Caring For Your Hair In The Summertime
Taking care of your tresses is always a full-time job, but they’re subject to a lot of extra abuse in the summertime. If your locks have been bombarded by sunshine, chlorine, humidity, sweat and tons of ponytails, they might not be looking their best. Follow these summer hair care tips to keep your mane in tip-top shape from May to September.
Lots of people love to spend their summers by the pool, but most pools are treated with chlorine – a harsh chemical that can dry or even discolor your locks. (Blondes sometimes finish out a summer with green steaks in their hair from too much pool time!) Before you hop in a chlorinated pool, wet your hair with non-chlorinated water in the shower or bathroom sink. That way, your porous strands won’t be able to absorb as much chlorine – so you can keep them from getting dried out, crunchy or brittle.
If your hair is colored, summertime almost always leads to a gradual lightening of your locks – which can mean a bright orange mane if you’re not careful! Make sure you protect your hair with a color-shielding shampoo and conditioner, and sport a stylish hat when you’re out at the beach to keep the sunlight off your tresses.
Following these tips will make sure you transition into fall with your shiny strands still looking flawless.
