Colorful smoky eyes are in this fall, but if you’re not wearing a bright outfit and a pop of color wouldn’t match your look, take a cue from Ashlee Simpson, who showed up at the BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party with pretty gray eyeshadow. Glamour magazine raved about how the effect was simple, gorgeous and practically effortless to pull off. Here’s how to get the look on your own.

First, start out with your regular makeup routine. Make sure to apply primer on your eyelids so the color sticks and doesn’t wear off over time. Too Faced – Shadow Insurance will do the trick. Keep your blush and lips relatively understated so your eyes will be the main focus of your face.

Use a black eyeliner pencil to line your inner bottom rims and draw a thick line just above your upper lash line. For more drama, you may want to trace over it with a liquid liner like BABOR – Liquid Eyeliner. Sweep a gray shadow onto your lids and concentrate on the creases so its a bit darker there, then add a bit to your lower lash line. Add a shimmery gray shadow to the inner corners of your eyes to make them look brighter.

Top it off with a couple of coats of a lengthening or volumizing mascara for maximum impact and you’ll be ready to flaunt the look!
