shades like lavender. Dark streaks can be a little overwhelming on fair women.

Pastels aren’t just gorgeous, but they are cheery and utterly perfect for spring. When wearing pastels, no matter what you skin tone, be sure not to overdo it. If you’re wearing a bold pastel makeup look, pick a more neutral outfit. If you’re wearing pastel clothing, choose basic makeup in earth tones. If you wear pastel from head-to-toe, you can easily start to look like a walking Easter egg. Instead, balance out your look in order to do the pastel trend right.

Going Gluten Free

February 14th, 2015 | Contributed by:

Going Gluten Free
The benefits of going gluten free are vast. The foods you eat and the beauty products you use can be seen immediately in your skin health. Read on to see what possibilities await you.

Lets start with the basics; your diet. The foods you put in your body will definitely show on your skin. Unhealthy foods will result in an unhealthy skin appearance which comes as no surprise, right? And we know that healthy foods generally produce a nicer complexion to the skin. There is a way to take it one step further and see even better results. Or maybe you haven’t seen results at all with this technique. The answer very well may be to go gluten free. Gluten is the substance that holds food together, somewhat like a glue, and a surprising amount of individuals are either allergic to this ingredient, or sensitive to it. Unfortunately, gluten is in almost everything, and it will take a bit of effort to avoid it. It’s in almost all breads and also in so many other things from candy to sauces. Really get into the practice of reading your food labels. One of the serious issues gluten can cause is a problem with digestion. When your body can’t effectively digest the foods you’re putting in it, the excess may appear on your skin in the form of breakouts, eczema, psoriasis, or plain irritation. When you remove this substance, your body will not have to work so hard to break down the foods, and your entire digestive systems will get a break. Beautiful skin starts there on the inside.

Once you’ve gotten your diet under control and gluten free, move on to your topical skincare and beauty products. Finding products that exclude this ingredient will assist in further keeping your skin clear, smooth, and beautiful. Start with the EOS Lipbalm since that is one of the products we apply the most during the cold winter months. Even trace amounts of gluten in topical products can be absorbed into the skin and cause problems with someone sensitive to it. Think about lotions, hair products, cosmetics, even nail polish.

Keep in mind that gluten hides in so many unlikely places, and you’ll need to be quite the detective to find it. Start slowly if you have to, but gradually make the switch to being completely gluten free and your body will rush to thank you. Health will abound on the inside and out!
