Manicures and pedicures seem to be an imperative part of girls’ summertime beauty regime – open-toed shoes display toes, and long sleeves and gloves that hide fingernails are nowhere in sight. So, discovering a new trend in nail design can be just as exciting as picking up that new bikini.

According to Glamour.com, stars are getting funky with their lacquer. At last weekend’s Comic-Con, Vanessa Hudgens worked the red carpet wearing robin’s egg blue nail polish on her fingers and a glittery gold color on her toes.

While the color combination is fantastic, it’s nothing new. So what made this look unique? Instead of painting all 10 fingers in the light blue hue, the High School Musical star covered two fingernails (her ring fingers) with the same metallic polish used for her pedicure.

At a different California event, English model Alexa Chung stepped out wearing a bold design on her nails as well. The former MTV personality donned opaque white polish adorned with small red hearts.

While the news source guesses that the hearts may have been a nail overlay, girls with a steady grip can attempt to recreate the look freehand, using Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquers in Amazing Grace (a pure white) and My Funny Valentine (a classic red).
