While Glamour.com recently praised Emma Stone for tinting her brows to match her red color-treated hair (the actress is a natural blonde), we can’t help but applaud another starlet for doing the opposite. At the premiere of Blue Valentine, Michelle Williams stepped out with platinum locks and dark brown brows.

Williams’ dark arches did more than complement her strands, however. The well-manicured brows effectively framed her face and made her green eyes pop. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the blonde beauty wore a few coats of volumizing mascara.

Though tinting your brows to match your hair can create a natural-looking appearance, given Williams’ porcelain complexion, light-colored arches would have washed her out.

Ladies looking to enhance their brows have a multitude of products to choose from, including pencils, powders and gels. If you use a pencil, select one with a spool on the end, like Sothys Eyebrow Enhancing Pencil, as the spiral brush will help pencil lines better resemble real hairs.

You should also make sure that the formula is water-resistant, like blinc Eyebrow Mousse. Trust us, runny brow makeup can look just as bad as smudged mascara – maybe even worse!
