Secret tips for removing your eye makeup smoothly
As more people look to refine their beauty routines by eliminating toxins from their cosmetics and skincare items, organic products are growing in demand. To cater to this desire from consumers, Russell Organics offers numerous face, body and hair care lines with no parabens, no fragrance and no colorants.

Developed by beauty product pioneer, Richard Russell, Russell Organics has been using the purest, most effective natural ingredients to create products for men and women alike. Consumers will find no sodium lauryl sulfate, no urea and no phenoxyethanol in these items.

The business does not use packaging that consumes large amounts of natural resources. Small boxes are used for transport, and small glass and plastic easy-to-recycle containers are used for packaging.

In addition, Russell Organics refuses to test its products on animals or incorporate their products into their items, which can give vegans peace of mind.

Avoid dairy to help fight acne

Friday, January 27th, 2012

If you're experiencing breakouts, you might want to cut down on your dairy intake! When it comes to fighting acne, your best bet is to go directly to the source. For many women, that means following up a skincare regimen with the right foods that can help your skin repair itself from the inside out.

The Beauty Department got a few tidbits of advice from Dr. Jessica Wu, a Los Angeles dermatologist who wrote the book Feed Your Face. Among her helpful hints was the fact that dairy can do a lot of harm to your skin if you’re already breaking out. The hormones associated with many varieties of dairy can be transferred into your body and stimulate your own hormones, making your skin more oily with more clogged pores.

Try using almond or soy milk as a substitute for milk, and choose organic, nonfat or skim dairy products for everything else, which don’t contain as many hormones.

Also, be sure to use an acne cleanser twice a day, like Exuviance – Moisturizing Antibacterial Facial Cleanser. Then, follow it up with Exuviance – Blemish Treatment Gel, which can help your skin restore its former glory.

Adding oil to your makeup routine

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Beauty products with oil are all the rage these days! You may think that oil is the last thing you want to put on your face and body, but in fact, many people have started embracing the oil trend throughout the beauty world.

According to Cosmopolitan magazine, “Some oils actually help treat and prevent acne. Others, intended for makeup removal and/or skin rejuvenation, won’t make you break out.” Oil cleansers and moisturizers are perfect for harsh winter weather that tends to strip the dewiness right out of your skin.

If the skin around your eyes could use a little TLC this winter, consider using Bioelements – Multi-Task Eye Oil. This lubricating formula will nourish the sensitive skin around your eyes and give it plenty of antioxidants to combat the effects of aging.

Kneipp – NatuRenew Organic Body Oil is a great choice for your body during the winter, as it works to improve your skin’s appearance and elasticity. Everyday skin conditions like stretch marks and scars can be improved with the use of oils like these, as well as signs of aging and extra dry patches of skin.

Potentially harmful ingredients to avoid in your beauty products

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Not every ingredient is safe for your health!Believe it or not, many of your most cherished makeup and skincare products may be causing damage to your health. The cosmetics industry is largely self-regulated and can market products without having to approve ingredients with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The ingredients are often tested in terms of short-term effects, meaning companies look for immediate adverse reactions rather than damaging long-term conditions. Even if your skin isn’t showing any signs of distress, some harmful ingredients may cause cancer or alter your hormonal balance.

According to the FDA, the two most important laws about cosmetics marketed in the U.S. are the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA).

The FD&C Act prohibits the marketing of “adulterated and misbranded” cosmetics. A cosmetic is considered adulterated if:
• It contains a poisonous or dangerous substance which makes it harmful to users when used following directions.
• It contains any “filthy, putrid or decomposed” substance.
• It has been prepared or packaged under unsanitary conditions and is therefore contaminated.
• The container is made from a poisonous or dangerous material.
• It contains an unsafe color additive (except for hair dyes, which have more specific conditions).

Misbranded products are improperly labeled or deceptively packaged. If the labeling is wrong or misleading, doesn’t include required information or doesn’t prominently display information, it is subject to regulatory action. This is supposed to make consumers able to make informed decisions about which products they are using, but unfortunately many people fail to read the ingredients on products before they buy them.

In order to make sure you’re not exposing yourself to potentially hazardous ingredients in your makeup and skin care products, avoid using products which list one or more of the following ingredients on the label, according to

• Alcohol, Isopropyl. This is a drying and irritating ingredient that takes moisture away from your skin and degenerates your skin’s natural immune barrier, making you more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses. It may also promote premature skin aging. It’s made from a petroleum derivative and is found in skin and hair products, fragrance, and antibacterial products. Use a more natural cleanser, like Archipelago Botanicals – Morning Mint Soap, instead.

• DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) & TEA (triethanolamine). These ingredients are restricted in Europe because of their known carcinogenic effects, but the U.S. has yet to regulate them. The chemicals may disprupt your hormones and can form cancer-causing nitrates in your body.

• Fragrance (Parfum). If a label includes synthetic fragrance, it could represent thousands of separate ingredients used to scent products, many of which are considered toxic or carcinogenic. Fragrance chemicals and ingredients have been associated with respiratory issues, reproductive issues, skin discoloration and even changes in the central nervous system. It’s better to scent products yourself with essential oils, or buy organic products like Janson Beckett – Certified Organic Cleansing Milk.

• Mineral Oil, Petrolatum. This ingredient is a petroleum by-product that coats skin like a plastic, which clogs pores and prevents skin from eliminating toxins. This can cause acne and slow skin development – resulting in premature aging. It dissolves your skin’s natural oil and causes dry skin.

• Parabens. These ingredients often start with prefixes like propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl and methyl. They are preservatives which mimic estrogen and can disrupt your hormone systems. Many products these days are labeled paraben-free, such as PRIORI – CoffeeBerry Perfecting Minerals Foundation SPF 25 – Perfecting Foundation 4, which is 100 percent natural.

Next time you’re looking to buy beauty products, be sure to search for the ingredients and avoid those which could negatively affect your health!

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Choosing eye creams that are good for you tooNormally when we think of eye creams and all things that are intended to do our skin some good, we never consider that sometimes, the products we choose may result in all kinds of unwanted side effects. However, those with sensitive eyes can take simple steps to avoid using formulas that might rub them the wrong way.

LA Lasik surgeon Dr. Brian Boxer-Wachler spoke with the Huffington Post and reminded ladies that safflower oil is excellent for hydration while caffeine can help decrease redness and UV damage to eyes. Organic soybean oil and grapefruit seed extract are also highly beneficial while alpha lipoic acid and vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate) are excellent for anti-aging properties.

Meanwhile, eye creams should be carefully selected to avoid fragrances and special non-irritating formulas, the news source reports.

Cellex-C Eye Counter Cream is specially designed for the delicate skin around the eye area and contains active ingredients to reduce the visible signs of aging. The formula is easy on sensitive skin and doesn’t generate many side effects as some other treatments might.
