A little color never hurt anybody – especially when it’s on your face. While you may have been scared of implementing bright makeup hues, there are ways to do so without risking a garish finished look. In fact, vibrant shades on your eyelids, lips and cheeks are just as wearable during the day as they are at night. Still hesitant? Just follow these simple rules and you’ll conquer your fear of color in no time.

Working Color Into Your Daily Look

Eyes
Nothing is more alluring than a pop of color around your peepers, but you don’t want to go overboard. When you’re choosing an eyeshadow shade, a great strategy is to choose one that contrasts your eye color. For example, green eyes look striking with violet, while shades of blue make brown eyes stand out. If you do select a brighter hue, be sure to keep the rest of your makeup understated – a neutral lipgloss and subtle cheek color are enough. You’ll also want to tone down the dramatic eye color with just a sweep of black liquid liner, which keeps the look polished.

Lips
A bold lip color is one of the best ways to turn heads. To make sure you’re attracting the right kind of attention, try a hydrating lipstick or a stain with a corresponding gloss, which are long-lasting and resistant to unsightly cracking. If you have pale skin, go with a cherry red that has blue undertones. Warmer medium skin stones look radiant with a rusty, orange-based red, while deep berry hues look striking against a dark complexion.

Face
Whether you’re opting for a daring shade on your eyes or lips, you’ll want to keep your cheek color subtle. For a natural-looking flush, go for a hue that’s no more than two shades deeper than your natural skin tone and focus on applying it to the apples of your cheeks. A neutral, soft rose is universally flattering.
