All eyes were on Kate Hudson as the star walked the red carpet at the first annual Novak Djokovic Gala in London July 8. The actress reveled in the spotlight thanks to her flawless makeup, which combined dark eye makeup with a lighter, more playful shade of lip color.

Hudson let her green eyes stand out with the help of black eyeliner and dark eyeshadow. She outlined her entire eye with the bold liner, complementing it with slightly lighter, purple-gray shadow framing her eyes. This unique smokey eye was perfectly done and certainly had the actress looking mysterious.

Many celebrities have rocked bright lips recently, and Hudson must have taken note of this trend. Her fuchsia lipstick was a great balance with her dark eyes, and it worked without becoming too bright and clashing with the rest of her look.

The dramatic makeup meshed well with her edgy gray dress. Thanks to a studded clutch and asymmetrical hemline, there was a distinct punk feel to the ensemble, which Hudson carried through in her makeup. Although the actress stuck to dark tones, the fun nature of the lipstick kept her appearance from becoming too goth and helped to make her one of the best dressed of the night.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
