Smoky eyes are many women’s go-to beauty picks, but they can feel a bit too heavy on sultry summer nights. When it’s super hot out and you’d rather sit next to an oven than apply a thick coat of dark eyeshadow that may end up creasing in the heat, stick to this simple, lightweight version that’ll still make your eyes smolder.

According to makeup artist Neil Scibelli, who worked with Birchbox on a tutorial, you should start the look with a shimmery base eyeshadow. Blend it over the entire lids and along your lower lash lines for a subtle sparkle.

Now choose a bronze shade of eyeshadow and blend it from the inner corners of your eyes to the centers of your lids. When that’s done, use a darker shade for the outer half of your lids and blend the center so the two colors mix seamlessly. Finally, use an even darker shade to shadow the crease, then smudge it along your lower lash lines.

Top it off with a sweep of liner along your upper lash lines and a coat or two of a mascara. It works perfectly for day or night!
