It’s a given that face-framing tendrils can soften the look of any updo, but if you recall from your prom days, those harsh hair-sprayed curls are definitely not what you want to go for. Glamour magazine’s beauty blog raved about Kirsten Dunst’s look at the Melancholia premiere, which featured a few soft, wavy tendrils that accomplished exactly what they were meant to without looking forced.

Glamour points out that these strands worked because they weren’t super thick, weren’t too long and hadn’t been hair-sprayed. They looked pretty natural – like the kind of tendrils that would happen if you were to wear a loose style all day long.

Next time you want to rock a ponytail or a sophisticated updo, soften it up with a few face-framing tendrils. Use Leonor Greyl – Condition Naturelle (Protects, untangles & adds volumn while blowdrying) on damp hair, then blow dry. Pull your hair back and pin it whichever way you want, then gently pull out a few pieces in front. If you want them a bit wavy, use a curling iron to create soft curls, then mist with Leonor Greyl – Laque Souple Gentle Hold Hair Spray (4 oz.), which will hold them without the crunchy, stiff effect.
