Eyelash Extensions 101

Several women have been blessed with long and luxurious lashes ever since their first baby picture, others are not so lucky. Some eyelashes have simply failed in the luxurious department. It only takes a quick trip down the makeup aisle to figure out just how many products are available for eyelash extension. But here is the “101,” skip the cheap fake eyelashes and go for extensions that look like the real thing.

How do Eyelash Extensions Work?
Eyelash extensions use a medical adhesive to bond each lash to an individual’s original lashes. The process is done one lash at a time in order to create a natural look. Individuals can customize their lashes by choosing length, curling style, color and texture. The process is not a permanent treatment. Eyelash extensions usually last up to six weeks, depending on how well they are cared for.

Preparation
Shower Beforehand: In order to avoid having the extensions come into contact with water or steam for at least 48 hours, shower before the treatment.

Remove Makeup: Any makeup, such as mascara or foundation, should be removed prior to the appointment. Individuals should also steer clear of lotion, sunscreen or oil, as they can interfere with the adhesive glue.

Keep Lashes Natural: Lashes should be 100 percent natural when receiving extensions. Along with removing mascara, steer clear of any eyelash curling the day of the appointment.

Aftercare
Avoid Condensation: For at least 48 hours, eyelash extensions should be kept away from water or any other form of condensation. Individuals should avoid showering or working out. Also, if someone lives in a humid area, they should stay indoors during the 48 hour period as much as possible.Eyelash Extensions 101

Do Not Pull: Constantly touching the extensions can easily damage natural lashes. Try to avoid touching, pulling, twisting or curling the lashes. If an individual wants to remove their extensions, they should always seek professional care.

Avoid Moisture-Based Products: Keep shampoos, conditioners, lotions and oils away from the extensions. Any of those products can loosen the effect of the adhesive, making the extensions last for a lesser amount of time.

Remember the Natural Lashes: Do not forget that the natural lashes are still there. Protect them with an eyelash conditioner or growth serum.

Women who were not blessed with the lashes of luxury do not have to settle for second best. Luxury is waiting for those who work for it and even failed lashes can earn a second chance.
