Strike a balance between classy and fun with glitter nails

Glittery fingernails are all the rage, but you may find you're not totally comfortable rocking this style in a corporate environment. Don't worry – there are a few ways you can add some sparkle to your tips while keeping them appropriate for everything from summer weddings to office functions.

An easy way to make glitter nails suit a business setting or elegant occasion is to use metallic colors, as opposed to neons or jewel tones. Silver and gold sparkles can work with a variety of outfits and are subdued enough to still look professional in the office. You can even choose glitter nail polish that has flecks of varying sizes – larger chunks of glitter will be bolder, while smaller sparkles will give you a more subtle effect.

If metallic shades are still too much for you, consider testing out the trend with what's known as a "party nail." While most of your fingers may be adorned with your typical shade, one nail is singled out with a little bit of extra bling. Adding glitter nail polish to just a single nail allows you to participate in this hot style while still keeping a clean and sophisticated look.

Although dressing up your nails with a few sparkles is fun, taking off glittery polish isn't always as great. With the help of a few simple tips, however, you'll be able to use nail primers and removers easily to change the color to match your mood and style. For instance, try using a piece of crafting felt soaked in nail polish remover to remove the polish – its fibers will swiftly swipe away stubborn flecks of glitter.

Get festive with Fourth of July makeup

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and that means many revelers around the U.S. are putting together their best red, white and blue outfits to wear to celebrations. Why stop at your clothes? Hair and makeup need just as much attention during this summer holiday.

You already know you've got to protect colored hair from the sun, but you should also be on the lookout for ways to show off some makeup tricks when you're attending a family barbecue or enjoying a day off at the beach.

Many party goers want to look natural for their Independence Day celebrations. You may want to gravitate toward nude makeup for a subdued look, but you can add a dash of fun with bright red lipstick or nail polish in a patriotic color.

If you're planning on jumping in the water during your party, be sure to prep your skin with body scrubs and exfoliates. These treatments will have your skin feeling clean and refreshed, not to mention primed for tanning time under the sun. Of course, you should always be wearing sunscreen to protect yourself from harmful rays and painful sunburns. Even if this lessens the tan you end the day with, you can always turn to tinted moisturizers to give you a healthy glow.

Floral hues can brighten up any makeup collection

Now that spring is in full swing, you might want to look outside for some makeup inspiration. Whether you love roses or you can’t get enough of violets, flowers and other plants found in the garden are inspiring cosmetic choices across the world of fashion, according to Elle magazine.

One color you may want to try to incorporate more into your makeup bag is blue. While it might seem a little too ’80s to wear blue eyeshadow, this hue is becoming more popular each day thanks to shows such as “Mad Men.” Don’t rule out blue when you’re shopping for new cosmetics for the summer!

A warmer color you may want to try this spring is coral. Whether you go with a bold shade or a light, peachy one, coral can help you enhance everything from your eyes to your cheekbones. For the full effect, try out coral nail polish!

Want to be a little more daring? Glamour magazine claims that metallics are still in style. Consider sweeping some silver eyeshadow over your lids or wearing gold eyeliner on the inner rims of your peepers. You’ll look ready to welcome summer!

Nail art reigns supreme as 2013 rolls on

You might already have plenty of BABOR cosmetics and True makeup to keep your skin looking beautiful, but what about your nails? Just because you don’t spend most of your days looking down at your fingers doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve some TLC! In fact, nail art is becoming incredibly popular as 2013 rolls on.

One trend that’s already been seen on runways this year is shiny manicures, according to Glamour magazine. This means opting for a simple nail polish to show off your tips in addition to giving it some pizzazz with a flashy top coat. If you don’t want to go crazy with your nails, this might be just the style for you.

Other notable trends that are popping up include rhinestones and detailed graphics, according to the Lawrence Journal-World. Everyone from teens to soccer moms are asking for these types of manicures to transform their nails into accessories.

If you want to go glam with your nails this season, just remember to take care of your nails along the way. Give them a break from nail polish and let them breathe once in a while. Treat your cuticles with moisturizer to keep them in tip-top shape.

Making your nails look fabulous this season

You might have the perfect spring makeup to commemorate the changing seasons, but what about your nails? As trends in cosmetics change, so do nail styles! One that’s becoming popular is embellished nails, according to Grazia Daily magazine. Gone are the days when nail art reigned supreme – today’s fingers are all meant to be shocking and edgy.

If you don’t want to be left behind, there are a few ways you can take advantage of the trend. Marie Claire magazine recommends using unique decorative accents such as foil – yes, foil – to jazz up your nails. These can easily be applied by a professional to give you a glamorous manicure for spring 2013.

Not into the idea of utilizing unusual materials? Style Bistro claims that more celebrities are opting for original art on their nails to make a memorable impression. This means more than just a small, cutesy flower on your pinky nail. These days, it’s all about creating masterpieces on each nail to wow the crowd.

If you want to keep it simple and avoid drawing too much attention, you can always opt for a nude nail polish for your fingers, which is still a hot trend this season.

3 easy ways to fix chipped nail polish

We've all had it happen before – after receiving a magnificent manicure and paint job on your nails, an unsightly chip rears its ugly head. This can quickly put a damper on your day, but it doesn't have to be the end of your pretty nails! There are a few steps you can take to repair the chip and keep it from happening again in the future.

1. Bust out the nail polish
Whether you have the nail polish originally used or one in a similar color, now is the time to whip it out. Delicately add a drop of it to your chip, then re-apply a second coat to make this area level with the rest of the polish on your nail.

2. Grab a top coat
Once the spot has dried, apply a drop of clear top coat to the chipped area to keep it from returning. If you're extra concerned, go ahead and add a second coat for reassurance.

3. Exercise caution
If your nails aren't standing up to the test of time, Daily Glow recommends avoiding activities that can make the situation worse. Don't open cans or use zippers without caution!

Do you know how to prevent split nails?

Do you know how to prevent split nails?

Depending on the health of your nails, you may experience split nails more often than not. If you constantly wear fake ones or you simply always have polish on them, you may be preventing your nails from gaining strength. If this is a frequent problem for you, there are a couple of ways that you can instantly repair the damage and keep it from happening again in the future.

First, remove any nail polish you're wearing prior to treating the split nail. Then, clip your nail as close to the base as possible to remove the piece that has broken. This may eliminate the length you've worked hard to grow, but it's necessary to effectively treat the issue.

Beautylish recommends applying a clear top coat onto the crack if you want to prevent it from becoming worse. However, simply applying a bandage on top of it can also keep it from being affected by other elements.

To prevent this issue from happening later down the line, the Mayo Clinic stresses the importance of good nail hygiene. This means using a moisturizer on your cuticles and the other skin around your nails daily. You should also make it a point to avoid using harsh chemicals on your nails frequently, such as glue and acetone.
