Happy Movember!

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

Happy MovemberIt is that time of year again when moustaches rule – the month of Movember. Movember was created by the Movember Foundation which encourages men to grow moustaches in an effort to bring awareness to men’s health as well as to fund research or treatment for prostate and testicular cancer. The organization’s vision is to deliver the message in a fun, unique manner.

Movember Rules

Movember has official rules which can be found on the foundation’s website. The first rule is that participants must sign up on the site to become a “Mo Bro” and begin the first of November with a clean-shaven face. For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache and only a moustache. They may not grow beards, goatees or use fake moustaches. As people ask why they are growing such a rich, luscious moustache, each Mo Bro is supposed to begin a conversation on men’s health. In addition, Mo Bro’s are asked to raise money in some manner to help prevent or develop cures for prostate and testicular cancer. Lastly, each Mo Bro must behave as a true gentleman.

Fund Raising Events

There are many options for fund raising during Movember. One suggestion on the website is to plan a Mo Party. Those who choose to host a Mo Party can register on the site and receive a free Mo Party pack in order to raise funds and encourage others to participate in Movember. Some areas have created running of the Mo’s, events that bring Mo Bros and Mo Sistas together. Many other running events are planned throughout the country to promote Movember as well. Shave the Date is the official start to Movember, where participants shave their faces in order to begin growing their Movember ‘stache. Although November 1 is the official Shave the Date, events can be held throughout the month for those who don’t mind getting a late start.

Grooming the Stache

Participating in Movember does not mean growing a big lump of hair under your nose that is unruly and unkempt. The moustache should be well-groomed and tidy, although it should draw attention to the man sporting it. The moustache should be shampooed regularly as bits of food can collect in it which no one really wants to have happen. Work in a tiny bit of conditioner as moustache hair is course. A soft, hot towel is perfect for cleansing the skin under the moustache to avoid drying and itching.

Choose the moustache style from the beginning and be sure to invest in the right tools for the job, such as barber scissors, clippers and fine-toothed combs. Beauty Bridge have everything you need to make your moustache part of a very Happy Movember!

Men and their Influence on the Beauty Industry

Men and their Influence on the Beauty IndustryYears ago, the American male skin cleanser might have been the equivalent of a fine grade of sandpaper mixed with a bit of Lava soap. In order to save face, men and boys have been sneaking into their wives’ or mother’s drawers to find what they need when their faces needed moisturizing or to find cream for razor burn. Why? Stigma, or the lack of signature skincare products for men and boys; after all, men and boys do suffer from dry skin and might need a foundation to cover-up complexion problems too, don’t they? Addressing the need, and understanding the desire, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs are launching cosmetic lines for men. They are bringing a solution to the cosmetics counter and online store—to meet the needs of men—their own niche cosmetics and skincare products, from shaving systems to body scrubs, you can find it all.

Boy how, things have changed! Now, if men are interested in taking care of their skin and using herbal shaving creams and after-shave treatments there is a large selection for them. Men, you can get what you need and want for your skin and choose the kind of skincare and fragrance that works for your lifestyle. You don’t need to have your wife, friend or sister shop for you at the Clinique counter; you have your own brands. It is understood—men use and buy skincare, designer shaving products, and even specially formulated foundations that work for male skin. European men have long known about and used skincare products, undaunted by social stigma, they cleanse their skin daily and use moisturizer and are unashamed to buy and talk about skin-health and proper care.

If you are looking for skincare products from Jack Black and other prominent designers, cologne, unique shaving accessories’ and body scrubs, Beauty Bridge has an array of products to suit your taste. If you prefer an unscented natural and herbal moisturizer, Baxter of California features Oil Free Moisturizer, a lightweight, oil free and fragrance-free selection, filled with antioxidants, vitamins E, A, and D, Japanese green tea, aloe and soothing chamomile.

If Sothys is more to your liking, you can find HOMME Soothing After-Shave Balm that brings freshness to the skin, prevents spots and soothes razor burn.

Today, specially formulated cosmetics and skincare products are wrapped with packaging that appeals to the male sensibility. Skincare and cosmetics for women only? Not really.

Is makeup in the future for men?

Is makeup in the future for men?

One trend that appears to be coming into style is makeup for men – yes, guys care about how they look, too! However, it isn’t a style that’s becoming progressive by any means. In fact, the intrigue appears to be growing slowly despite the number of cosmetics being found on the market these days for men, according to Esquire magazine.

Some men who’ve been seen wearing makeup – primarily eyeliner – are rock stars such as Jared Leto and Billy Joe Armstrong. However, this look isn’t for everyone, and not all men are comfortable adding color around their peepers. That being said, some people are expressing an interest in getting rid of common problems such as dry skin after a night out drinking.

It might be years before men start wearing moisturizer and concealer, but until then, there are plenty of cosmetics on the market for women who want to indulge in luxurious beauty regimens! Like men, some women simply want to hide their faces a bit after a rough night out. NBC News claims that this can easily be done by using an eye serum to decrease puffiness and using an illuminating cream to restore your complexion.

Tips to keep a November beard looking great

Tips to keep a November beard looking greatOctober is almost over and for many men across the country, that means one thing – the beginning of Novembeard. For those unfamiliar with the month-long tradition, it is merely a designated period when men agree not to shave for 30 days.

However, since Thanksgiving, a time when many guys travel home to see loved ones, falls toward the end of the month, those participating in the beard-growing challenge may look especially scruffy

Instead of preparing for questions from distant relatives about your appearance – or worse, forgoing Novembeard – men can use a few products to help maintain their facial hair.

While shaving or trimming of any kind is frowned upon, men can keep their faces looking great by using a shampoo, like L’Occitane Cade Shower Gel for Body and Hair, to clean their beards as often as they wash the hair on their heads. Anthony Logistics Every Day Conditioner is formulated to moisturize and protect skin, and soften facial hair.

Additionally, men should use a moisturizer, such as Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20, to make sure the skin underneath the beard is well-conditioned, to reduce the itchiness that scruff can lead to.

A closer shave may help beat the dreaded five o’clock shadow

A closer shave may help beat the dreaded five o'clock shadowWhile some men prefer scruff, others like the look of a clean-shaven face. Unfortunately for those who enjoy a stubble-free appearance, the seemingly inevitable five o’clock shadow has the potential to become his worst enemy.

Instead of looking for ways to slow beard growth, men may want to reconsider their morning routine. According to Men’s Health, many men don’t get a close enough shave, prompting facial hair to seem as if it is growing back too quickly.

“Preparation of the beard is the most important factor,” Dr Douglas Altchek, a professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai school of medicine, told the publication. To ensure the closest shave possible, men should shower first to soften up their skin, apply a preshave oil to create a slick surface and then coat their scruff with a lubricating shave gel.

Dermalogica produces formulas perfect for men who are looking to reduce the chance of a five o’clock shadow. The brand’s Close Shave Oil conditions facial hair while encouraging razor glide, and their Soothing Shave Cream lubricates skin to provide a close shave.

However, men may also want to replace their razor blades more often. “A razor loses 5 percent of its sharpness after every shave, so after five shaves, a quarter of the sharpness is gone,” Dr Altchek told the publication.ADNFCR-3538-ID-19895266-ADNFCR

Men Need Pampering Too!!!

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Who ever said that men don’t like to be pampered? Here’s a thought, when you’re searching for the perfect gift for the perfect man in your life you don’t have to walk into the sporting goods aisle. Men can enjoy things instead of a round of golf or NFL Sunday. Just as us ladies, a man will need to take care and upkeep his personal hygiene. A man is less likely to spend the time or the money buying indulgent beauty products that a woman would. And for this reason, male beauty products make phenomenal gifts.

Here are some great gift ideas for a special man: “A nice shaving kit with a sensitive lotion and aftershave, Indulgent body scrubs and cleansers, A magnificent facial cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, A total travel kit, A massage,A gift certificate to a great salon“.

Just because he may not be caught dead buying it for himself doesn’t mean that he won’t love that pampering! If you live with him and he doesn’t desire pampering gifts, try putting what you want him to smell like in the shower and guarantee he’ll use it, instead of using yours!
