Happy Movember!

It is that time of year again when moustaches rule – the month of Movember. Movember was created by the Movember Foundation which encourages men to grow moustaches in an effort to bring awareness to men’s health as well as to fund research or treatment for prostate and testicular cancer. The organization’s vision is to deliver the message in a fun, unique manner.

Movember Rules

Movember has official rules which can be found on the foundation’s website. The first rule is that participants must sign up on the site to become a “Mo Bro” and begin the first of November with a clean-shaven face. For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache and only a moustache. They may not grow beards, goatees or use fake moustaches. As people ask why they are growing such a rich, luscious moustache, each Mo Bro is supposed to begin a conversation on men’s health. In addition, Mo Bro’s are asked to raise money in some manner to help prevent or develop cures for prostate and testicular cancer. Lastly, each Mo Bro must behave as a true gentleman.

Fund Raising Events

There are many options for fund raising during Movember. One suggestion on the website is to plan a Mo Party. Those who choose to host a Mo Party can register on the site and receive a free Mo Party pack in order to raise funds and encourage others to participate in Movember. Some areas have created running of the Mo’s, events that bring Mo Bros and Mo Sistas together. Many other running events are planned throughout the country to promote Movember as well. Shave the Date is the official start to Movember, where participants shave their faces in order to begin growing their Movember ‘stache. Although November 1 is the official Shave the Date, events can be held throughout the month for those who don’t mind getting a late start.

Grooming the Stache

Participating in Movember does not mean growing a big lump of hair under your nose that is unruly and unkempt. The moustache should be well-groomed and tidy, although it should draw attention to the man sporting it. The moustache should be shampooed regularly as bits of food can collect in it which no one really wants to have happen. Work in a tiny bit of conditioner as moustache hair is course. A soft, hot towel is perfect for cleansing the skin under the moustache to avoid drying and itching.

Choose the moustache style from the beginning and be sure to invest in the right tools for the job, such as barber scissors, clippers and fine-toothed combs. Beauty Bridge have everything you need to make your moustache part of a very Happy Movember!
