Ideally, you’d love to take all of your favorite beauty products with you when you’re on a vacation, but it simply isn’t practical. However, there are certain items that are crucial for maintaining a flawless complexion when you’re traveling, whether it’s a business trip to Manhattan or a luxury getaway to Mexico.

Next time you’re packing for a trip, be sure include these essentials in your bag and you’ll look stunning from the second you depart until your inevitable return:

All eyes on you
A long flight can leave your peepers looking bleary. Nude eyeliner is a must for looking alert. Look for a pencil that’s the same hue as your natural skin tone but just one shade lighter, then carefully apply it along both lash lines and your eyes will look instantly brighter.

Air travel can also cause bags in the undereye area. Fight dryness and puffiness with a calming eye cream and follow with a moisturizing concealer over any dark circles of shadows. In Conde Nast Traveler, Dr. Marina Peredo, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, recommended looking for a cream that includes amino acids to fuel collagen production and retinol to smooth out fine lines. Products that contain vitamins A, C and E or other antioxidants can protect the skin against damage from UV rays and other environmental stressors, which is especially crucial in hotter climates.

Finally, a sweep or two of volumizing mascara is crucial for perking up your peepers. Lanoux advised only applying it to the top lashes, as darkening the bottom ones can actually make you look more tired. Focus the wand on the lashes at the outer corners to get an especially eye-catching effect.

Solid is the solution
Even if liquid is your preferred formula for foundation, go for solid options on a getaway. Beauty and travel expert Nadine Jolie explained to ABC News that pressed powder is less likely to get messy when it’s jostled around in a suitcase – plus it passes TSA restrictions. The same goes for all your other products, so consider solid eyeshadow, blush and bronzer over loose powders. You can even find solid moisturizers, which are convenient because you can carry them on for a post-flight boost of hydration.

Multitasking makeup
The last thing you want to do is weigh down your bag with too many products. Focus on packing items that have multiple uses, which can save space in your suitcase and are more convenient to toss in your purse for quick touch-ups when you’re jetting around. For example, look for a stain that works as both a lip tint and blush. You might also consider a BB cream with SPF: It’s a triple threat with coverage, hydration and sun protection all in one. Plus, it’s lightweight, making it ideal for sweltering conditions. A hydrating multipurpose salve can act as a lip balm, and can also be rubbed onto elbows, cuticles or other especially dry areas. You can even mix a little with a powder eyeshadow to create a richer, higher intensity look for nighttime.

Don’t be shy with shimmer
A little dazzle can go a long way when it comes to your makeup – particularly when it’s applied in the right places. Try dabbing a shimmery highlighter onto your browbone and at the inner corners of your eyes. The light reflecting particles will illuminate those areas for an instant pick-me-up when you arrive at your destination.

A blush/bronzer duo is another must for any trip. Travel can make anyone’s complexion look a little sallow, so dust the darker hue where the sun naturally hits your face – typically along the bridge of the nose, forehead and along the cheekbones. Then apply the rosier shade to the apples of your cheeks for a faint pop of color. Voilá: You have an instant glow, even if you didn’t spend all day basking on a beach somewhere.
