There are plenty of Hollywood-inspired Halloween costume ideas that are both eye-catching and easy to create.

However, for many of the most creative costumes, cosmetics are a key component and without the right look, people might not recognize your idea. If you’re planning to draw inspiration from an iconic retro goddess, try one of these ideas for a costume that’s bound to stand out this holiday:

Betty Draper
Getting your hair into a proper ’60s ‘do will be half the battle if you’re channeling any of the sirens on Mad Men. The key to Betty’s look is keeping your makeup looking delicate and demure. Use a pencil in a shade close to your natural hair color to lightly fill in your brows for a bolder look, then apply a layer of a light brown shadow on your eyelids and a coppery hue in the crease. After curling your lashes, apply two coats of lengthening mascara. Dust a light pink blush just on the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush. Finally, opt for a matte rosy lipstick to mimic her perfect pout.

This iconic star requires a serious dose of glamor when it comes to makeup. Dab a cream champagne eyeshadow across your lid and follow with a brown shade in the crease, blending as you go toward the outer corner of the eye. Use a liquid liner across your top lash line to define your eyes, extending slightly at the outer corner for a subtle cat-eye effect. Don’t skimp on mascara – feel free to apply three coats of a curling formula to get them looking va-va-voom. Swirl a large blush brush into a subtle pink pigment and dust it along the contouring of your cheekbones. Get her flawless pout by lining your lips with a rich red pencil and layering on lipstick in the same hue. Considering the major motion picture adaptation, this is definitely the year to dress up as the ethereal 1920s character from “The Great Gatsby.”  Luckily, it doesn’t take a ton of makeup either. Then brush a taupe eyeshadow on your lid and use a small brush to lightly dust it along your lower lash line, blending as you go for a soft effect. One layer of volumizing mascara will do the trick, but apply extra pigment to the outer lashes for a come-hither look when you’re batting your eyes.
