Want to make sure your lipstick always looks even, smooth and flawless? Want to know that every time you kiss your sweetie’s face, he’ll love feeling your pillow-soft pout? Taking care of your mouth is important, from your teeth to your tongue to your lips! Here are three tips for a smudge-proof smile that’s as healthy as it is beautiful.
1. Exfoliate your lips. Your exfoliate your face and body, so why not exfoliate your lips? They can accumulate as much dry skin as any other area of your body, so refreshing them from time to time with a little scrub will reveal a smoother, prettier pout. A quick and easy way to exfoliate your grin at home is by using a little warm water on a damp washcloth. Rub for a few minutes, then rinse. For added scrubbing powder, gently brush your lips with your toothbrush.
2. Stay hydrated. If you don’t drink enough water, your lips will chap! Try to drink a few eight ounce glasses each day, staggering them throughout the day for even hydration. You can also drink non-sweetened juices and tea (but make sure it’s not caffeinated – caffeine is actually a diuretic that will dry you out). Not only will your lips stay soft and clean, your skin will look healthier and you’ll feel better, too!
3. Use lip balm. Try a version with SPF25 or above to protect your pout from sunburn – and keep that lip balm handy in the winter, too, when falling temperatures can cause cracks and snowstorms can lead to windburn.
