The Best Met Gala Beauty
The Met Gala is one of the most popular fashion events that is celebrated each year. Celebrities are always walking the red carpet while flaunting gorgeous gowns. It is the official kick-off of the Costume Institute’s exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Besides the dresses, all eyes are on hair and makeup. Here is a look at the best Met Gala beauty for 2014.

Live Like Blake Lively

Blake Lively displayed her retro fashion sense with her nude colored Gucci gown and elegant long, wavy hairstyle. She accentuated her eyes with long and lush lashes but also included a nice pink lipstick. She truly looked as if she was part of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Flawless Beyonce

Beyonce is one of the most beautiful people on the planet. At this year’s Met Gala, she displayed a dramatic look. She slicked her hair back and topped it with a birdcage veil. Her chandelier earrings were just as extreme as her dark red lipstick. Her eyes shimmered in gold shadow as well. Her black Givenchy dress was equally as exquisite with its plunging neckline and see-through covering.

Classic Selena Gomez

Gomez wore a dark berry colored dress with matching lipstick to the 2014 Met Gala. To appear more sophisticated, she wore her hair in an elegant updo. To fill in her face, she wore large diamond dangle earrings. The look was not complete without her signature smoldering eyes that were made up with silver and white liner.

Nicole Richie and the Color Purple

Nicole Richie always manages to mix fun with elegance. To the 2014 Met Gala, she wore a lavender Donna Karan dress. To balance the asymmetrical creation, she wore diamond encrusted ear cuffs to accentuate her purple hairdo. The look was completed with an application of a glittery eyeshadow.

Olivia Munn

Munn oozed sexuality at the 2014 Met Gala in her Diane Von Furstenberg daffodil colored dress. The long sleeve gown covered her arms but exposed her cleavage. It matched beautifully with her dark hair and winged hair pin. To offset the freckles on her face she wore bright orange lipstick, which tied the whole look together.

Unlike 2013, this year’s Met Gala was filled with much less edgy fashion choices. The theme for 2014 centered around beautiful couture dresses with refined and elegant hair and makeup. Obviously, this trend will continue and spill over into everyday style as well.

Best beauty looks from the AMA Awards

The American Music Awards are a distinctive affair – unlike the Grammys, winners are honored based on votes by music buyers and the general public as opposed to panel members. That means that the artists who go home with the trophies are decided by the fans themselves. This year's event attracted some of the most talented and stylish acts in the industry, so there was stiff competition for the awards. Although it was no doubt a close call when it came to the standout performers of 2013, it's just as difficult to determine who had the best look.

Here are some of the stars who really shone on the red carpet:

Taylor Swift
Swift was on fire at the AMAs, and not only because of her sultry look. The singer went home with a whopping four awards, including Favorite Album – Country, Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist – Pop or Rock and Favorite Female Artist – Country. So it's no surprise that her makeup was just as crowd-pleasing as her music. Swift went with a chocolate brown smoky eye, bronzed cheekbones and a perfect pink pout, a combination which well complemented her sparkly gold gown.

Rihanna
This diva went home with the award for Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B, but she came with a jaw-dropping look as usual. Despite the fact that she was rocking a dramatic black glitzy bustier dress, she kept her makeup relatively simple. Winged black liner all around her eyes gave her some serious allure, while a radiant complexion and muted mauve lipstick softened things up for a feminine and flirty finished effect. Even her lids were relatively toned down, with just a sweep of shimmery taupe eyeshadow.

Christina Aguilera
As per usual, Aguilera was channeling her inner retro goddess at the AMAs, and not just because of her platinum blonde curly locks. The judge of "The Voice" opted for a classic cat-eye and a glamorous glossy pout, which gave her a vintage glam vibe. A dab of highlighter on her browbone and ultra voluminous lashes put her peepers in the spotlight, but her fire engine red lips definitely drew some attention, too.

Ciara
Sometimes less is more when it comes to makeup, and Ciara definitely proved that at the AMAs this year. The singer was rocking bold brows, bronze eyeshadow and lush long lashes, and her skin looked impossibly radiant. However, she stuck with a neutral lip shade that kept her overall look somewhat understated. Even though she didn't win the award for Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B, her makeup was a major success.

Beauty tips from Victoria's Secret models

Victoria's Secret models are a rarity when it comes to beauty. In fact, according to Elle magazine, chief marketing officer for the company Edward Razek says that they are less common that superstar athletes. He estimates that there are fewer than 100 women in the entire world that have what it takes to strut the catwalk at the VS Fashion Show, and only 33 were selected. While it undoubtedly takes phenomenal genes and a lot of gym time to look as good as they do, there are some beauty secrets that can make anyone look nearly runway-ready.

Here are some tips from the models themselves:

Karolina Kurkova
Want a flawless face like Kurkova's? The answer lies in three simple products: an oil-free primer, illuminating foundation and iridescent finishing powder. Diane Kendal, makeup artist for NARS, told Elle that this combination makes skin look as if it's glowing from the inside.

Toni Garrn
What's the one must-have in Garrn's makeup regimen? Highlighter, according to Fashionista. She noted that she's been dabbing it along her browbone and on the bridge of her nose since she was 14 years old. Jessica Hart is another model who has a penchant for this product, but she uses it high on her cheekbones.

Behati Prinsloo
There's one trend that the VS Angels were rocking all over the recent runway: the brown smoky eye. New York Daily News reported that Prinsloo begins by brushing a pale eyeshadow across her lids. Then, she dabs a darker brown into the crease. With an angled eyeliner brush, she carefully sweeps more of the deep pigment along her lower lashline and then along the top. This way, she doesn't even have to use eyeliner to define her eyes. Finally, she adds a couple coats of a rich brown-black mascara and dabs some illuminator from the browbone all the way around to the undereye area to draw light to her peepers.

Adriana Lima
There's one trick that can make your eyes look significantly bigger, like Lima's. To get the doe-eyed effect, makeup artist Tom Pecheux told Elle that you can apply individual false lashes just at the outer edge of your eye. Or, he explained that you could simply keep extending your eyeliner at the outer corners and your eyes will appear larger.

Jourdan Dunn
Dunn doesn't like to use fake lashes, but she does have a tip that can fake the same effect. She told Fashionista that she simply places a card behind her lashes so that she can apply more pressure while sweeping on mascara, pushing against the paper.

Kourtney Kardashian’s 5 minute makeup routine

Kourtney Kardashian's 5 minute makeup routine

It's not easy being a busy mom and still looking gorgeous, but Kourtney Kardashian seems to manage. Whether she's brunching with her sisters on "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," strutting down the red carpet or taking care of Mason, this stylish socialite and designer always looks put together. So how does she do it?

Apparently, the mom-meets-fashion-maven keeps things pretty simple when it comes to her makeup routine. If you're looking to adopt her minimalistic approach, here are some tips from Kourtney herself:

The essentials
In an interview with E! News, the Kardashian sister explained that when she's in "mommy mode," she sticks with a tried and true regimen that only takes her five minutes. Plus, it's so easy that she can multitask by keeping an eye on the kids while getting ready. So what are the absolute must-have products?

First, she starts with tinted moisturizer to even out her complexion. This allows her to get sheer coverage and a flawless canvas without a caked-on or artificial effect, which is ideal for a daytime look. Then she quickly dabs concealer under her eyes or on any problem areas.

The most important step is sweeping on some bronzer to add color and dimension to her face. In fact, Kourtney explained to Glamour magazine that the one makeup trick that she absolutely could not live without is contouring and highlighting, particularly around her cheekbones and nose.

The final touch? Curling her eyelashes and adding a layer or two of mascara. She also says she likes to finish her routine with a spritz of refreshing rosewater.

Day to night
According to Kourtney, boyfriend Scott Disick actually prefers the "less is more" look when it comes to her makeup.

Still, there are a few things that Kourtney might change up now and then when she wants a little more drama. Namely, she's apt to reach for a more dramatic lip shade if she's going out for the night with Scott or her girlfriends.

The makeup move she feels most confidently about is liquid liner application. This is a key product in her evening routine as it defines her eyes with a low risk of smudging. According to Glamour magazine, Kourtney says the applicator is key for a perfect line. She prefers a felt tip, which she says is easier to use when you want a really sleek line.

Winning looks from the MTV Video Music Awards

We already saw some impressive looks at the Teen Choice Awards earlier this summer, but stars at the VMAs brought beauty to a whole new level. Two major makeup trends emerged this year, which happen to be on opposite sides of the spectrum. While some artists opted for a natural look, others went all out with bold colors and dramatic hairstyles. Either way, these celebs definitely caught some attention for their daring decisions.

Barely there
When you’re rocking an ornate dress, it’s sometimes best to tone down your makeup. In fact, plenty of performers kept their makeup palette neutral so as not to overpower their ensemble. Ciara, who wore an eye-catching Givenchy gown adorned with sparkles and feathers, was one of them. Her dress wasn’t the only thing that was sheer, either – the singer rocked a radiant complexion, natural lips and soft taupe eyeshadow.

Ellie Goulding is another celeb that went for subtle beauty. The British pop star donned an elaborate nude floor-length gown, which was completely covered in silver spikes. Considering her intricate ensemble, Goulding made a wise choice in opting to keep her makeup to a minimum. Barely rosy lips and a faint glow on her cheeks were just enough to complement her stunning outfit.

Supermodel Coco Rocha wins the award for most understated beauty, however. She took a fashion risk by opting for black skinny jeans and a leather moto jacket instead of a formal frock, but her makeup helped to take some of the edge off her striking look.

Shock and awe
Taylor Swift looked like a 1940s Hollywood starlet at the VMAs, which was dramatically different than her typical style. Her chin-length blonde locks were perfectly curled into loose ringlets that recalled Marilyn Monroe’s famous ‘do. Meanwhile, red lipstick and nail lacquer added to the elegance and contrasted her navy blue Max Azria gown.

Though Miley Cyrus was rocking red lips as well, her eccentric hair knots and bold eyebrows made for a totally different effect.

Jennifer Hudson hit the nail on the head beauty-wise, wearing makeup fit for a diva. She softened up an edgy black leather pencil skirt, metal choker and chunky cuffs with pale pink lipgloss and a coy cat eye.

Selena Gomez also drew some attention on the red carpet. Sleek, straight locks and vibrant fuchsia lips were the highlight of the nominee’s look, and perfectly complemented a jaw-dropping navy dress.

Top beauty looks from the 2013 Teen Choice Awards

We certainly learned some fashion and beauty lessons from the established actresses at the Emmy Awards and the Tony Awards this year, and there's plenty more to learn from the young trend-setters at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. No matter your age or personal style, you can take a cue from these starlets for a daring new look that's just as wearable for every day as it is on the red carpet.

Au naturale
Some of the young starlets at this year's awards proved that less is often more when it comes to makeup. For example, Jordin Sparks appeared virtually bare in terms of beauty products, but still managed to look flawless with perfectly arched eyebrows and a subtly shimmering eyeshadow. For a similar effect, trace your lips with a liner that's only a half shade darker than your natural color and then glaze over them with a sheer lip balm.

Another star who went for the beauty bare minimum is Nina Dobrev, who sported a pink glow on her cheekbones and a neutral lip color. The main attraction of this starlet's look was her luxuriously long lashes. If you want to copy Dobrev, don't forget to sweep mascara on both top and bottom lashes, which really makes eyes pop. And who knew a ponytail could be so chic? Parade recommended trying a mussed up version like Dobrev's to give the hairstyle a sizzling appeal.

Saccharine sweet
Other actresses opted for a more innocent, youthful look – this is the Teen Choice Awards, after all. The secret to Maia Mitchell's angelic appearance isn't her halo-like braided hair style, despite what you may think. Follow Mitchell's lead by dabbing a tiny bit of copper shimmer into the inner corners of your eyes and along your bottom lashline.

Lucy Hale perfected the girl next door look with a side part, soft waves and petal pink lipstick. For the same kind of understated glamor, trace your eyes with a fine-tipped liquid liner on both the top and bottom.

Brittany Snow rocked a slightly more vibrant take with bright coral lips, which truly made her iceberg-blue eyes stand out. The key to getting Snow's fresh-faced appearance is to forgo eyeliner completely and choose a mega lash-boosting mascara.

Bold and becoming
Some of the attendees definitely amped up their makeup this year, including the former Disney starlet Selena Gomez. A sharp cat-eye and some sheer lipgloss are all you need for this alluring look. Or you could take a cue from Bella Thorne, who proved that nude lips and a metallic brown smoky eye are steamy enough to command attention. Tia Mowry also turned heads with her unconventional electric violet eyeliner.

Bare all with nude lips

Bare all with nude lips

Sometimes subtlety can make a bigger impact than a loud statement. Take nude lips, for example: Celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Heidi Klum have been rocking this au-natural look both during the daytime and on the red carpet at night. Beauty expert Anastasia Soare, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez and Penelope Cruz, explained to FOX News that nude lips don't fight for attention, letting you amp up your other features, whether that entail highlighting eyes with emerald liner or going for a bold peach cheek. There are endless opportunities when it comes to this trend. No matter your skin tone, you can make the look your own by following these simple tips:

Choose your weapon
First, you'll want to find a lip color that complements your complexion. Those with alabaster skin should opt for a shade with rosier undertones to avoid looking washed out, and fair-to medium-skinned ladies should also select hues on the pinker side of the spectrum. Olive skinned beauties look stunning in a sheer nude that has a coral base, while darker complexions are radiant with a pale petal gloss. The idea isn't to choose a shade that matches your skin, but rather one that slightly amplifies your natural lip color.

It's also important to consider the formula. LeAura Luciano, a makeup artist that's worked with Zoe Saldana and Amanda Seyfried, told FOX that shiny and shimmery glosses actually make teeth look whiter, while glittery colors can cause the illusion of a gray tint. She also advised against using ultra-matte lipsticks, which can dry out your lips, making lines and cracks more visible.

A range of possibilities
Now you'll need to decide on the overall look you're trying to achieve. If you're going for barely there, understated beauty, Elle magazine recommended keeping things simple with black eyeliner and a coat or two of mascara. However, nude lips also present the perfect chance to wear that vibrant, daring eyeshadow you've been dying to try. Alternatively, Elle suggested that you can pair neutral lips with a dramatic smoky eye by smudging your eye pencil and using a volume-boosting mascara.

Finishing touches
No matter the statement you're trying to make, Luciano stressed that the key to making nearly naked lips work is never overpowering them with too much pigment elsewhere. Still, he advised sweeping blush onto your cheekbones for a "healthy glow."

Even though you put in some work for the perfect nude look, people will just think your lips are naturally that gorgeous.

Trend alert: How to create a brown smoky eye

Trend alert: How to create a brown smoky eye

While black is traditionally the color of choice for a smoky eye, brown can be just as smoldering. Mix it up with shades of burnt sienna or dark chocolate, which have been sported by celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Keira Knightley on the red carpet. The best part? This look works just as well for day or night.

Always start with an eyeshadow primer to make sure the pigment stays in place. Next, opt for The Daytime Eye Shadow Kit by Jane Iredale, which offers an array of perfect dark neutral hues in one convenient palette. Start with Almond as a base, which will help the other layers of color to appear richer and more vibrant. You can also dab Oyster over the browbone as a highlighter. After that, layer on the soft Cappuccino for a little more depth and be sure to blend the edges across the eyelid crease.

Next comes the most important step in getting the smoky effect. Using a dense blending brush, sweep Dark Suede from the outer corners of the eyes into the crease, blending as you go to avoid any harsh lines.

Finally, draw Too Faced’s Perfect Eyes Waterproof Pencil in Espresso across the upper lashline and carefully along the lower lashes. Finish with a few coats of brown Superiore State-of-the-Art Mascara from Borghese, focusing on the outer corners of your lashes.

Just remember to keep the rest of your makeup understated: A sweep of gloss over the lips and a natural-looking bronzer or blush are enough to complete the look without overpowering the face.

Rachel Bilson rocks retro beauty

Rachel Bilson rocks retro beauty

Rachel Bilson has always emanated the epitome of clean-cut, girl-next-door beauty. But recently, at the L.A. premiere of her new movie The To Do List, she went with a more daring look that recalled Amy Winehouse’s retro-inspired cat eyes. Bilson’s look was both edgy due to black fingernails and sweet with just a pop of pink flush on her lips. Take a cue from the starlet by following these steps.

The main focal point of Bilson’s makeup was her drastic winged out eyeliner. After applying eye primer, sweep POP Beauty’s Cat Eyes angled pencil in Black Onyx on the upper lash line, flicking upward at the end to achieve the same coy shape. Next, boost lashes with the Hy-Performance Mascara by being TRUE cosmetics. The brush not only gives you volume and length, but also separates and curls lashes while conditioning them at the same time. Wiggle the wand back and forth from the roots to the ends at the center first and apply at the corners last.

Full Bloom Cheek & Lip Creme Color by Too Faced in sweet pea is the perfect shade for Bilson’s fresh-faced flush – and it works as a lipbalm, too. With a combination of flower extracts and vitamins, the formula is nourishing and hydrating to both lips and cheeks.

Don’t forget to apply a few coats of the Lippmann Collection I Fought The Law Nail Lacquer for punk rocker nails.

Kate Hudson wows with bold makeup

Kate Hudson wows with bold makeup

All eyes were on Kate Hudson as the star walked the red carpet at the first annual Novak Djokovic Gala in London July 8. The actress reveled in the spotlight thanks to her flawless makeup, which combined dark eye makeup with a lighter, more playful shade of lip color.

Hudson let her green eyes stand out with the help of black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow. She outlined her entire eye with the bold liner, complementing it with slightly lighter, purple-gray shadow framing her eyes. This unique smokey eye was perfectly done and certainly had the actress looking mysterious.

Many celebrities have rocked bright lips recently, and Hudson must have taken note of this trend. Her fuchsia lipstick was a great balance with her dark eyes, and it worked without becoming too bright and clashing with the rest of her look.

The dramatic makeup meshed well with her edgy gray dress. Thanks to a studded clutch and asymmetrical hemline, there was a distinct punk feel to the ensemble, which Hudson carried through in her makeup. Although the actress stuck to dark tones, the fun nature of the lipstick kept her appearance from becoming too goth and helped to make her one of the best dressed of the night.
