Have you tried orange lipstick yet?

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Orange lips are huge these days!By now, you probably know that Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year for 2012. That’s probably why so many gals have been walking the streets with orange lips, manis and eye makeup. While it takes a certain degree of boldness to put on a color like this, it’s definitely a great way to ensure that all the attention’s on you.

Celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Morrison and Busy Philipps have all been embracing the orange pout, according to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog. Paired with subtle eyes and cheeks, it’s a great way to rock the trendiest shade in fashion without going overboard.

When you’re wearing an orangey shade of Youngblood – Lipstick, it’s important to wear lip liner underneath to prevent the color from migrating to the area outside of your lip line – otherwise you might end up looking like a little kid who’s been eating an orange popsicle. Jane Iredale – Lip Pencil has you covered. Just pick a shade that’s close to either the lipstick color or the natural shade of your lips. Then go wild!

Blue eye makeup is huge this season

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Blue is the color of the season! If you’ve been paying any attention to the world of fashion and beauty this season, you’ve probably noticed how often blue shows up. This classic cool shade is having a resurgence of interest, and if you don’t already have the eyeshadows and eyeliners necessary to pull it off, it’s time to stock up!

According to Allure Magazine, the best thing about this hue is that it’s “bright, sheer, and can be layered to increasing levels of richness.” It will go with almost any outfit and can flatter a variety of skin tones. What’s not to love?

Try it along your upper lash line using blue BABOR – Liquid Eyeliner, then use plenty of mascara to finish the look. (You might even opt for blue mascara for a touch of unexpected color!)

If you’re using blue eyeshadow, try Too Faced – Eye Shadow Duo in Skinny Dip. Sweep the lighter shade over your entire lid, then use the darker hue to darken the crease. Make sure the edges are well blended, then use black liner on your inner rims and finish with mascara. Once you see how versatile blue is, you’ll get a clearer sense of why everyone’s wearing it!

Peach eyes and wine lips: an unexpectedly chic combination

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Jessica Lowndes recently rocked a pretty makeup color scheme worth trying! If you’ve been on the hunt for new ways to pair your makeup shades, the color scheme that Jessica Lowndes wore to the premiere of The Devil’s Carnival in Los Angeles might be worth checking out.

According to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog, the actress used a metallic peach color on her lids and a wine-colored matte lipstick that was not your average pairing. However, she made it work by using black liquid eyeliner, plenty of mascara and a hint of shimmer on the inner corners of her eyes.

You can easily get the look yourself by checking out the gorgeous colors of BABOR – Eye Shadow. The Clay or Fever shades will definitely capture that peachy essence, and they’ll look especially great on blue or green eyes. Use a wash all over your lids (a bit past the creases) and underneath your lash line. Then use a highlighter to dot the inner corners.

As for your lips, try out some of the bold colors from Lipstick Queen. For a matte finish, simply dust on a bit of translucent face powder on top, which will also help to set the color.

Orange: unexpectedly chic for eyes, cheeks and lips

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Orange is totally hot when it comes to makeup colors!By now, you probably know that Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year, which means that it’s been popping up everywhere, from gardens to runways to makeup palettes. While you might think that bright orange is a tough shade to pull off, it’s actually a lot more doable than you think. To prove it, Rihanna recently stepped out wearing orange eyeshadow and blush at the Battleship premiere in Tokyo.

According to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog, the key to wearing orange eyeshadow is to choose a peachy shade that’s on the softer side. Something like Jane Iredale – PurePressed Eye Shadow in Glimmer Gold should do the trick. Just do a wash of color on each lid, then use a darker shade of orange for the crease.

To add to the look, an apricot blush will offset the eyeshadow and make you look positively radiant. Try BORGHESE – Blush Milano in Frascati for a natural-looking flush. Be sure to apply it to the apples of your cheeks, then blend out toward your temples.

As for your lips, a gold-flecked lipgloss will match the orange shadow and blush without making your face look monochromatic. Look for tiny bits of shimmer – not sparkles – to shine without blinding anyone.

Bring in spring with bold lips

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Bold lips are more unexpected than pastels in spring! When you envision the shades of spring, you’re probably thinking of pastels like lilac, jade green and baby pink. However, while using these hues in your makeup routine can be refreshing, Marie Claire Magazine suggests going a bit bolder this season for an unexpected twist on spring fashion.

“It’s an unexpected – and fun – time of year to try a darker lip color,” Gina Brooke, artistic director for Shu Uemura, told the news source. Playing around with lip color is the easiest way to amp up the pigment on your lips.

Before you start, it’s best to prep your lips with a scrub, then use a treatment like June Jacobs – Lip Renewal to make them soft. Your lipstick will last longer on a smooth surface, reports the news source.

Apply a lip liner like Colorescience – Lip Pencils in a nude shade or one that matches the color you’re using. This will prevent any bleeding and enhance the shape of your lips. Afterward, slick on your bold color and prepare to turn heads!

Purple lip gloss: your new go-to lip look

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Need a new lip gloss color? Purple could be the answer! It’s tough to find a shade of lip gloss or lipstick that is appropriate for all occasions. Pink and peach work well, but they’re often too subtle to make much of an impact, which defeats the purpose of wearing makeup! That’s why your new go-to shade should be purple, according to Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog.

Purple gloss is exactly what you need if you’re looking for a color that’s noticeable but still okay to wear at all times. It’s like your regular lip color, only with a hint of added hue that suggests a certain amount of polish. Whether you go grape or lilac, purple gloss is a must-have for your purse.

Try out TRUE Cosmetics – Satin Lip Shine in Audacious or Provocative. Both are gorgeous shades of purple that won’t do you wrong. If you’re more into sheer lipstick rather than gloss, GloMinerals – gloSheer Lip Stick in Fiji could be your perfect match.

The best part about sheer purple lips is that they go with anything – so don’t be afraid to go a little wild with your eye makeup.
