Going for the gold: metallic accents

Gold accents were all the rage at New York Fashion Week, and while some may shy away from the look, it can be just as subtle as it is glamorous. In fact, whether you’re looking to add some unexpected glimmer in the daytime or a dramatic flash at night, these subtle metallic shades have a way of making eyes appear brighter and skin more radiant. Follow these tips to make the trend work for you.

According to Allure Magazine, makeup artist Pat McGrath went for a soft, angelic take at the Dolce & Gabbana show by using gold accents to draw light to the models’ faces. To get this effect, try brushing a white shadow with yellow gold iridescence onto the eyelids and opting for a rosy blush and peachy pink gloss. Nude eyeliner and well-groomed brows completed the look for a pure, fresh-faced complexion.

Meanwhile, McGrath took a minimalist route at Dior. Follow her lead by applying a layer of concealer underneath a sparkly pigment. Dabbing the gold shadow onto the inner corners can really draw attention to the eyes. For extra glow, lightly brush a small amount of the shimmer onto the top of cheekbones.

You could also copy Kim Kardashian’s look by drawing on gold eyeliner. Jada Beauty reported that those with darker skintones should line eyes with a bolder brass, while paler-skinned beauties should go for lighter hues.

If you’re looking to rock a bolder gold like the models at Mara Hoffman, wet the eyeshadow brush before layering rich metallic shadow on to your lids. Dab a sheer shimmer to highlight the browbone and finish by smudging pencil across the upper and lower lash line for a smoky eye.

Fall 2013 makeup trend: The cat's meow

There was a range of makeup trends on Fall 2013 runways, from a raspberry smoky eye, to ever-chic wet, glossy lips. One look that recalls mod style is making a comeback, though: the cat eye.

Harper's Bazaar noted that designers like Kenzo and Anna Sui had models sporting the iconic 1960s look, while Christian Dior and Jason Wu added icy blue and violet to give the cat eye a flash of color and an updated flair.

To get the winged shape yourself, start with the Pixi Eye Bright Kit for a neutral base, which will give you the effect of a good night's sleep with a unique combination of a brightener, cover up and multi-purpose cream highlighter that can hide dark circles and imperfections. Next, define the eye from the inner corner outward with the bold Borghese Eye Accento Pencil in Black Vellura, extending outward and upward slightly at the edge. Gently tracing a line from the outer corner of the bottom lashline inward will create an even more dramatic impact.

After creating definition with the pencil, it's important to later on a liquid formula, like the waterproof Pixi Lash Line Ink in black silk. The flexible precision tip makes it easier to apply a flawless cat-eye with no feathering.

Finally, finish with a sweep of Superiore State-of-the-Art Waterproof Mascara by Borghese. A single coat is enough to lengthen, separate and curl your lashes for the coyest cat effect.

New York Fashion Week already debuted hair and makeup styles that are expected to make headlines this coming autumn, meaning there's plenty of inspiration out there for you to use.

One trend that you might want to take advantage of when the weather cools down is the black and raspberry smoky eye, according to Glamour magazine. This look puts a twist on the traditional smoky eye by incorporating a bit of color, giving the eyes a brighter, more awake appearance.

Other colors to keep in the back of your mind include blue and gold, which were also seen at New York Fashion Week. Blue eye makeup might seem a little too bold for you, but it can be fun and flirty for weekends.

Harper's Bazaar magazine stated that wet, glossy lips are going to be popular this fall, too. Keep this in mind when summer comes to an end and you clean up your makeup bag – don't toss away your gloss just yet!

Once you have the resources, you can begin taking advantage of some of the year’s most popular looks!

In 2013, it seems that bold colors are reigning supreme, according to New England Cable News. Keep this in mind next time you’re choosing a lipstick color or eyeshadow for your lids. 3 makeup trends to avoid this spring and summer

Chances are, you’ve already started stocking up on cosmetics for spring and summer, but trends are always changing. That being said, here are some makeup tips and items worth ditching as the warm weather rolls in, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

1. Hot pink eyeshadow
It might look terrific on runway models, but hot pink eyeshadow has no place on everyday women, even when they need to look their best for a big outing.

2. Bare lashes
Even if you think you aren’t going to run into anyone you know while you’re running errands, don’t buy into this trend – mascara is your friend! Not to mention, it only takes a couple of minutes to apply.

3. Neutral lips
One woman who’s guilty of this is Jennifer Garner – she showed up to the 2013 Oscars with eye-popping jewelry, but lackluster makeup. Consider going bold with a vivid lip color if you want to loo hot this season.

Vogue magazine recommends taking advantage of trends such as brown eye makeup to fall in line with this season’s trends. Doing so in combination with avoiding these faux pas can help you ensure that you always look your best this spring and summer.

How often do you update your makeup routine?

Every season, there are new glossy lipsticks, eyeshadows and eyeliners to try. However, new research shows that American women may not be as interested in revamping their makeup products or routines as much as you might think. A survey conducted by found that the average American female only updates her style every 11 years. Additionally, women tend to stick with the same brand of cosmetics for an average of four years, according to The Huffington Post.

“[M]any American women haven’t changed their makeup look at all in almost 11 years,” Mark Pearson, the chairman and founder of the website, told the news source. “That is a decade of sticking with the same look makeup-wise, which, to be honest, probably isn’t the best way to look one’s best.”

While this statistic is relatively surprising to many, it doesn’t have to apply to you! There are several ways that you can easily update your makeup routine and show that you still have the urge to look trendy. Allure magazine recommends taking advantage of a bold lipstick to give your appearance an edge. Using a darker eyeliner can also enhance your peepers and turn heads.

Want to know the next big shade of eye makeup according to NYFW?

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Turquoise is hot for eyeshadow and eyeliner looks!New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is in full swing, and it’s been showcasing a lot more than the latest clothing fashions – tons of beauty looks have also been gracing the runways. So what’s going to be trendy next? According to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog, when it comes to eyeshadow, turquoise is expected to reign supreme in the upcoming months.

A minty, blue-green turquoise was seen on models at the Rebecca Minkoff and Kate Spade shows. The former featured a pastel turquoise shadow like Too Faced – Single Eye Shadow in Neptune on the inner corners of the eyes, with a peachy shade on the outer corners and a thick line of black eyeliner along the upper lash lines.

The Kate Spade show had models wearing bold turquoise shadow in an exaggerated wing shape along the entire lid, with a white eyeliner like the one in being TRUE – Dual Eye Liner with Sharpener in Yin and Yang along the upper lash line for contrast. It was paired with a glossy pink lip for a girly touch.

If you’re looking for a way to ease yourself into the turquoise trend, try using an eyeliner first. After applying black eyeliner as usual on your upper lash line, follow with a turquoise liner just above the black. This will add a pop of color that’s not too overwhelming.
