There’s a hot new hair trend in Hollywood, and the look may be a bit surprising. In a world long controlled by the idea that roots are literally the root of all evil, starlets are stepping out on the red carpet with ombre locks.

“It’s basically for brunettes who have always highlighted their hair but now want to embrace their darker, natural hair color. It’s dark at the roots, and lighter at the ends, with a lot of lighter pieces around the face. It’s a very grown out, carefree, low maintenance look,” hair stylist Tracey Cunningham told Allure magazine.

And while Cunningham swears that this trend looks great on everybody, she admits that hair needs to be long (shoulder-length at least) and shouldn’t feature too many layers, as the look won’t translate.

And while this look may be easier to maintain than strands that require meticulous coloring, you’ll still want to take measures to protect your hair. L’Occitane Aromachologie Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner can help keep your locks damage-free and prolong the life of your color.
