Pretty soon you’ll be trading sundresses for sweater dresses and strappy sandals for sturdy riding boots, and you’ll also be swapping out the colors in your makeup bag. As the leaves change, your coral lipsticks and aqua smoky eyes of summer just won’t feel right – but what shades are more seasonally appropriate? Follow this guide and you’ll be right on trend for autumn.

Eyes
Want an alternative to black and brown eyeliner? Beauty High says navy blue is big for fall, and the hue flatters any eye color. Plus, a liquid liner in this color looks polished during the day but can easily be transformed into a smoldering smoky eye at night. Beauty High also noted that grey eyeshadow is a top trend, with runway models for both Derek Lam and Alexander Wang sporting the look. Try contrasting the neutral shadow on your lids with a more vibrant lipcolor for a truly striking effect.

If you’re looking for more impact, Glamour magazine reported that Altuzarra’s models were rocking a black smoky eye with raspberry accents. Another interesting color combo came from the Thakoon runway: Makeup artist Diane Kendal brushed gold glitter on top of a deep blue base for lids that looked like a star-studded midnight sky.

Lips
Who knew wine mouth would be in style? This season, emulate Derek Lam and Louis Vuitton’s models and reach for lip shades in deep Bordeaux and burgundy. To ease into these dramatic shades, Glamour suggested only applying color to the bottom of your pucker and pressing lips together for a more natural looking stain. You could also blot lipstick with a tissue after applying to soften the hue.

Pale-skinned gals might be scared off by deep reds, which can sometimes make them look even more fair. Fortunately, Glamour noted that Phillip Lim’s models rocked an alternative shade that’s just as stunning: cinnamon. For a muted effect, try using a lipliner in this hue and then blending it in with a sheer balm.

Regardless of what lip color you choose, makeup artist Sonia Kashuk told Fox News that it’s time to trade your glosses for more matte formulas as the weather goes from balmy to breezy.

Nails
Nail polishes this summer were bold and bright, but designers toned it down on the runway for autumn. According to Kashuk, nature-inspired nude nails were a top trend, especially in a grey tone. The best part about neutral nails is that they don’t take the attention away from your ensemble, meaning you have the freedom to wear pieces in fun colors and prints.
