While you may think that French twists are a little outdated (1990s, anyone?), they’re actually coming back into style, as long as they have volume and plenty of movement going on. It’s a great look to try out for a special event or even for an office-appropriate ‘do, but it can be tricky to pull off. However, with the right products and these easy steps, you can achieve the perfect twist.

Glamour Magazine’s beauty blog recommends using a volumizing product like Leonor Greyl – Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice before blowdrying, then use a large round brush as you’re drying to create even more lift. Curl random sections of your hair with a curling iron, then backcomb sections of hair at the top of your head. Use your fingers to fluff it up a bit.

Create a flattering side part, then gather your hair on one side of your head, securing it there with two large pins placed vertically up the center. Pull the rest of your hair toward the center and create a twist, putting it in place with large, open pins. Use your fingers again to tousle it up a bit and create face-framing tendrils if you’d like, then finish with a styling product.
