Nicole Kidman made headlines earlier this week, but the stories had nothing to do with a new movie. Instead, people were buzzing about the actress’ makeup at the 2010 Hollywood Foreign Press Association Installation Luncheon at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, particularly her decision to don a rosy pink lipstick, putting to rest the old adage that redheads shouldn’t wear pink.

According to makeup artist Nicole Bryl, the rose-colored formula worked on Kidman because it paired well with her porcelain skin. “This lipstick shade works best for a pale complexion, as the rosy lip shade pops against an ivory skin tone,” Bryl told StyleList.com. “Partnering the shade with a cherry-kissed cheek completes the classic romantic look.”

But ladies with a darker complexion can rock a pink lip as well. “Olive and darker skins should use more of a burgundy cheek and lip shade, with a bit more gold on the eyes to give the illusion of brightening the face and warming up the heaviness of the burgundy tone,” Bryl added.
