Now that spring is in full swing, more people are trying to soak up the sun, and you might be one of them! However, it’s no secret that too much sun can do damage to your skin. That being said, here are some tips you can incorporate into your skincare routine this spring to protect yourself against ultraviolet rays. Adopting these habits now can make it easier to maintain your skin health when the sun is stronger in the summer.

1. Go with SPF 15 or higher
SPF indicates how much protection you receive from the product you’re using. The Huffington Post claims that you should always look for makeup or moisturizers with at least SPF 15.

2. Practice healthy skincare
Ultraviolet rays are thought to cause wrinkles and premature aging. In addition to using SPF lotion, you can reduce the risk of aging signs by using gentle soap, limiting time spent in hot water and moisturizing frequently.

3. Protect yourself
Using SPF moisturizer and makeup can keep ultraviolet rays from negatively impacting exposed areas of your skin. However, the Mayo Clinic claims that it’s still a good idea to wear protective clothing for additional safety.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
