One trend that has been booming in recent months is glitter, and it isn’t going away any time soon. Elle magazine claims that it’s all about sparkling these days, whether you have a cocktail party to attend or you’re going to another formal event. Specifically, more models are being seen with gemstones on everything from their eyelids to their pouts, replacing lipstick and eyeshadow – for at least the time being.

But is it really practical to go all-out with gems and glitter? What if you’re only getting ready to go to work?

“Less is more,” celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips told the news source, claiming that crystals might be best reserved for runway shows. “Unless it’s for a performance, I wouldn’t have your entire lips crystalled.”

In some instances, you might feel downright uncomfortable wearing any type of makeup that gives you some shine. However, you don’t need to be a teenager to flaunt this look in a stylish manner. If you’re afraid of how glitter might appear on your face, Marie Claire magazine recommends taking it slowly and applying it to your eyelids first. Then, you can move on to shimmery blush and lip gloss.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
