When the temperatures rise and you get ready to hit the beach, you might be uncomfortable in your own skin as soon as you look in the mirror. As a result of the warm weather, you may have developed acne on certain areas of your body, making you dread the thought of putting on a swimsuit. However, there are a few ways you can control your summer acne and get back to enjoying the seashore.

1. Use a light sunscreen
Elle magazine recommended using a light sunscreen that won’t clog your pores to stay protected from the sun and avoid worsening your acne.

2. Exfoliate
Using an exfoliant containing alpha or beta hydroxy acids can help you get your acne under control and reduce your breakouts. Don’t focus on scrubbing your body too hard – this can cause damage to already-sensitive skin that needs TLC!

3. Try a product with salicylic acid
As Cosmopolitan magazine reported, products including salicylic acid seem to be effective on acne that’s particularly difficult to eliminate. To tackle your entire problem this summer, be sure to invest in an item that can treat both body and facial acne.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
