From Rihanna to Hayley Williams, it seemed that red hair was all the rage at MTV’s Video Music Awards. Undoubtedly, these stylish stars will inspire gals across the country to dye their strands a special shade of scarlet. Ladies who want to sport crimson-colored locks should keep in mind that they may need to pick up cosmetics in brand new hues as well.

According to Allure.com, makeup artist Troy Surratt, who has worked with Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Jennifer Lopez, suggests that women with auburn locks balance their hair color with full, red lips. And, because natural redheads tend to have fair skin with cool undertones, Surratt recommends using a blue-toned shade.

“A hint of rosy or peachy cheeks complements red hair,” Surratt told the news source, adding that redheads should avoid bronzers. “That kind of warm, bronzy color doesn’t occur on cool, fair skintones. It looks unnatural. With copper skin and copper hair, you run the risk of looking all one color.”

Finally, women should remember to subtly define lashes and eyebrows, especially if their hair is fair to begin with. If lashes are naturally dark, Surratt recommends a jet-black mascara, but suggests that those with light lashes opt for a black-brown mascara, as pure black can be too harsh.ADNFCR-3538-ID-19940318-ADNFCR
